Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 18

Hi everyone!
Hope the new year is treating you well.

Update 18 and the new Liquid System are here, or at least almost here!
The past two weeks have been quite frantic but we still somehow managed to get it implemented, albeit in an admittedly unstable form.
For this reason we have decided to make this new update accessible only on the beta branch, so that we can properly test it and fix all the remaining issues before fully releasing it.

So if you are feeling brave and want to give it a try, make sure to switch your version to our beta branch. To do this, just right click on your game in the steam library, click on properties, go to betas, and switch the branch.
Be warned however, the version is quite unstable, so do not try it with your main run, or you might risk ruining it.

Otherwise, just wait a few days as we'll merge both versions as soon as the new liquid system proves to be stable. ;)

Let's start with the content list:
Liquid System:
Liquids have been completely reworked. As a result, all containers are now able to contain all liquids making working with them a lot more practical and realistic. Gone are those ugly exploits with infinite water. :)

We tried our best to make old saves as compatible with the new system as possible, but the transition still had its limitations.
For now, know that any liquid from an older version will still be drinkable but you won't be able to transfer it to any other container. Old containers will update to new containers the moment they get empty, so we recommend you try to get rid of old liquids as soon as possible. We will be removing the old liquids on a future update, but we left them there for now so that you could transition to the new liquid system without losing all your water reserves.
Animal Raids:
Seagulls can now attempt to steal your food and damage your crops. A fear system will make them bolder as time passes and more cautious the more of them you kill.

Mice can now also damage your your food supply as well as your crops. Control their population by setting traps and store your food in chests and sacks to protect it.
Crop Improvements:
Now that crops can be damaged by seagulls and mice, a couple new improvements have been implemented to help you protect them.
First, you can now build a scarecrow that should help keep seagulls away by making them a bit more afraid of you.
Second, you can now prepare a pesticide with soap and chilli powder (done by crushing dried chilies) which you can apply to your crops in order to protect them from both seagulls and mice.
Tweaks:
- Chilies can now be dried and then turned into chili powder.
- Perforated coconuts (ex-drinkable/drained coconuts) can now rot and work as temporary flasks.
- Water reservoirs, puddles and raincatchers now lose water over time too.
- Added art for the bug repellant.
- Advanced spears now require rope to craft but can be carried on a satchel slot.
- More Items can now be dismantled.
- There's now a limit of 2 supply chests on the raft.
- Waves can now damage the Sails and the supply chests.
- Raft voyage is now one third longer.
- Chests are now cheaper to build.
Fixes and Hotfixes:
- Fixed a bug that prevented characters with the bug attractant perk from healing from their bug bites properly.
- Fixed bug that limited the amount of bandage plants that could exist to one.
- Coconut water now triggers nut allergy.
- Depression now gets cancelled when close to death.
- Added new items to the hammering tool categories for blueprints.
- Tweaked food saturations.
- Made Sun Allergy more dangerous.
- Fixed a bug that was causing bandage plant crops to create bandage plant crops.
- You now get 2 sago flour items from every sago pulp.
- Dirt can now be hammered with any hammering tool, not just stone.
- Sugar recipe now produces 4 sugar instead of 2.
- Tweaked chances of getting hurt when using bows or slings.
- Fixed some typos.
- Removed courage requirements for applying aloe vera gel to wounds.
- Fixed a bug that was making spearfishing on the beach a lot harder.

That's all for now. See you on the next update!

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 17

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all well and are having a nice time these Holidays.
The new update is here.

As mentioned last time, this will be the last update of 2021. The next one will be on January the 5th, 2022, two weeks from now. That said, we'll still be checking the forums and providing support as much as we can!
As previously announced, we are also raising the price of Card Survival: Tropical Island to reflect its current state.

Now to the content list:
New Traps:
We have introduced two new traps: the Log Trap and the Trapping Pit. These are both big game traps that can allow you to catch boars and monitor lizards without having to take risks.
They should make getting leather and meat less risky, as long as you are willing to invest in them.

The Log Trap is relatively easy to make if you have a metal axe, requiring just a log and some long sticks.
The Trapping Pit has higher success chances but is more complex and requires a shovel. This trap will be used to capture live animals in future updates but for now, it will just kill them.
New Recipes:
We've added some new recipes to make better use of our existing food items.
The new recipes are:
- Fish Taco: Uses flat bread and chillies.
- Fish Omelette: A good egg sink.
- Fish N Chips: Made by frying Yam and Fish. Nutritious and relatively cheap.
- Candied Ginger: Made mostly with ginger and sugar. A nice treat.
- Yam Jam: A tasty food that be spread on flatbread.
- Yam Curry: Made with Yam and Chillies.
New Leather Items:
Bedroll: A portable bed that can be used anywhere in the island and is specially useful for your raft journey.

