Dev Log: Making Great Progress

Hey everyone,
its been a week since we last had a conversation with our community. This week, we wanted to share what the devilized combat looks like and some cool interesting bugs that we found (and have long since been fixed).
Devilized Skills
We have shown off that animated gif quite a bit, but today we talk a little bit more about the mechanics (without spoiling too much)!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Once you acquire the devil form, you can use it at any time (we recommend using it when there are enemies around, but feel free to do whatever).

The devilized form follows the principle of 'The best defense is an even better offense.' The devilized form will chip away at your health as you spend time in it, but it can be replenished as you keep landing attacks. However, this form's powerful nature is difficult to control and the attacks are slightly different from your normal skill set, so make sure you get used to it before you use it in a tough situation!
Finding All of the Bugs
Thanks to our Early Access community as well as those who participated in the CBT, we tracked down a lot of bugs that would have hampered the game play experience. For that and so much more, we are sincerely indebted to all of you.

That being said, not all bugs are equal and we wanted to take this time to show you some of the glorious random little bugs that we have found over the course of development.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Ever smack a boss so hard that it just bounces? There was a lot of confusion, but this has also long since been fixed.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
In one of the early versions of the game, for whatever reeason, Kim Rip decides to lie down and just... never get back up. Again, this has long since been fixed. He looks so peaceful...
Some Improvements Made
For those of you who had played the demo as well as the Early Access version, we got a lot of feedback for not just the base game systems, but also just how things were presented. Today, we talk about some of the improvements that seem small, but proved to be really beneficial changes for the game.
Unifying Terminology
Over the course of development, there were times where terminology found in the game had changed, but it wasn't properly reflected in the entirety of the game. One example is stats:

We made sure to use terms that are readily understandable (or able to be learned from playing the game). We also tried to make the numbers themselves easier for people to digest and process.

In this case, we adjusted the terminology to make sure that the Dash term is unified throughout the game (except for situations where the word Charge makes sense).
Default Skills
Another point of concern for players of the community was that the initial skill set you are given is confusing. Players thought you could only do Concentrated Counterattacks from a perfect parry rather than the dodge/dash. This was because players had to learn a skill in order to perform those attacks. We made it so that the default load-out would allow you to perform Concentrated Counterattacks from the parry, dodge, and dash.

We hope you enjoyed this small little log! As always, please let us know your feedback! The road to launch is a busy one, but we are extremely excited!

Some More Sneak Peaks!

Hello everyone,
As we get closer to launching the game (the date will be announced sooner rather than later), we are excited to show off some cool things that are going to make their way to the launch version of The Devil Within: Satgat!

While we do some teasers, we would also like to share some of the results that we got back from the CBT that we recently held.
Overall Gameplay
Amongst those who participated in the CBT, we found that a lot of users were extremely pleased with the overall gameplay as well as the flow of the game. In particular, we received a lot of positive reviews regarding the improved combat mechanics as well as the Perfect Dodge/Dash/Parry system.

We have been constantly been tweaking the timing of the Perfect Dodge/Dash/Parry system and we really think we nailed it now. The timing is a bit more precise on hard mode, but it was really good to see players adapt quickly to the timing and planning out their attacks as they continued to learn the nuances of the attacks that they can employ.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Another part of the gameplay that users enjoyed were the boss fights. This was something that people had always liked, whether it was in the first demo or during Early Access. However, we wanted to make sure that we didn't let up, that we kept making new boss fights equally as engaging.
Overall Difficulty
One of the most requested features was the difficulty settings and CBT users found that to be well balanced. Easy mode is for story viewing purposes, Normal is a balance between story and difficulty, and Hard mode is for - for a lack of better words - hardcore players. We had a few users who also really liked the idea that you are not locked into your difficulty choice and that the only times you cannot change the difficulty is DURING the boss fights.
Music Improvements
During Early Access, one of the common pieces of feedback that we got was that there were certain areas where it was too quiet. While some sections were meant to be eerily quiet, there was an overall lack of music in parts of the game where there should have been.

