Dev Update: Profile XP

We've added a basic experience system to the player profile ːsteamhappyː

You get experience points based on completing each dive's objectives and other additional tasks (e.g. finding and scanning creatures, wrecks, etc). As you accumulate points you will progress through a series of ranks that display nicely on your profile.

At the moment the XP system is cosmetic, but as the game expands we'd like to have unlockable perks when you reach certain thresholds, and we'd also like to tie it with steam's online features.

That's all for now! don't forget to visit us on Discord and stay tuned for more updates.

Thank you!

Dev Update: Corer WIP

A push core is a device used to obtain samples from the sediment; it's literally pushed into the ground, and with some luck it retains a sample core when released.

Taking sediment samples with the ROV is standard fare during dives (ROVs push the cores with their arms), and we're working to add this activity to the game. So far we've worked on the models and the coring sequence, as shown above.

This is how the corer looks on the Lander. We've also added a milk crate to hold other tools (milk crates are essential for ocean exploration ːsteamhappyː).

Dev Update: People On Board

The Comatel Explorer now has people on deck!
The first screenshot is from a test, and the second shows how they actually look in game (tiny!)

This is mostly a cosmetic feature; we thought it would be nice to have people wandering around from time to time to give life and a sense of scale to the ship -several people have commented that they only realized how big the ship is when they saw people on it.

Moving forward, we'll be working on gameplay features. We're currently discussing some of them on Discord, so come visit if you'd like to be part of the conversation ːsteamhappyː

subROV Playtest is Over

The subROV Playtest is now over -thank you so much to everyone who participated!

This second Playtest has been fantastic, with very useful feedback coming straight from the game and through Discord. We found *and squashed* a couple insidious bugs, discussed things that were confusing or could be done better, and in general set a very nice mood for future development. Also, the new control system seems to be working fine, and since the objective of the Playtest was precisely to test it, we can say "mission accomplished" :D

Moving forward, we are going to invest the next months creating dives -adding objectives, creatures to find, and things to interact with. We will organize more playtests, but if you want to stay engaged with us, or contribute to the game's development, add the game to your wishlist, follow us on Twitter, and don't forget to join our Discord Server!

Finally, from now on we'll drop update logs periodically here on Steam, mirroring the updates we already do in Twitter and Discord. There won't be a fixed format for these updates and most times they will be a "screenshot of the week" -the point is simply to share out progress here just like we do it in these other platforms.

Thank you!
