Steam Deck Beta Client Update: May 2nd

Note: This update is for the Steam Deck Beta and Preview channels, and includes new features that are still being tested. You can opt into this in Settings > System > System Update Channel.

General
  • Implemented find bar for searching within a web page
  • Added product name to Activate a Product dialog on successful activation
  • Fixed chance of first webpage navigation each session being unreachable via the back button
  • Fixed systray menu opening across monitor boundaries for certain display configurations
  • Clicking on a comment notification will now navigate to the first unread comment in the thread
  • Fixed Controller Calibration window closing when opening the Output tab from Steam Desktop UI
  • Fixed some alignment issues on the downloads page
  • Fixed some alignment issues in the bottom bar


Screenshots Manager
  • Fixed list preview images distorting screenshot aspect ratios
  • Fixed dialog remaining in background on attempts to reopen
  • Fixed old dialog showing up after game sessions instead of new dialog for users with that setting enabled


Settings
  • Settings that require a restart will now give the option to restart later


Steam Input
  • Added missing inputs to the "Listen" dialog
  • Fixed a bug where repeatedly opening the configurator to the same config could cause edits to not stick
  • Fixed issues with gyroscope orientation in Joystick Move mode

Steam Deck Beta Client Update: May 1st

General
  • Fixed a crash related to http transfers
Desktop Mode
  • Fixed -silent command-line option not working
  • Fixed windows not grouping together in the taskbar
  • Fixed pinning a steam window to the taskbar resulting in a shortcut that could not launch steam
  • Fixed association of steam windows with the steam.desktop application entry
Steam Input
  • Virtual Menus now work in the desktop overlay
  • Added binding listener dialog that lets you bind inputs by hitting a mouse button, keyboard key, or gamepad button
  • LED Color/Brightness Action reinstated as a bindable action. Find the Action settings inside the Game Pad tab when selecting an action binding (available on controllers with LEDs only).
  • Fixed the controller configurator not fully closing when backing out via gamepad in the Desktop overlay
  • Fixed the controller configurator opening layout previews in a new window instead of directly in the configurator
  • Fixed cases where alt-tabbing between the stand alone instance of the desktop configurator and a game would not update the in-game layout

Steam Deck Beta Client Update - April 28th

Note: This update is for the Steam Deck Beta and Preview channels, and includes new features that are still being tested. You can opt into this in Settings > System > System Update Channel.

Note: this update was re-released with the following additional fixes:
  • Fixed a crash that could occur if toggling bandwidth limits while a game download is in flight, or if cloud syncs while a game download is in flight.
  • Fixed issues in sign in UI when switching between entering a Steam Guard code and entering a backup code
  • (Steam Deck Desktop) Fixed file type filters for non-Windows platforms in the Add Non-Steam Game dialog


General
  • Added soundtrack playback controls to the library and quick access menu


Steam Desktop Mode
  • Fixed issues with the main window rendering black due to GPU compositing being disabled
  • Fixed login dialog briefly showing when shutting down the Steam Client
  • Updated some icons in the Settings dialog
  • The game is ready for preload & game released spotlight in the library will no longer show for users who own the game through family sharing
  • Added a 'Compatibility' tab to Settings where SteamPlay settings can be changed.

    In-Game Overlay
    • Fixed overflow of friend icons
    • No longer close chat windows when toggling the visibility of the Friends List from the Toolbar
    • Added Players section and a button to view the Players dialog


    Screenshot Manager
    • Screenshots now are letterboxed, instead of squished; if they are a different aspect ratio than 16:9
    • Fixed issue where the Screenshot Manager would not switch to a new selection if it was already open


    Players Dialog
    • Added users in the current game to the top of the list when sorted by time
    • Added friend status to the rightmost column


Steam Deck Beta Client Update - April 27th

Note: This update is for the Steam Deck Beta and Preview channels, and includes new features that are still being tested. You can opt into this in Settings > System > System Update Channel.

General
  • Added a new warning icon to the header that will display when Steam Deck can't reach the Steam servers. Clicking the icon will navigate a page with more details.
  • The wifi icon will no longer show a yellow exclamation mark when Steam Deck can't reach the Steam servers. It will still show this icon if Steam Deck can't reach the internet (e.g. the connection has a login portal).
  • Added support for Mouse4 (Back) as B button in the interface
  • Fixed opening the "Reorder controllers" dialog in the main Big Picture Window when a game is running


Steam Input
  • Added new config export path that works while offline. In personal configuration dropdown the options are now "New Personal Save", which is this new option and "New Sharable Personal Save", which uses the existing Steam Workshop backend.
  • Filter the configuration export options based on whether the device is connected to Steam/Offline
  • Fixed some flashes when adjusting sliders in the Quick Settings section of the configurator
  • Fixed moving right in the mode settings page not jumping to the appropriate settings sub-page
  • Fixed turning off the Dual Sense Edge controller


Desktop mode
Today we’re shipping a significant update to Steam Client Beta, with new features and improvements to the Steam Desktop Mode experience. This includes:
  • Overhaul of the In-Game Overlay, with an updated design and new features
  • New Notes app, saved per-game, and accessible in-game or out
  • Steam Client notifications are now richer and more useful
  • The screenshot manager has been completely refreshed with new functionality

In addition to these features, a good portion of the work we did in this update went into significant improvements under-the-hood, including changes to how we share code across Steam Desktop, Steam Deck, and Big Picture Mode.