Quiver: A "satchel" item that can carry up to six arrows, all of which count as if they were in your hand for the purpose of using the bow.
Menu and UI Improvements:
We have finally added an Options Menu! For now it comes with ambience and sfxs volume controls, scroll sensitivity and a reset game button. In the future we plan to add some UI customization options here as well.
Other things we've done are:
- Made it so that starting perks no longer force you to go through lots of new skills and blueprint popups.
-Beautified objective complete and blueprint unlocked popups.
- Reorganized the blueprints and made it so that their tabs show now icons instead of texts (so we can have more categories).
-Equipment and Journal buttons have been swapped.
Balance Tweaks and Minor Features:
- The Bow weapon can now be equipped as a satchel so that it no longer occupies a slot on the hand row.
- Added new sfxs and ambience sounds.
- Partridges can now be found in the jungle and wetlands, making them easier to access. The highlands will now become the home of a new animal that is coming on a new update soon.
- Traps now require rearming before reusing.
- Perks for the Islander Guy and the Mermaid have been tweaked.
- Tweaked difficulty names and values.
- New Art for Clay Bowl things (soaked yam, soaked sago, soap mix)
- Tweaked food saturation values so that it's easier to get saturated of certain foods.
- Made some changes to how animal populations work.
- Tweaked how environments affect crop growth, so that plants can still grow even in the worse cases, they just do it very slowly.
- Chicken Sandwich lemongrass requirement can now be replaced by other plants.
- Made rains more common in the first season.
- Tweaked difficulty names and scores.
- Compost Bin can now also be learnt simply by reaching a high enough herbology skill, without having to build actual crop plots.
- Oil and Fat are no longer completely consumed when used in most blueprints.
Fixes and Hot Fixes from this Week:
- Fixed a bug where you would get a permanent tooltip.
- Fixed a few bugs that were crashing the game.
- Fixed a bug where monitor lizards would eat the content of inventories.
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from boiling water with jerrycans on stoves and gas cookers.
- You can now see where the last supply capsule fell at all times with the TV perk.
- Vegetables now properly dry when you are not there.
- You can no longer use fat infinitely to make soap.
- You can now boil yam on clay bowls.
- Monitor Lizards can no longer enter the coop nor the raft.
- Fixed a bug that was preventing the copper spear blueprint from appearing.
- Fixed some typos.
- Monitor Lizard bites now heal faster.
- Yam can now be boiled in salt water too.

That's all the new content.
Alll that is left now is wishing you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year! :)
See you in 2022!

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 16

Hello everyone!

It's update time again.
Here's the list of content:
Quality of Life Improvements:
Large water containers like vases can now be stacked.

Inventories can now automatically or manually sort their contents, this will help ensure that cards inside them are always visible with minimal to no scrolling.

You can now upload your own portraits!
Crop Improvements:
Crops now grow faster or slower depending on what environment they are planted, so plants from dry places will grow slower in humid places and vice versa. I.e: Aloe Vera won't grow as fast in the jungle, Kava won't grow as fast on the beach.

You can now create a compost bin which slowly converts any organic waste into fertilizer, which can then be used to replace fish scraps when creating crop plots, or for fertilizing crops to make them grow faster.

Crops can now survive up to 3 days without water, making accidental crop deaths a bit more rare.

You can now plant all plants in the game, bar palm trees, large trees and small trees. So you can now grow your own bananas, nipa palms, tropical almonds and sago palms. These plants grow slower than smaller plants though so make sure to have some fertilizer at hand.

Spider Lily leaves, Kava roots and ginger can now be left to dry in any open environment (like beach, grasslands, highlands, etc...). Once dried up they no longer lose durability.
New Plants:
Two new plants have been added into the game:

Yam:
Yam can now be found in the jungle and the wetlands and can be dug up with some effort. Each plant will give a random number of tubers which must then be cut and boiled before they can be eaten. Once prepared however, yams are a new high calorie food source that can be grown in your crop plots.
Of course, you can expect a few new recipes for them to come out in the next few updates. :)

Chilies:
Chilies can be found in the grasslands and can be eaten to lower your body temperature. In future updates their powder will also be useful for protecting your crops against pests and as an ingredient in some recipes.
Tools Additions and Changes:
You can now craft scrap and copper shovels. These tools allow you to extract more sand, mud and dirt when digging, make it easier to dig up yams and will be used in some future blueprints (like wells).

The copper spear is now crafted differently, by making a spearhead with a mold.

