The Level Editor Update + Bug Fixes

Thanks for your patience!

This is our latest major update for our demo. I think it will be the penultimate one.

Rusted Moss now has a level editor that lets you create your own challenge courses to share! For now, we don't have Steam Workshop support but we plan to have it for the final game release. We'll be sharing some levels that we made as well in our discord.
Non-level editor updates
• Audio bug fix
 • Bug fix for screen wobble
 • Small little fixes here and there (performance and audio related)

Check out our guide on how to use our level editor.

LEVEL EDITOR GUIDE

Future of the Level Editor:
While it was fun to make and super awesome to actually try levels not made by us, we aren't sure how much more will get added to the level editor at this point. We still have so much to do before Rusted Moss' release so a lot of major updates and tweaks to the level editor will have to take place post launch. I'm sure there might be a smattering of small bugs inside the current level editor too.

The Last Major Update:
This is the update that will break the demo save files so you'd have to start the demo from the beginning again. However, any save files created after this update should be good.

We plan for the demo save files to be compatible with the full release so you can pick up where you left off.

This last major update will have updated dialogue + one additional NPC available in the demo area that will be more in-line with the final release.

Delay in August Update and changes to its content

Hey everyone!

Was not sure if a post was needed for this but just a heads up:

Our next update for our demo will be sometime in the first two weeks of September.

To re-iterate what would be going into that update:
 • Level editor for creating challenge courses
 • Bug fix for missing audio/music bug

The level editor is mostly done but there's still some cleanup to do and tests to run for it. Here's a sneak peek to what it is looking like now:

We expect the final version of the level editor to be pretty minimal so it is at a manageable scope for us. But people will be able to share levels with each other! We were told we could not integrate a demo with steam workshop so files will have to be shared manually on your own.

On full game release, it will have steam workshop integration.

Previously we mentioned this update will be breaking save files, we've decided to push that save file breaking update back to later this year. That update will be accompanied with dialogue that will match the final version of the game and possible additional NPCs in the demo area.

Audio Bug, Localisation, demo save file compatibility, Discord, and more updates

AUDIO BUG
We have had a major audio bug since our last update in July. This impacts the music. Music in the first area is missing and the music during the Maya boss fight is missing as well. There might be more areas impacted.

Currently, we think we have fixed the bug but are unable to push up the changes just yet. We are bundling this fix alongside our major August update that will include the level editor.

LOCALISATION
We are also aware that some of the languages localised in the demo has quality issues.

The final release of the game will have professional localisation done. Most of the dialogue in the demo will get reviewed as well so there might be changes here and there too.

DEMO SAVE FILE COMPATIBILITY TO FULL RELEASE
The major update coming in August will be erasing current demo save files. We plan for this to be the last time this happens. Rusted Moss was never meant to be such a full game and was meant to be a shorter experience (basically the initial scope was the current demo's length plus a little bit more). Because of this, we have some growing pains. This major update coming in August will allow us to add in more rooms in the final version (we are up to 600 rooms right now!)

We hope to keep demo save files compatible with the final release so that you'll be able to pick up and play the final release without having to replay the demo areas.

That being said, there might be dialogue changes + NPCs added in the final release that will appear in the demo areas. We hope to keep the demo as up to date as possible but these additional dialogue might only get added to the demo closer to release date anyway. So if you're worried about missing any of it, I'd say to replay the full release or play the demo closer to release. I think I'll make another announcement for when the demo has finalised dialogue. Open to hear people's feedback on it because we could also just hard reset save files again once the demo is "finalised".

DISCORD

CONTESTS/SPEEDRUNNING
We recently wrapped up a speedrunning contest of the Seer's area where we gave away enamel pins I am unsure if we'll be able to run another contest like this so soon.

Feel free to join our Discord or sign up for our newsletter if you don't want to miss out when these events happen.

Hotfix #8 + Custom palettes.

List of changes:
 • You can now use custom-palettes for Fern( Can be edited in local files ).
 • Fixed mech leg animations being weird(Still not perfect but fine for now).
 • Fixed mech gravity and friction.
 • Reduced hook pull on enemy to 38%(It was really powerful before, enemies just had weird interactions with it, with those fixed the hook would throw enemies across the screen).
 • Hitting enemies close to you works again.
 • Added some juice to hitting enemies.
 • Fixed some room transition bugs.
 • Removed RNG with enemies charging speed(Enemies used to have 0 to 1 second delay on initial attack. now it's always .5 seconds).
 • Fixed some grapple alignment issues.
 • Improved performance a bit.

Hotfix + Custom language support
Language support:
The game now supports custom localization files. In the games folder there should be a folder called "Languages", where all the files relating to localization should be. A language requires 3 files + 1 ini of it's general info. You can use the ones already there as reference on how to write/format these files.
Other fixes:
• Some better audio mixing
 • Fixed game crashing if dying in opening section
 • Fixed game soft-locking on pestilence fight
 • Fixed some weird room collisions
 • Fixed some weird enemy collisions
 • Added some temporary sounds for saving and teleporting
 • Fixed some objects not pausing
 • Fixed player sometimes randomly making dust particles
 • Tweaked Player non-action-speedup system (going faster if not shooting etc)
