Here Comes A New Update!

Greetings Swordsmen! ⚔️

We hope that you have been well. As you sharpen your techniques, forge new bonds, and stride forward on your path to Wuxia mastery, we're excited to bring to you another game update (yes, one more)!

Here's a detailed breakdown of this update:
Controller Setup Optimization
• Optimized the default controller setup: Manual configuration in Steam's External Gamepad Settings are no longer necessary.
This optimization has been tested with Xbox, Beboncool, PS4, PS5, NS Pro, ROG handheld, and 8BitDo Pro 2 controllers. For other controllers not listed here, it should adhere to Steam's default compatibility guidelines.
  • For users using Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers, after connecting two Joy-Cons, navigate to Steam Settings>Controller>External Gamepad Settings and enable "Combine Joy-Con Pairs" before entering the game to ensure proper button mapping.
  • While we haven't made changes to key bindings at this moment, we're actively planning it for future updates based on your feedback.
Sparring Optimization
• Improved the item reward chances after sparring with NPCs. After reaching an affinity level of 20 or higher, you can challenge these NPCs to a spar, and a victory will grant you 1-3 items from their inventory.
Feature Optimizations
• Reduced the inn resting fee to 30% of the original amount, and introduced an additional confirmation prompt
  • Reduced the amount of coins and materials required to craft elixirs
  • Removed the 40 affinity requirement to activate the Serpent & Plum Liquor quest
  • Improved the rewards for the Deadly Scorpion quest
  • Modified Chen Linxi Martial Arts Challenge quest; now, instead of a game-over screen, you can rematch with him
  • Added auto health regeneration during consecutive battles in Chen Linxi's quest
  • Optimized certain martial arts techniques for Wei Cunxu at the Gusu Martial School and Liu Xin at Tan City's Three Mountains (Note: You need to restart from a save for these changes to take effect)
  • Adjusted the auto-trigger range for the Medicinal Monkey quest in Wutong Village
  • Fixed character positioning after completing the quest to locate the three poisonous herbs in Nanxiang to avoid restarting the dungeon
  • Added Fuling as a new gatherable item in Wild Boar Forest
  • Optimized tree placements in Monkey Forest for better visuals
  • Added an auto-save point before the boss battle in Biyou Forest
Bug Fixes
• Fixed an issue where after Chen Linxi's death, the Massacre Mystery quest in Pingkang City could still be accepted (If you have already accepted this quest, you might not be able to complete it. We'll add in an abandon quest option in future updates!)
  • Fixed an issue preventing the activation of a newly set inventory hotkey in keyboard custom settings
  • Resolved display issues causing the game window's title bar to appear outside the screen in windowed mode
  • Resolved issues where certain main and side quests didn't increase NPC’s affinity upon completion
  • Fixed an issue where Ye Fei would still be at Lianxin Lake even after missing his quest
  • Fixed an issue where Chen Linxi remained in the party even after his death
  • Fixed an issue in the 'Return to Pingkang' quest where talking to Mo Wen could prevent subsequent tasks from activating. Players experiencing this in their save files can reset the progression by entering and exiting Wudang Sect
  • Adjusted the descriptions for certain martial art techniques that were inaccurate
  • Removed the duplicate “on/off” options in the V-Sync settings
  • Fixed some bugs that could potentially crash the game

In addition, just a quick update on the feedback we’ve received about character orientation in battles, battle speed settings, and description font sizing. Rest assured that we are actively discussing and working on striking the right balance for these elements. We’re dedicated to ensuring your Wandering Sword experience only gets better and will keep you updated along the way.

Last but not the least, we just want to say that the last two days have been nothing short of a Wuxia epic, surpassing our wildest expectations. Your insights, suggestions, and steadfast support have been shaping our journey, and for that we express our deepest gratitude.

If you've enjoyed our recent updates and feel we've addressed your concerns, we kindly ask that you consider updating your review, especially if you previously left us a negative one.
Addressing Known Concerns
In addition, there are also some known issues that we would like to address:
Controller Mapping
We've been informed that controller support is bugged for certain users, which is making the game unplayable for them. Issues such as swapped button inputs, and non-responsive joysticks have been reported.

We're planning to enable accurate key mapping even if you don't disable certain settings in the Steam client, and also introduce various controller modes for everyone to choose from. As this requires time for us to design and test, please bear with us while we work on it - we will keep everyone updated!

In the meantime, if you are facing any controller button mapping issues, please try these workarounds to see if it solves the issue!
Just in case, please ensure to keep a save file backup before trying these workarounds.
Workaround 1: Adjusting External Gamepad Settings

- Navigate to Steam Settings>Controller>External Gamepad Settings
- Uncheck the options highlighted in the yellow box shown in the image below:

- Once done, restart the game to implement the changes.

Workaround 2: Disabling Steam Input for Specific Game

- Right-click on "Wandering Sword" in your Steam Library.
- Navigate to Properties > Controller
- Under "Override for Wandering Sword", set it to "Disable Steam Input".
- Then, go to Steam Settings > Controller > External Gamepad Settings
- Check the option: "Enable Steam Input for Xbox Controllers".
- Finally, relaunch the game.

A big thank you to Zleven for sharing this workaround with the community!

Workaround 3: Installing Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver

- Head over to Steam Settings > Controller > External Gamepad Settings > Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver.
- Install the driver.
- After the installation is complete, reboot your PC and relaunch the game.

A big thank you to CoffeeStainedShirt for sharing this workaround with the community!

Whether these workarounds were effective for you or not, your experience would help us as we aim to refine the controller modes, so please share with us how it went, and the controller you are using on this discussion thread!
Adjusting Character Orientation On The Battlefield
We've heard your feedback regarding character orientation during battle. We are actively working to enhance this, starting with allowing characters to automatically face enemies upon moving. Given the complexity and time required to craft detailed pixel art for different orientations, we're mapping out the most feasible solution to strike a balance and ensure the best experience for everyone.

We acknowledge the feedback regarding character direction after movement. We're actively working to enhance this, starting with an automatic face-off towards enemies post-attack. For those seeking more granular control, we understand the desire. Given the complexity, including creating pixel art for all possible orientations, we're mapping out the most feasible solution. Balance is our guiding principle, and we want to ensure the best experience for everyone.
Auto-Battle Feature & Battle Speed-Up Option
We are glad to share that an auto-battle mode is in our future plans! Concurrently, we're coordinating with our technical team regarding an option to speed up battles. Our focus is on delivering these improvements without compromising gameplay stability, and we'll keep everyone updated on this.
NPCs Sparring Reward System
As your Affinity with an NPC rises, the likelihood of receiving rewards when you spar with them will increase as well. When you have reached 70 Affinity, you are guaranteed to be rewarded with an item. However, we recognize that our current tutorial may not convey this effectively, and we're in the process of optimizing this aspect for clarity and better understanding.

We genuinely appreciate the time you've taken to share your experiences and feedback with us, as is crucial in helping us refine Wandering Sword every step of the way. Please continue to share with us your feedback, suggestions or any issues either here on Steam or through our Discord channel!

If you've enjoyed our recent updates and feel we've addressed your concerns, we kindly ask that you consider updating your review, especially if you previously left us a negative one. Your positive feedback is a tremendous encouragement and motivates us to continually improve. Thank you for your support!

But wait - before we end this article, we have a special treat to share. One of our players has beautifully reimagined our battle BGM through this violin cover! It's amazing to see our game music inspire such creativity. Do give it a listen and immerse yourself in the soulful strings that capture the essence of our battles!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Thank you once again for your unwavering support. Stay tuned for more updates, and keep your swords sharp! ⚔️
