Announcing the Friends vs Friends Closed Beta

Howdy, friend-os!

With just a week to go until launch, we figured we’d throw one last surprise your way. Starting May 25, we’re hosting a closed beta to get you ready for the big day! I know, right?!

We'll be offering sign-ups from May 25 at 17:00 CEST / 11:00 AM EST / 8:00 AM PST / 23:00 CST and running the beta until May 29 at 17:00 CEST / 11:00 AM EST / 8:00 AM PST / 23:00 CST through Steam Playtest (which means, you'll be able to sign up through our main Steam page)]. We'll be letting folks join in waves, so if you don't get in during the first days, don't discount yourself for later in the weekend!

We're hoping that all the progress you’ll make during the Closed Beta will carry over to the main release That means your levels, the cards you unlock, the weapons you collect, and all that good stuff - But if any unforeseen technical issues arise, a reset may be necessary (fingers crossed!)

The Closed Beta is gonna be capped to a certain achievable level, so you’ll only be able to get so far before the launch. There’s also a cap on the amount of in-game cash you can get, but it’ll only be for a short while as you’ll be playing the full thing just a few days later! We'd love to let everyone in but spots will be limited so be sure to sign up early to ensure your place!

We’re so close now, so don’t miss a beat and get up on that Wishlist. You’ll be glad you did.

Cards (and how to use them)

Howdy, Friends!

Because we reckin' you know how to shoot (or, at least, we hope you do) no need to cover that here - but let's make sure you know how to play your cards right, shall we?

Ask Little Lars (our giant but gentle polar bear) and they'll tell you how important deck management is in Friends vs Friends. This is why you need to balance your deck and make sure you're getting the most out of your hand.

There are all sorts of cards to choose from. Give your opponent a Big Head to make it easier to headshot them. Use vampire bullets to steal enemy health. Put down a turret to help defend you. There's even a Nuke card so you can wipe the map. You'll start your battle with 6 cards, but that doesn't mean you'll know what hand your opponent is holding so you'll need to build a mix of offensive, defensive, and weapon cards to make sure you come out on top.

Cards have positive impacts on you and your prospects of victory, but there are also negatively affecting cards that can reduce your accuracy, change bullets into rubber, and even poison you. There are even some rare cards that can be complete game-changers if you have them in your deck, like a mimic card which actually gives you the same ability as your opponent. Using those cards combined with a teammate in 2v2, well that can just about turn around the tide of any battle.

Cards can be boosted by opening card packs (earned through playing matches - winning gets your extra bucks!) and getting that card's double. The more doubles you obtain, the more powerful that card will be! Cash Crumbs (our shopkeeper with a certain "charm") will definitely be pleased to help you part with your money (in-game, of course, no pay-to-win here!)

You don't have long to think about the cards you want to take into battle with you as Friends vs Friends launches on May 30th! Wishlist now so you don't miss it, friend-o.

Matchmaking!

Howdy, Friends!

You’re gonna be hearing a lot more from us now we’re getting close to launch and wanna make sure you’re super-duper prepared for everything and anything right out of the gate. Like how to matchmake, for instance. That’s pretty important in Friends vs Friends. Y’know, considering that’s what we’re all about. Don’t worry though, we’re going to show you how to do it in a few easy steps:

  • The game is built around 1v1 and 2v2 matches, so that means you won’t be waiting around in queues for an age — There’s always someone spoiling for a fight around these parts!

  • While you're wandering around the hub, you can easily jump into a queue at any time by hopping on the bus and, if you're feeling bold, join the standard queues for each match type. The matchmaking system will line you up with someone around your level so you can test your skills.

  • If you're looking to settle a score with your siblings or your buddy wants to prove they've got your back, you can hop into a Private Match and take them on head to head or side by side. You'll generate a code that you can pass to your enemy/friend to make sure you're playing together.

  • Practice makes perfect, so if you're finding you're a bit rusty with the old FK-82, you can dive into a session with bots to sharpen those skills (and katana, if you're so inclined). If you want to test out specific weapons, head to the basement of the diner to use the firing range!

  • We recommend you experiment with your deck, make changes, and try to find the most effective combination of cards to suit how you wanna play!

Stay tuned for more tips and tricks before Friends vs Friends launches on May 30th! Get on our wishlist to make sure you don't miss a single update!

Let's get to The Hub!

Well, howdy, folks! We’re just a few weeks away from launch and there’s still so much we want to tell you! Let's start with a little peak of The Hub, aka Buddy's Boulevard, shall we?

...Wait, what do you mean you’ve never heard of The Hub? Did you miss all the leaks on the FvF socials? It’s the place to be! The Hub is your customization destination in between matching with your friends, your enemies, and everyone else in between.

We’ve got a lovely little diner where you can hang out, look out the windows, admire the fish tank, and check out your cards! This is the spot to start making your deck of choice. Study your cards, make changes, experiment with combos, and tweak in perfect safety, all while watching the world (and its traffic) go by outside.

Nancy, the Diner's waitstaff, is ready to dish you up daily and weekly quests alongside their famous blueberry pie.

If you head to the Diner's basement, you'll discover a shooting range and a little Shop owned by one very handsome Goose. Cash will be eagerly waiting to sell you new card booster packs with your hard-earned "Friendo" bucks! If you get some new weapons, be sure to try them out in the firing range in the same room. Just find your favorite armament and take out some of those frustrations on pop-up cardboard. Don't worry, it has it coming.

If you swing by the bathroom, you'll be able to check out the character selection screen in case you want to try a new Friend (or even just dress them up in your hard-earned character skins!)

You’ll also notice some empty outlets while wandering around. That’s because there are still a few places waiting to open — the good news is they won’t stay empty for long! Content drops and Expansions will be heading your way soon after launch to give The Hub a major facelift! Stay tuned in June when we show off what will be available for the first few major updates.

Fortunately, YOU won’t have to wait much longer to visit to The Hub as Friends vs Friends launches on May 30! Slap us a wishlist, will ya?

Until next time, Friends!