During the CBT, users found the music choices to be appropriate and added to the game. We are so happy to hear this as we worked tirelessly to get the right sounds for the right atmosphere. We are excited for all of you to check out the full version of the game!
Overall Story and Voice Acting
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
During the CBT, those who had played the Early Access version and had participated in the CBT found the story to flow much more naturally. They also felt that the voice acting helped bring the story to life, whether it be in Korean or in English. The voice actors for both languages worked really hard in making sure the tone of their scenes matched with the game, so we hope you guys get to check it out in the full version of The Devil Within: Satgat.
Art/Cutscene Direction
While the artwork was received well in general, there were some users who felt that certain scene animations were a bit awkward, which broke a layer of immersion for them. We are going to continue to edit and refine these parts so that players will be able to fully enjoy the game.
Bugs/Issues/Translations
While it is inevitable in a CBT, we were disappointed to hear about the bugs/issues that were in the game. Things like translations were actually in a good spot, but some awkward moments like run-off-the-screen text as well as non-translated bits made their way to the CBT. Rest assured that these issues will be resolved in the final version of the game.

We look forward to being able to share more news with you as we head towards launch!

The Plan Ahead for The Devil Within: Satgat

Hello everyone,
it has been quite some time since we last updated you. We apologize for the lengthy radio silence, but we have a lot of news that we would like to share with our audience.

It has been some time since the last update, which was all the way in July.
That update saw some huge changes, including:
 • Revamped stages filled with chests
 • Weapon variety
 • Addition of accessories and artifacts
 • New elite monsters that test your combat skills
 • Difficulty modes that can be adjusted at any time
 • Boss Challenges that reward you based on how difficult the boss has been set to
 • Fast travel in and between stages to go collect whatever was missed
 • Adjustment of the stamina system to benefit players
 • Added an anti-air skill to the concentrated counter-attacks

These changes were received well by the community, which also spurred on more feedback that we made sure to note!

We also attended Gamescom 2024 as well as the Tokyo Game Show 2024, which were huge successes! We thank everyone for participating, spreading the word, and having fun with the game. On with the news!
Price Increase for The Devil Within: Satgat
We are planning on raising the price of Early Access starting this Friday, October 18th 2024 GMT+9. If you or your friends are thinking about getting in to The Devil Within: Satgat, make sure to do so before this Friday GMT+9!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1802880/The_Devil_Within_Satgat/

When we launched Early Access in April 2024, we did so knowing that there was content to be added. We wanted to work on new and old stages, get the balance right, add all the right stuff and remove all of the bad stuff. We here at Newcore Games listened to all of the feedback we got, whether it be on the forums, on Discord, or in-person at events. We also believe that the game at launch is going to be at a great place. The price increase is being done to not only reflect how much content is going in, but also to make sure that the game remains affordable.

From late September to early October was our last sale for Early Access (this is a huge hint for what's to come). Barring any issues, there also will be a change in how the next update is going to happen because...
Regarding the Launch of The Devil Within: Satgat
Newcore Games has made so much progress that we will be able to head straight into launch by the end of the year! Again, barring any mishaps or issues, the development of the full game is progressing a lot more efficiently than previously anticipated! The game has improved in a lot of different areas and we wanted to take this time to let you know of the changes + additions that are coming to the full launch of the game!
A New Revamped Story-line
This was mentioned before, but the story for The Devil Within: Satgat has been revamped and judging from some of the testers and industry vets that got to have a look at it - it improved tremendously. Our story writer is insanely talented in taking what we had and cranking it up. We also have English voice acting added to the game! Here is a sneak peak at the intro scene with Dongbaek's English VA!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

One more sneak peak for all of you:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
New Faces, New Dangers
Meet Shinman, the Deputy State Councillor that plays a role in how the story turns out. Arrogant, brash, and with delusions of grandeur, this Deputy State Councillor is more than capable of putting up a good fight. He is a formidable foe, but players who have been honing their skills will be able to get by him.