Be warned, there is not enough copper in the island for all the tools, so you will need to choose which ones to prioritize and make the rest out of scrap.
Monitor Lizard Raids:
Monitor Lizards can now attack your camps if you leave meat lying around so make sure to store your food in chests or inventories or you might end up losing some of your supplies. You can always try to scare them away or distract them too, specially if you are carrying a weapon.
These attacks will only start happen on the second month, so new players should be safe from them.
Balance Changes and Tweaks:
- Being wet now lowers your fever more than before.
- Aloe Vera can no longer be found in the grasslands.
- Bug repellent can now be crafted with any hammering tool, not just with stones.
- You can now get hurt by boars while hunting with ranged weapons too, although the chances are lower.
- The raft's sail is now crafted with leather instead of cloth.
- Tropical Almond Trees no longer grow in the jungle, but in the grasslands and highlands.
Fixes and Hotfixes for the week:
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from gathering mud from mud deposits.
- Fixed wrong name for hammering tools on blueprints.
- Fixed a bug that was causing stitched leg lacerations to make your work slower with your hands.
- Made Calm weather a bit more common while on the raft.
- Fixed a bug that wouldn't let you sleep on the raft while the weather was calm.
- Tweaked some stat bar colours to make them more visible.
- Tweaked trap chances.
- Fixed a bug that was creating infinite copper.
- Added more items to the filters and removed some others.
- Fixed a bug that caused water rations to have infinite uses when used for washing wounds.
- Fixed a bug with cooking snakes.
- Tend now takes less time to deconstruct.
- Tweaked raincoat costs.
- Fixed a bug with self destructing supply capsules.

That's all for now!
Have a nice week everyone!

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 15

Hello everyone,

It's time for the weekly update.
Today we'd like to start with a few announcements:

1 - Android Version: We have been working on an android version of the game and we are happy to say that it shouldn't be long until we are ready to release it. At the moment we're just working on further optimizing the game to improve its framerate on phones. If all goes well we believe it should probably be coming out at some point in January.

2 - Price Increase: Card Survival, starting from the 22nd of this month, is going to receive a price increase, from 7 to 10 dollars (or a proportional increase in your local currency). As the game grows in content and polish, we believe this new price will better reflect its current play value as well as our development investment. :)

3 - Holidays: We won't be releasing an update on the 29th of december, as we will be busy visiting family. We are planning on compensating for that however, by using those two weeks to finally implement the long awaited new liquid system! Which to be honest, has proved to be too large to be implemented in one of our weekly updates.

Now, here's the actual content:
New Filter System and Extra Bookmarks:
We have introduced a filter system to help reduce the amount of scrolling during the game. There are four filters:
- Camping: Beds, Fires, Wood, Light Sources, Tinder
- Food: Anything edible, Cooking Stations
- Water: Liquids, Liquid Containers
- Crafting: Tools, Tailoring Items, Raw Materials
This is a first implementation and I'm sure it could use a lot of polish so feel free to give us any feedback or tell us if there's any item you think should go into one of the filters.

