The Signal Pre-Alpha Playtest Must-Knows

Hey Explorers!

Lots of news for you, so buckle up!

The playtest will be going live on Friday at 10:00 AM EST/7:00 PT. If you haven’t signed up for the playtest yet, well, whatcha waiting for!? Hop onto our Steam page and sign up using the playtest button. You’ll have until Tuesday 10AM EST/7:00 PT to play.

Here’s some MUST-KNOWS about the playtest:

1. Our team is in pre-production, so essentially, we are two whole years away from releasing. We wanted to get players involved in the creation ASAP so we could start making smart choices.

2. This playtest is pre-alpha, and intended to let all of you try out some of the game’s core features. However, the core features, art style, development pipeline, etc are all in the works and are subject to change!

3. Our team is 7 people total, we are small and mighty, but uh, also a bit nervous about sharing our baby with y’all. Please be gentle of the fact that real people are making this game, and we all have real feelings.

4. In ye ‘ol Discord, you’ll spot that we have somePre-Alpha playtest channels. Here, you can post bugs (please check the rules of the forum by looking at the pinned post), general ideas, and chat with us!

5. We’ll have more stuff coming your way soon. Our goal is always to be as transparent as possible with all of you, so we can’t wait to share what’s next!

Best,

Goose Byte

Pre-Alpha Playtest Sign-up

Hi Explorers,

A small, cool story for you: We're working on a pre-alpha playtest for some features in our game. The plan was initially that we'd gather 15-20 people, at best. Well, I'm happy to say, that we are now at a whopping 450+ sign-ups and a whole lot more of you in our Discord.

Our game is a few years away from being released, but we still want to start working with our community to build something incredible. If you're one of those players who loves a sneak peek, working with 7 scrappy game developers, or just seeing how the sausage gets made, then please join our pre-alpha.

Signing up at this moment is STILL POSSIBLE! It may not be in two days though, so join while you can!

Much love from our tiny but ambitious team. We're looking forward to making an awesome game with all of you.

Best,

Goose Byte

Fallout meets No Man's Sky in this sci-fi survival game

There's something incredibly satisfying about playing a survival crafting game that the setting can change dramatically without losing any of what makes the underlying loop so compelling. It's no wonder, then, that so many studios have set out to try their hand at it. A new indie studio called Goose Byte is working on one called The Signal, and it's about to head into some early pre-alpha testing - and you can get involved.

GDC & New Sneak Peek!

Hey Explorers!

As we mentioned in a previous Steam Update, Goose Byte has sent some of our team members down to San Francisco to participate in GDC this year. We’re happy to share that we’re being featured in The MIX and Kinda Funny’s Showcase this afternoon. Wanna check it out? Say no more! The live stream is happening today at 10 AM PST/1 PM EST on Youtube and Twitch. We’re amongst a killer lineup of other indie games that we’re sure you’ll enjoy. Happy watching and let us know what you think about the new sneak peek.

However, the showcase isn’t all we’re up to at GDC; you can catch our founder Theodor Diea on Monday March 18th chatting about The Signal with Greg Miller and the Kinda Funny crew. Here you can lay your eyes on our brand new demo. Should you also be at GDC, you’ll get a chance to play the new demo on-site with some of the other games shown in the showcase, so stop by the MIX/Kinda Funny’s booth or the Canada booth to say hi to the team and survival-craft your heart out.

We have a few more exciting things to share with you very shortly. Stay tuned for future transmissions.

Best,

Goose Byte

Post-DemoNights & Pre-GDC

We’ve had a great response following our presentation of The Signal's crafting feature at DemoNights earlier this month. One of Goose Byte’s game designer’s Kim Osborne pitched the feature live, then chatted with host Jason Della Rocca about where we are in the development process. A video of our segment has been packaged up a included below. Take a look!

TL;DW: Lots of stuff is still unannounced and it’s too early for us to talk about it! The best way to get the news first is to join the Discord – private Betas will open eventually, and our suggestion box is always open on the Discord. Share your thoughts on what looks cool, what you think we’re doing great, and what we can do better. Or maybe there’s something we haven’t considered at all? As Kim says in the video – what are your theories? Drop them into the Discord for sure. We would absolutely love to hear from you.

Looking to the future, we’ll be announcing and sharing more in the next few weeks. We’re sending some of our team members to GDC this year, and will have details coming very soon. In the meanwhile, we’ve been drilling down on The Signal – making features better and building the complex interactions that make this game and story totally different. That’s all for now, Explorers!