With the full version and the revamped storyline comes new faces that Kim Rip must get by in order to unlock the secrets of his world as well as his own memories.
The Capital
Stage 4 is all about The Capital - Kim Rip will return to the city that he was once a Royal Guard of. The reasons for his return will be revealed in the story, but the Capital has changed from a splendid prospering city into one of utter ruin, overrun by demons. Those who have been with us since the beginning will be quick to note that the change in the Capital was seen in the intro cutscenes of when they start the game.

The story unfolds quite a bit here - Kim Rip comes to grips with his past and other characters play a pivotal role in the Capital. Aside from the story, Kim Rip also gains access to powers here that have long since been teased (as well as abilities that our community have been asking for!), so we cannot wait for players to fully experience all that the Capital has to offer.
What else is being added to the game?
Without spoiling too much, Kim Rip has reasons to go back to old stages that have been altered due to events in the story. However, the story does culminate where it all began: at the Ebon Sting.
What are some new abilities that we can look forward to? What about the one part of the skill tree that we could never access?
We don't want to give too much away, but here is another sneak peak at one of the coolest things you can do in the game.

We are deeply grateful for your continued interest and support as we go towards launch. As always, please let us know your feedback!

Dev Log: Catching Up and Tokyo Game Show 2024

Hello everyone,

We are currently at the Tokyo Game Show, where we have multiple pcs setup to have players try out the boss challenge modes found in the Early Access version! If you are in the area, please do come by the Korean Pavilion at Hall 3 and visit to get some cool limited swag!

We also want to mention that the game IS on sale at the moment, so if you have any friends that want to check out The Devil Within: Satgat, there is no better time to get the game on sale!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1802880/The_Devil_Within_Satgat/

These past few months have been busy with the events that we have attended as well as some of the stuff we have been cooking on the backend. Aside from a great showing at the Indie Arena Booth at Gamescom 2024 and a surprise appearance at BitSummit 2024, there are few things we would like to update the community on.

The release of the game is still scheduled before the end of this year. The exact date is still something we are hammering down, but we are very near in being able to announce it soon. During our time at the Tokyo Game Show, we had some pretty big news to share regarding console, so be sure to check out our official social media channels for all the latest news!

Also, there will be some big news (aside from some of the news that you may have heard out of the Tokyo Game Show 2024 earlier today) coming relatively soon. We are hard at work on some of the new bosses that are to come as well as working on the revised story. Here is a sneak peak at the design of one of the people who Kim Rip will be going toe-to-toe with: Shinman, the Deputy State Councilor.

We truly believe that our community will fall in love with the new story, as well as the WONDERFUL Korean and English voice actors working hard on bringing more life into the script. Yes – the game will be voiced in Korean and English – you can choose whichever you prefer. When we have some more work done, we will be showing off the work of these talented voice actors, so please stay tuned!

The 1st Major Update // Build 0.5.72.40165

Hello everyone,

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Last week we mentioned some contents of the update. Today, we would like to take the time and provide more details regarding the update. The first major update includes many changes that we believe will meet the expectations of our community. With that being said, we unfortunately will have to start by mentioning some unfortunate news.
Save File Progress
Because of the many changes that will happen with this update, your previous save file progress will not be able to carry over. We tried to work out ways where players can carry over their progress, but due to the huge changes to the underlying structure of the game, we unfortunately had to abandon the idea of save file compatibility. This was a decision that we did not make lightly and it was an inevitable choice for progress. We hope for your understanding.

That being said, we understand that players will feel frustrated to have their entire progress reset. We also understand that those who want to make videos/stream the latest content would have to start over. Therefore, we have prepared a save file that will allow you to start from the beginning of the 3rd stage in Mirabeol. This way, you can enjoy the new contents of the game, be able to make your build as you want, search for all of the treasure chests, etc. While this isn't the most ideal solution, it is the best one that we can provide at the moment.

Regarding this save file:
 • Stage 1 and 2 cleared
 • No Silver/Gold Chests have been claimed (go back to Stage 1 + 2, take down Elite monsters for keys, and search for the chests!)
 • No Corruptor's Memory Shards have been cleared (read more in the patch notes)
 • No Haetae have been discovered (so you can search for them in the event of not getting the Steam Achievements in your previous file)
 • No Engrams have been used (so you can make your own build and level up - you will start with a lot, so don't be alarmed by your level)
 • No weapons have been enhanced (so you can adjust your weapons in the event of not getting the Steam Achievement regarding enhancements)
 • Certain artifacts have been obtained due to necessity (via story progression up to the end of Stage 2)
* If you are new to the game, we highly recommend you to start from the beginning as using this save file will not clear certain Steam achievements automatically.

