Update to Version 1.2.2a

The "Grave Hunter" achievement was both working and not working, depending on how the player had handled the squid situation.

Now it should work in both scenarios.

Thanks to all the players providing feedback!

Update to Version 1.2.2

This update addressed the "Vanquisher" achievement.

IMPORTANT: If you have already defeated the Necromancer, you can get the achievement by simply returning to the library. If you want to fight the Necromancer again to get the achievement, you would have to start a new game. I am giving players both options.

I also updated the Quest Journal to be a bit more specific about certain quests. Some of the quests are a bit complex and I did not allot much space to describe them. In particular the quests dealing with the Library and finding the Kaba, as well as defeating the Jinn, since these quests share some of the same sub-quests. I hope it is more clear now.

Map Issue Resolved* AGAIN Version 1.2.1

So in the update 1.2.0 earlier today, I announced that mosques, caretakers and trainers should appear on the map now.

However, due to a slight oversight, while those entities did indeed appear on the map, they were not being saved to the map file, and would disappear after loading a game.

This update now allows the game to save those entities to the map file, so they should appear when you load a game.

Updated to Version 1.2.0

Firstly let me apologize for any confusion with this update. The update requires starting a new game. If I could have, I would have prevented this but alas, it was unavoidable.

However, if you really want to continue your current game, I have provided a legacy version 1.1.7, which you can access via: "Islands of the Caliph > Properties > Betas" and select "version1.1.7" from the drop-down menu.

If you really want to continue your current game in the updated game, this is also possible, but your maps may get messed up due to changes in the update. Scroll down for instructions on how to do this...
What's New?
Several new features and fixes have bee implemented.
Achievements
Steam Achievements are now active in the new version. 15 Steam Achievements are ready for you to enjoy.
Stair Issue Addressed
Some stairs in the game were exhibiting very strange behavior. I believe all of these have been fixed. You should be able to go up stairs without this weird behavior now.
Necromancer Bug
The Necromancer fight had a bug where it would disappear if you saved and loaded the game after the combat began, but prior to defeating him. This should now be resolved.
Torch Issue
The torch was having an issue freezing when passing between areas. This should no longer happen.
Map Icons
Some icons for mosques, caretakers and trainers were not showing up on the map. they should all now appear as intended.
How to Update your Game
If you really want to update your current game to work with the latest version, it is inadvisable. However, I don't believe it will cause any game breaking bugs. Your maps may get a little messed up if you do this, and I am not sure if or how it will work with Steam achievements, so please don't say I didn't warn you.

To do it, go to "C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Islands_of_the_Caliph\Save_*#*"

Where *YOUR USERNAME* is your actual username on your computer.
And *#* is the save slot number of your game.

Open your game folder and find the "save.txt" file.

In that file the first few lines will look like this:

SAVED GAME: 2,
Version 1.1.7,
INVENTORY,

Simply change the second line like this:

SAVED GAME: 2,
Version 1.2.0,
INVENTORY,

And then save the file. Now you will be able to load your old game in the new version.
Last Time
I do not like making promises I cannot keep. However, I do not foresee any other changes going forward that will require starting a new game. This should be the last time this is necessary. Map Issue Resolved* Version 1.1.7

I believe I have gotten to the bottom of the map issue.

Here's what was happening. Players would explore an area and map it out. Later they would come back to the area, but the map was disorganized and missing parts.

I found out that picking up certain items, especially books and some quest items (but not all) would reassign those items and they would be saved in the map file. This would offset all other map objects slightly, and cause the problem.

I have fixed the root cause of this, however there are conditions for seeing the benefits in-game.

1. If your map was already messed up, it will most likely still be messed up. Once that issue was introduced, there is no way to get rid of it other than deleting the map file (which is easy to do).

2. I have made some significant changes to the City of Shifa on the Isle of Hikma. This map will most likely get messed up if you have already visited it. Again, deleting the map file can resolve the issue if it concerns you, but obviously you would lose the map that is already there.
Resetting a Map:
To do it, go to "C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Islands_of_the_Caliph\Save_*#*"

Where *YOUR USERNAME* is your actual username on your computer.
And *#* is the save slot number of your game.

Find the "CITY_004.WMB_map.txt" file and delete it. This is for the City of Shifa.

I can provide a list of other locations for anyone who wants to reset other maps. But if your maps are messed up and you really want them to be working, just delete any file with these names:

RPG_0xx.WMB_map.txt

CITY_0xx.WMB_map.txt

Where xx is a number between 1 and 18.
