Progress Report October 2024

What’s New in Saloon Simulator?

At Glivi Games, work is in full swing! The script is now in the hands of our voice actors, and they’ll be starting their recordings soon. After that, we’ll dive into implementing the voices in the game. We’re also testing new quests for Chapter Two, and there’s going to be a lot happening – with three new characters arriving in town, one of them making quite the unconventional entrance! Our graphic team is hard at work optimizing the game, aiming to make *Saloon Simulator* look great even on less powerful devices. And we’ve got some new features coming that are sure to spice up the gameplay and breathe new life into your saloon.
1. Faro – A Classic Gambling Game
What’s a Wild West saloon without some gambling? Have you heard of Faro? It’s a gambling game that’s mostly forgotten now, but it was wildly popular back in the day. In Faro, players try to predict which card the dealer will draw next by betting on its suit or rank.

In Chapter Two, you’ll unlock the second half of the saloon – and that’s where you’ll find a special room you can equip with entertainment. We’re starting with Faro, but we plan to add more game stations in the future. What should we work on next? Poker? Darts? Or maybe Bagatelle – the ancestor of pinball?
2. Meet Your New Companion – The Mule
As you may know from our previous devlog, we’re working on bringing horses to Blueberry, because what’s the Wild West without them? But while horses aren’t here just yet, let us introduce you to your new best friend for waste transport: the mule. You won’t have to run back and forth to the dump with every single trash bag anymore – just load up the mule’s saddlebags, and he and Charlie will take care of the rest. Handy, right?
3. Ladies and Gentlemen
In the prologue, the saloon’s clientele consisted mostly of men and Casey. But that’s about to change. We’ve added women to the customer pool, and they feel just as at home in the saloon as the men do. You’ll find them enjoying drinks, trying their luck at Faro, and even throwing the occasional punch!

Progress Report August & September 2024

Are you ready to sign a pact with the devil?

Dear friends! We’ve just finished working on the script and quests for Act Two of Saloon Simulator! The intrigue intensifies, and blood will be spilled. Someone will disappear, and someone will emerge. Something will explode, and someone will get shot. I can't reveal much more, but Act Two, especially its finale, will be packed with action like you've never seen in Blueberry before. Aside from the story and quests, we’ve also focused on implementing new mechanics—after all, Saloon Simulator is not just about the story but, above all, a simulator.
Trait System
From now on, each guest entering the saloon in Blueberry will have a set of 6 traits that will determine their behavior and what needs they’ll want to fulfill in your establishment. These traits are:

 • Thirst – Desire to order a drink
 • Hunger – Desire to order food (the hungriest guests might want to order a full meal!)
 • Sociability – Perhaps our guest will want to stay a little longer
 • Impulsiveness – High impulsiveness increases the chance of an aggressive reaction to a wrong order and a willingness to get involved in a fight
 • Wealth – Determines how much money they have and the size of the tips
 • Manners – Reduces the chance that a customer will leave a mess behind

These traits are influenced by the decor of your saloon—the furniture and decorations you choose will increase or decrease specific traits, allowing you to decide what kind of saloon you want to run. Maybe you prefer a peaceful atmosphere and enjoy serving beans to hungry cowboys? Or perhaps you'll buy the fanciest furniture to attract wealthy visitors? Or maybe you’re after quick profits, encouraging as many fights as possible to rob (and bury in the backyard) the defeated with Casey? Now, the kind of saloon Blueberry Saloon becomes is entirely up to you.
Renting and Furnishing Rooms
In the prologue, you could enlist Earl’s help in renovating one of the upstairs rooms. Furnishing and renting out rooms will become a key part of making money in the later stages of the game. In Act Three, courtesans will enter the scene, giving you a cut of their earnings in exchange for the rooms where they’ll invite their clients.

Earl will remain your best friend when it comes to renovations. To start your hotel business, order furniture from him (you'll need at least a bed to rent out a room) and choose which room he should renovate.