To download the save file, please download the file from the following link:

The save file also comes with a readme file explaining how to install the save file. We again apologize for the inconvenience and we ask for your understanding.

The First Major Update

This update brings massive improvements and exciting new content that the community has been asking for. While maintaining the core aspects of The Devil Within: Satgat, there has been a significant improvement to the overall gameplay experience, providing a smoother and more enjoyable time. The skills that you can learn through the skill tree have been restructured and re-purposed (and some new skills in there too!), so do check it out and see all the new changes!
Difficulty Levels Added
You can now choose the difficulty level of the game: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Try out each difficulty to see which is more your speed. Different difficulties provide changes in enemy health and enemy patterns, the amount of Engrams that you can obtain from defeating enemies, as well as timing of the parry/dodge/charge mechanic.
Stage Improvements
On the subject of stages, many areas have been altered and improved in order to build upon the exploration aspect of the game. Discover hidden secrets through the newly refined maps!
Weapon Distinctions - Choices Must be Made
Weapons have become more distinct! If you are having a hard time on generating shock in an enemy, then use swords that increase the rate of shock! A core mechanic that has been expanded upon is the shock system - bosses will now be able to generate shock so you will have the opportunity to use Soul Destruction and gain health!

Want to use your Concentrated Counterattacks at a faster pace? Then Cheonggang might be better suited for you! Try out different swords and see which matches your gameplay!
Accessories Added
To further augment your abilities, accessories have been added that can increase your offensive strength, reduce the damage taken, or even alter some of the item effects to your benefit. These accessories can be found all over stages in the game, some locked behind certain chests...
Powerful Elite Monsters
While previous versions of the game have had tougher monsters, this update will have special Elite monsters. Defeating them not only earns you an abundance of Engrams to fuel your growth, but also earns you Silver Keys to open chests with.
Mysterious Treasure Chests
Treasure chests have popped up in the world! Containing rare and powerful rewards, there are many for you to go find. These chests requires keys suited for them. As mentioned, you can find Silver Keys from defeating Elite monsters. However Gold Keys...
Corruptor's Memory Shard - Boss Challenge
Once you defeat a stage boss, you can find the "Corruptor's Memory Shard" located in front of the entrance of the boss battle. This will allow you to challenge the boss at different difficulty levels (1 to 9), earning you unique rewards depending on the difficulty (like Gold Keys). Some levels will require you to turn up the game difficulty level, but you can adjust it back after you reap the rewards! Prove your victory was no fluke.

Keep in mind that the Game Difficulty in the settings alters all levels of the bosses' health. Hard mode on level 1 has more health than easy mode level 1. Make sure to adjust the difficulty as needed!
Campfire Warp
Forgot something in the stage? Still looking for those adorable Haetae? After you defeat the first stage boss, Lee Choong, you will be able to freely warp between Campfires of the Netherworld! This will allow you to move around quickly within a stage without having to trek too much!
Haetae Statue Warp
Speaking of those Haetae, what if you forgot a Haetae in a different stage? What if you finally got some more Gold Keys and you want to get that chest from way back when? After you defeat the second stage boss, Devil Lee Choong, Haetae Statues will appear in each stage (including Mirabeol) and you will be able to travel to stages that you previously visited!
Refined Parrying System
The parrying system has been more refined. We resolved some issues where the timing didn't quite make sense or the animation didn't match the timing.
AP System (Stamina) Penalty Adjustment
You may have seen some teasers for this on Social Media, but the penalty for using up all of your AP has been reduced (meaning improved)! While before the update you were rendered immobile after being exhausted, this update will allow you to still move (albeit limited) and perform an emergency dodge!

We hope that this update further increases the quality and fun of the game. We are deeply grateful for your continued interest and support. As always, please let us know your feedback!
