Early Access Hotfix - 2023/01/24

FIXED
  • When the player has upgraded the Billhooks to the second level, damage to the Scythe and the Cloak weapons will increase each time the player will leave the elevator
  • If the player starts a run, doesn’t dash, doesn’t talk to an NPC, and doesn’t let the Pyroghost hit him first, the player will become invincible
  • When the HP of the player is reduced by 30 from the modification of the Breakdown XV, the player can go to the training room to regain the missing HP
  • The time stops running during boss fights if the player takes the Boss elevator (reception area)
  • When the player reaches the following sorrows: Mr. Gordon Grimes, Mr. Hector Krank, and Major Warren Pliskhan from the Boss Elevator, the theme music of the Brad boss fight will be played in the background
  • On rare occasions, the game may freeze indefinitely after game over or restart, possibly due to corruption of the save file. If the issue occurs once on a save file, there’s no known way to save the file. The player may even win the run, but the next time they die/reset the issue will occur again.
  • In cloak storage floor, the weapon cairn doesn't contain any weapons
  • The player could lose all his currencies by upgrading the spell Moskillto to level 2 or above.
  • The player could not take another weapon if he had the spell Moskillto upgraded to level 3 in his inventory.

Steam Deck Issue & Workaround

With the Executive Decisions Update, we encountered an issue on Steam Deck where Death stays in the Charged Attack stance preventing progress. The problem seems to come from the main attack key being held down with the keyboard/mouse controls, and only appears with the *7.0-6 version of Proton*. Here are two temporary workarounds that you can use while we work to resolve the issue:

1st option: If you want to stay on the version 7.0-6 of Proton (we assume you forced it in the Compatibility settings)
  • Start the game
  • While on the Title Screen or In game, go to the options
  • Go to "Controls" tab
  • Click on "Keyboard"
  • Click on "Main attack"
  • Change the input by another one with the virtual keyboard (Steam + X)

2nd option: Disable the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
  • Select Have A Nice Death on your Steam Deck’s library
  • Go to the settings (the gear icon)
  • Select “Properties”
  • Select “Compatibility”
  • Disable the option "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"

We're currently working on a hotfix to resolve the issue asap.

Executive Decisions Update - Notes

Dear recruits,

We are excited to announce the Executive Decisions update will be available 12/15 for Have a Nice Death in Steam Early Access. This new content drop marks the final major update for the Early Access version of the darkly charming roguelike before it launches on Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam and Steam Deck) on March 22, 2023. With tomorrow’s Executive Decisions update, Have a Nice Death Early Access players will find a slew of new content, like new bosses (including a secret mini-boss!), weapons, spells, story content and festive winter holiday decorations. Additionally, major quality-of-death improvements have been added, such as six new difficulty modes, including a beginner-friendly mode, and a new meta progression system.

Have a Nice Death is in Early Access which means we’ve got our team working our fingers to the bone on our plans and your feedback (from Steam, Discord, and across socials). We’ve got more new content for the game, so check back for regular updates across the coming months.

Read up for the full list of changes coming in the Executive Decisions Update!

IMPORTANT
Here’s the list of important info/bugs you need to know for this update:
  • Localization:
    • We keep adding new game text (gameplay, UI, Dialogs), but it can take some time to translate everything in all 10 languages of the game. Localization will be regularly updated in upcoming update notes.
  • About crashes:
    • We are aware that crashes occurred on specific integrated graphics cards and our devs are working to find a proper fix.
    • The problem seems to be an issue with Intel's GPU drivers and DirectX11. Please, before playing, check if your drivers are up to date. And if you still have the issue, we added compatibility with DirectX12 which seems to fix the problem on some GPUs. This option can be activated by adding the following command in the "Game Launch Options" of the game on Steam: -force-d3d12
  • Known Bugs:
    • Some random dialogs for the new Brad version are missing. See them in the next hotfix patch.
    • When using the skip of the movie bosses, there can be visual problems with their animation.
    • Death passes on some of the new Christmas assets while they are in the foreground.
    • Possible missing SFX - No voice at all on boss dialogues, no voice on the first line of each dialogue.
    • Some elements in Will Hung's office are not the right ones.
    • In the shop, if the player finds an item on sale, he can’t purchase it before getting the amount of soularies required BEFORE the sale. The amount of soularies used is still the correct one. (For example: the koffee normally costs 20 and 10 with the sales. You will need 20 soularies in your inventory to buy it but only 10 are used).
    • The icons and VFX of weapons may be missing in the Secret room cairns.
    • Only the first mine of PumpQuinn Omega explodes and deals damage
STEAM DECK ISSUE
We encountered an issue on Steam Deck where Death stays in the Charged attack stance leading to a soft lock. Until we can correct this bug, you can still play  the prior build of the game released before the latest December update by following these steps:
- Select Have A Nice Death on your Steamdeck’s library.
- Go to the settings (the gear icon).
- Select “Properties”.
- Select “Betas”.
- Enter the following code: Have1NiceDeck.
- Press “Check Code”
- Go to the drop-down menu, and select “steamdeck - Stable branch for Steam Deck platform”.
- Back to the game, the download should start.
- Enjoy the (previous) update, no rest for the CEOs!

SPECIAL THANKS
We want to give a special shout-out to the dedicated and incredible members of our community that help our team by reporting bugs, feedback and give interesting ideas.
