Damage Effects & Implementing Crocolisk

We've been hard at work this month and have some exciting updates to share with you all. Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to:

We've been busy implementing new side-quests and fixing up levels to make your adventures even more thrilling. Expect some fresh challenges and smoother gameplay!

New items have been added to the game, and we've also been enhancing the visual effects. Your battles are about to get a lot more visually stunning!

[h3]🐲 Environment Fixes[/h3]
Our team has been diligently fixing up the environment to ensure everything looks and feels just right. Immersion is key, and we want you to feel like you're truly part of this world.

[h3]🐲 Damage Status Effects[/h3]
We've added more VFX to show when you or an enemy is affected by a damage status effect. This should make it easier to see what kind of damage an enemy has and make it feel more impactful when they’re engulfed by an element upon defeat. It’s all about that extra flair!

🐲 Crocolisk Implementation[/h3]
The Crocolisk, one of our Kickstarter stretch goals, now has a full skill tree! While there are still a few animations that need tweaking, it’s fully playable. This beast boasts some unique water-themed skills. For instance, it can make enemies "wet", causing them to take more electric damage but a bit less heat damage. Perfect for those strategic elemental combos!

[h2]Damage types and stacking effects[/h2]
In our discord we had some interesting discussion around damage types and effect stacking lately, and questions about how it works in Coridden came up. For you who are interested, here is a quick overview for how damage over time and damage status effects currently work:

Damage over time stacks. So if you successfully scorch an enemy with 10 dmg for 4 sec and then successfully scorch the same enemy 2 seconds later with 5 dmg for 2 sec, the enemy will take 15 damage for the remaining 2 seconds. However, the debuff from the damage status effect does not stack. For example, a scorched enemy always takes 50% more physical damage no matter how many "stacks" of scorch it has. Concerning area of effect (AOE) damage, if an enemy stands in 2 AOE attacks it will take damage from both. It works in the same way for both singleplayer and multiplayer.
More than inflict damage over time, each status effect also debuff enemies in different ways:

🩸 Bleeding: enemies take additional elemental damage.
βš—οΈ Poison: prevents enemies from healing.
⚑ Shock: causes enemies to deal less damage, it will also decrease their accuracy and cooldown speed of abilities.
πŸ”₯ Scorch: enemies take additional physical damage.

Improvements and getting ready for alpha 🐲

We've been very focused on work lately, time has been flying by so fast we've forgotten to share our progress! πŸ™ˆ

As usual, we keep working on adding content, such as skills and quests, but there has also been quite a lot of work with preparing everything for translation. Quests and translation work is kind of hard to show off πŸ˜… But luckily, we have these two fiery beast skills to share with you! πŸ”₯

Also, we'll make the demo available soon. A lot of you found Coridden when the demo was no longer available and regretted not having a chance to play it. We hear you! We'll keep you updated when it comes to dates, so start gathering your teams!

And since we're talking about trying out games, we'll be taking part in the Indie Showcase during Digital Dragons in Cracow, Poland! 🐲 It's one of the biggest B2B gamedev conferences in Europe and we can't wait to meet other developers to exchange experiences and get inspired 🀩 Digital Dragons starts on May 19th and will last for three whole days.

Custom Classes, Alterants, and More!

[h2]Greetings, Shifters! ✊🐲[/h2]

Following the successful Kickstarter campaign, we've hit the ground running, already implementing the stretch goals that were reached. March has been a particularly productive month for us, with significant progress made in many areas of our project 😊

One of the key areas we've been focusing on is the development of Alterants and the Forge. We added basic support for the stretch goal "Alterant Sequences", and are now updating all Alterants to give them names and more set stats to make it easier to recognize them. The Forge has also seen some improvements. Players will now be able to access all items there, even those stored in their stash. Additionally, we've introduced a preview feature that displays item name, level, alternate spaces, and eventual alternate names + alternate sequence name when standing over items on the ground.



Another stretch goal we've successfully implemented is the Custom class. This new feature gives players the freedom to select one of the 12 skill tabs each time they reach the required level to unlock a new tab. Basically, you will be able to mix and match any 3 skill tabs you like 😁

We've also been hard at work optimizing the effect system. While this has required us to redo some effects, it will ultimately help to reduce lag spikes in the long run. We're also continuing to add and polish skills. For instance, we've introduced a new skill for the Guardian class: Rally Flag. This ability damages enemies around it upon landing and then acts as a buff zone for you and your allies.



Lastly, we're proud to announce that our game, Coridden, was showcased during PAX East in Boston. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to share our work with a wider audience and receive valuable feedback 😎