Once Earl finishes the work, wait for the first guests looking to rent a room. When a guest leaves, don’t forget to clean up before renting it out to the next person!
Skill System
Through the skill system, we wanted to show how much our hero, Cheyenne, grows as a bartender and in other, less obvious aspects of the game. Cheyenne will improve his skills by completing story tasks and earning new achievements along his bartending journey—after all, every bartender knows that while a rookie might make one drink, an experienced one can easily whip up at least five.
Behind-the-Scenes Bonus
I’ve saved a little behind-the-scenes bonus for the end since this work is still in its early stages. But I thought I’d let you know because we’ve received a lot of questions about it. Yes, we know. Doesn’t something very important seem to be missing? Don’t worry—we’re working on it. The symbol of the Wild West—a horse—will soon be galloping through the streets of Blueberry!

Progress Report June & July 2024

Dear Saloon Managers,

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you for participating in the playtests, playing our prologue, and sharing your feedback on Steam and Discord. We have read all your comments, and now more than ever, we understand the direction our game should take. We also appreciate all the bug reports and ideas, which we are currently discussing in our weekly brainstorming sessions. Our last month has been spent fixing bugs in the prologue and planning the upcoming months of work. Despite this focus on planning and bug fixing, we have managed to implement an entirely new mechanic - train unloading. We've also been working on increasing the variety of clothing for our customers and continue to develop new quests that will await you in Blueberry.
New Mechanic - Train Unloading
With the arrival of Postmaster Peabody in town, you will be able to take on a special mini-quest that unlocks periodically. When a freight train stops at the station, you will need to locate the appropriate crates in its cars and unload them within a limited time. If you manage to unload everything, Peabody will arrange for the next passenger train to make an emergency stop, filling your saloon with visitors for the next few minutes.
New Clothes for Customers
As trains stop more frequently in Blueberry, newcomers from the city will start appearing in town. Their higher social status will be evident from their well-kept and clean attire. Over time, as the town grows, residents will adopt a similar style. Right now, we have only male customers, but our 3D artists are already working on creating female customers, and we will showcase their work soon.
Continuing the Story
In Blueberry, there will always be work to do and mysteries to uncover. Shortly after the events of the prologue, new characters will appear in town - carpenter Addie and Postmaster Peabody, who will oversee Mr. Lock's interests in the town. One of the first quests you will undertake in the next part of the game is helping Sam find the "stolen" parts of his gold sifting machine. Once the machine is up and running, you will see for yourself if there is a nugget of truth in Sam's tales.

Progress Report - April & May 2024

Hello future Saloon owners!

We have some thrilling news to share: the first chapter of Saloon Simulator is coming soon! Let’s dive into the exciting updates and improvements we’ve made over the past two months.
Bug Fixes and Optimization
In preparation for the Prologue release, our team has been laser-focused on squashing bugs and optimizing performance. One of our developers, Kuba, shared a particularly pesky issue he dubbed the "Schrödinger's Piano Stool Problem." This stool, intended for our saloon's future musician, was temporarily removed from the game. However, the customization function still tried to find skins for this non-existent stool, causing crashes whenever we attempted to replace furniture or decor. Thanks to our diligent testers, we quickly identified the bug, but tracking down its cause was a real challenge.
Localization
We're committed to making Saloon Simulator accessible to players worldwide. The full version of the game will be available in English, German, French, Turkish, Italian, Korean, Polish, Japanese, Spanish, and Russian. We're currently testing these translations. Although the Prologue will feature machine translations for now, this is to ensure our interface handles different alphabets smoothly.
Achievements Galore
We love achievements, and we know you do too! Our team brainstormed 18 exciting new achievements, and our talented artist, Jagoda, created beautiful icons for them. Our programming team has successfully implemented these into the Prologue, adding another layer of fun and challenge to your gameplay.
All Aboard the Train
The train is the only civilized way to reach Blueberry. In the demo, you heard it bring Sheriff Custer to town, but its visual model wasn’t ready yet. We’re currently working on a fully functional train for the Prologue, complete with two new mechanics that we’ll reveal in future devlogs.
Full Voice Over for All Characters
We’re thrilled to announce that all characters in Saloon Simulator will have full voice-over! Our game places a strong emphasis on narrative, with characters who have their own goals, motivations, secrets, and problems for you to help (or hinder). To help you connect more deeply with our NPCs, we've been working on fully voicing their dialogue over the past few months.
Join Our Discord Community
We warmly invite you to join our Discord community, where we can chat, share ideas, and hear your suggestions. We’re eager to hear your thoughts and feedback, which will help us make Saloon Simulator even better.