The old bookmarks now appear to the sides of the hand row, so we used the extra room to add two extra bookmarks to hopefully make game navigation easier. :)
Blueprint System Improvements:
We have removed the confirmation step for placing blueprints, so now players will be able to check their requirements from the menu with a single click.
In addition to this we have also added an auto complete blueprint button that will fill all slots with available resources, making the whole process easier.
New Island Layout:
The wetlands no longer connect to the mangroves and the jungle no longer connects to the highlands.
There is now a new environment, the grasslands, which connects the jungle, the mangroves and the highlands together. The old cliffs that could be found in the jungle still exist, but are now located in the wetlands, connecting this environment with the highlands as well. Be warned though, they are lot harder to climb now.
Accessing the highlands from the grasslands however requires no climbing, but still comes with its own dangers.
Grasslands:
This new advanced environment is bit of a crossroads in the island and contains partridges, aloe vera and lemongrass like the highlands. When camping there, due to its open nature, you'll also have light during clear nights like in the beach.
The grasslands are also home to a new population of monitor lizards (that is connected to the mangrove one) and a new predator: the spitting cobra.
Spitting Cobras can be found here and in the highlands and will try to spit in your eyes if you bump into them. If they get you, you'll have to wash your eyes as quickly as possible, or end up with permanent eye damage. Finding them is not completely bad however, as they can also be killed and cooked for their meat.
It is also worth mentioning that monitor, cobra and partridge populations interact with each other. The more monitor lizards in the grasslands for example, the less partridges and cobras you'll find. Get rid of the monitors and you'll get more cobras. Kill all monitors and cobras and you'll get more partridges. :)
Minor New Features:
Raincoat: It can be crafted with a plastic sheet and should protect you from the rain.
Mud Protection: You can now apply mud to your body to protect you from bug bites and the sun. It will make you very dirty though, so don't do it if you have open wounds.
Edible Aloe Vera: Aloe Gel can now be eaten to get an acceptable amount of hydration. It is highly diuretic however, so it will give you diarrhoea very easily.
Interface Improvement: The left side of the in-game area has now been improved to fit the new art style of the menus.
Killer Drones Perk: A new challenging perk that works quite well with the TV one. It will spawn aggressive killer drones in the island that you'll be able to meet while exploring.
Balance Tweaks:
- The copper ore piece that could be found in the dark cave is now in the highlands instead, making it necessary to reach the highlands if you want to craft a copper axe.
- Optimist perk has been nerfed and bug resistant has been tweaked.
- Trees now take longer to cut with the stone axe.
- TV Perk capsules now fall every 2 days, and self destruct in only 2 days as well.
Fixes and Hotfixes from this week:
- Fixed bug that would happen when you quit the game while exploring.
- Made it so that deployed tents drop their contents when dismantled.
- Fixed a bug that was causing the scrap tools not to work on certain recipes.
- Water reservoirs and raincatchers can no longer be placed on the raft.
- Kiln can now store unfired clay fire pits while not burning.
- Leather Shoes now give stuff when broken.
- Made sure that Crop Plots, Stove and other structure can't be built in the raft.
- TV Collar can no longer be destroyed.
- Tweaked Capsule rewards.
- Fixed a bug that was causing the clay fire pit to not need firing.
- Fixed a bug that was preventing roasted prawns and roasted fish scraps from burning.
- It's now harder to wake up from sleep because of nausea.
- Sun Strength tweaks.
- Coops, Kilns and Mudhuts can no longer be built in the raft.

That should be all for now.
Have a nice week everyone! :)

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 14

Hello everyone!

Update time again. :)
Here's our content list:
End Game Sailing:
The game no longer finishes when you push the raft into the sea, you will now need to survive on the raft until you are able to find civilisation. This could take a variable amount of time so you'll have to make sure you have enough supplies to survive the journey.

Here's a list of all the sailing stage features that are currently implemented:

- Wind System: Raise the sails when the wind is favourable to speed up your raft and reach civilization faster, lower them under unfavourable conditions to prevent damage to your sails and avoid losing distance travelled.

- Storms: Do not leave anything on the base row during storms, as big waves can strike the raft and make you lose many of the objects you have there. Make sure to store all your items on your hand or equipment inventories or in the secured supply chests, of which you can now build multiple.

- Sail Repairs: Your sail will lose durability over time, specially when open under unfavourable conditions. Use cord to repair it and don't neglect it. If it gets destroyed the journey might take a lot longer.

- Seasickness: Your character will get nausea when the sea is agitated so expect to throw up a lot. Fortunately, after enough days you should get used to the sea and stop being nauseous.

- Clay Fire Pit: Something of a portable campfire that you can actually light on the raft without burning it.

- Survival Guide: We've also updated the guide with sailing information.

There are still many things we would like to implement to this maritime section of the game, but it was all too big to implement in one single update so expect new features to come soon. ;)
Menu Revamp and Video Tutorials:
We've given all the menus a visual rework to make them look prettier. Hope you like the changes!

In addition to this we've also added a Video Tutorial section to the Survival Guide that should hopefully help new players. All the videos there have been made by Neomare, a very nice youtuber who has been very active and helpful in the forums. He has a ton of Card Survival and Card Quest content in his channel, so make sure to check it if you are feeling like watching playthroughs of our games.
New Perks:
We've added a couple small perks and one big one.
The small ones are:
- Nut Allergy (like shellfish allergy, but applies to coconuts and almonds)
- Sailor (makes you immune to sea sickness)

The big one is a difficult one made for those players who are looking for a challenge.
It makes you start in the island as if you were inside a game show. Every 3 days a supply capsule will be dropped somewhere in the island and you'll have 3 days to find it or a collar you have locked around your neck will electrocute you. If you manage to find all 8 capsules you'll win the game and become a millionaire (only in the game, not in real life).
Tweaks and Fixes:
- Fixed a bug that was causing raincatchers not to give back stones when deconstructed.
- Monitor Lizards will be a lot less likely to attack during the first few Mangrove exploratory trips.
- Moonlight now provides less light when the weather is partially cloudy or cloudy.
- Spider Lily and Snakegrass crop plots now give more plants, ginger crop plots give less.
- Made partridges easier to catch with snare traps.
- Nipa Seeds can now be used for the jungle salad too.

Oh, and I almost forgot. We also added hand wrappings back into the game. :)
See you on the next update!
