August 2023 Dev Log: Steam VN Fest and Playtest Announcement

It’s the new month in August and we’re excited to give you some updates on what we’re currently working on in KISS.

Steam VN Fest and Playtest!

Apparently, we want to open the playtest today, coinciding with the Steam VN Fest.
Our team has been working very hard over the past week, but there's still not enough time.
We need to make sure of a few details here and there.

[h2]Rhythm Mini Game - Step by Step[/h2]
Beside Playtest announcement, what we'd like to showcase today is the development journey of one of our minigames, rhythm games.
We've been iterating the gameplay and visuals.

We're fans of DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and Pump It Up-type games.
And this rhythm game is the first thing that came to our minds that fits with the KISS concept, a management simulation about K-pop, idols and music.
So, if you're also the fan of DDR or Pump It Up, we hope that you’ll love this too!

This is the first look of the basic idea of the game. We started with the WASD keys on keyboard.




After the game is working, we started to get the 1st looks, and laying out the UI.
From left to centered, we also tried different backgrounds.





We still wanted to have more K-pop feels in the game.
So we added more polishing and animation, and this is the final look of the game.

Schedule Tree


Besides the mini-games, we also added a new feature to help players plan a better schedule while playing.

Through the Schedule Tree, you'll be able to see what tasks next and how to unlock them, giving you clearer ideas on what to choose and focus on in the game.
The early prototype still a bit messy...



We've tried to clean it up a bit, and voila!
Hope that it's clear enough and informative now.
As you can see, the Schedule Tree mainly will have 3 big categories. Tehee! ːsteamhappyː



Gamescom and TikTok!


We’d also like to announce that KISS: Kpop Idol StorieS - Road to Debut will be joining Gamescom this year.
So if you’re interested in trying the game, have a chit chat with our team at the event, or just say Hi! or Hwaiting! ..kindly visit our booth at Hall 3.02 stand E 018g - F 019g.

Besides our Twitter, now We finally have a TikTok account.
Not just showing the game.. Sometimes we're also showing the making process, and more about the devs daily life.

We are so excited to come back with some updates from KISS game development.
We hope that you are as excited as us!

Today, we're here to update you on how we created KISS trainee's schedule and phone menu.
Let us know what you think about it! 🥰


[h2]How it all started…[/h2]

Since the game is mainly about scheduling and management, KISS’ schedule and phone layout have been revamped periodically, to bring a more modern approach and feelings about what we all love about K-Pop.


The Schedule menu was looking like this upon the earliest stage of its development:




This was the early UI made by our programmers back in 2021.


[Yes, the development has been running for some time now, since our team has a main project to support KISS development. We also went through a lot of iterations during the production!]






However, we wanted to make it more comfortable to play since we have a group to manage and not just a single character.

We tried to refer at the Princess Maker series and found that putting a single schedule for a day is more comfortable for KISS gameplay mechanics.



Then we decided to simplify the schedule menu. Take a look at..

We are pretty much happy that the new look now enhances the ambiance to reflect our love for K-Pop and the music itself!

December 2022 Dev Log

After the page is live sometime back then,
We haven't announced any progress on KISS: KPOP Idol StorieS for a long time.

Recently We have put small updates on our Twitter page,

which sometimes faster for us while preparing for dev log. ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː


But as the production goes deeper, We want to start sharing our progress in a more 'formal' way with the game's followers on Steam.

We are a small studio in a rural area, and your support means a lot to us.


Schedule and Characters


We are currently still looking for a good name for these girls!
We have been looking all around, but We also want to hear what our followers think when they see them.
If you managed to have a good Korean girl's name to suggest,
please do so!






So as a KPOP idol group manager, managing schedules is very important.
Each of the trainees you have in your group will have their hand drawn chibi's form.






They will help you show their performance in each schedule that's running the whole week.
Show what they're doing, is it an Amazing performance, or a bad one.
They can slack around.


So it's important for you to keep their happiness, stamina while leveling up their ability until their debut.
Or else, it may delay their debut, or even losing a member.
