Terror: Endless Night News

Greetings, travelers… and survivors.

[p]Tonight, as the polar night tightens its grip, we invite you below deck to uncover one of the most crucial systems in Terror: Endless Night - the struggle to keep your crew alive.[/p][p][/p][p]Aboard a ship imprisoned by merciless ice, every heartbeat matters. The cold gnaws at flesh, the darkness drains hope, and dwindling food supplies whisper threats of starvation. Your crew’s health is not just a statistic, it is the fragile thread holding the fate of your expedition together.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
The forces that shape their survival
[p][/p][p]• Food Rations🍋🥖🍖[/p][p] A fuller bowl brings strength and morale… but every portion spent is one you may never replace. Will you feed your men generously, or stretch every crumb to survive the long night?[/p][p][/p][p]• Temperature 🧊[/p][p] The cold outside is absolute — indifferent, unstoppable. But within the ship, warmth is yours to command. The furnace’s glow is hope incarnate, yet every spark demands precious coal. How much comfort can you afford?[/p][p][/p][p]• The Burden of Duty ⚒️[/p][p]Not all work weighs the same. Those who venture onto the ice, breaking frozen seas, scouting the unknown, pay with their health. Those stationed by the furnace or in the galley live a little longer. Rotate them wisely… or watch them wither.[/p][p][/p][p]• Madness and Misfortune 🔥[/p][p]Isolation breeds paranoia. Fear festers. Terrible choices follow. Punishment, accidents, outbursts — each can scar your sailors, leaving them wounded or marked with illnesses like torn wounds, further pulling them toward the abyss.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
When illness takes hold
[p][/p][p]As health wanes, sickness creeps in.
A weakened sailor may fail at heavy tasks… or collapse entirely.
You may send the sick to the infirmary, but beds are few, and medicine is scarce. Every decision becomes a moral weight:[/p][p]Whom will you save?
Whom will you sacrifice?
What price will you pay to keep the expedition alive?
[/p][p]In our next devlog, we’ll guide you through the infirmary itself and reveal the diseases that stalk your crew in the dark.[/p][p]But remember this above all:[/p][p]If a sailor’s health falls to zero, their story ends - claimed by the ice, the cold, or your decisions.[/p][p][/p][p]Survival is not guaranteed.
Only earned.

Loyalty Amid the Frozen Madness

[p]Greetings, sailors. ⚓[/p][p][/p][p]Today we’d like to introduce another key gameplay system in Terror: Endless Night — the Loyalty System.[/p][p][/p][p]Relentless cold, encroaching darkness, and the crew’s growing madness are only part of the challenges you’ll face as the captain of HMS Chione. Your crew is trapped in an icy prison, far from home, surrounded by eternal night. It’s only natural that, at some point, they may begin to question their captain’s decisions.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]❤️ Loyalty — fragile and fading[/p][p][/p][p]Each crewmember has their own Loyalty indicator.[/p][p]Many factors can affect it:[/p]
 • [p]Your decisions as captain[/p]
 • [p]Madness events[/p]
 • [p]Ration distribution[/p]
 • [p]The ship’s internal temperature[/p]
[p]These are only a few examples of what may cause Loyalty to fall.[/p][p]Officers, for example, due to their training, will lose Loyalty more slowly — though certain events or choices may affect them specifically.[/p][p]A single disloyal sailor isn’t a threat on their own… but when dissent spreads, a group of angry men can become a deadly danger to the Captain.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]⚖️ The balance between madness and obedience[/p][p][/p][p]As Captain, you’ll often have to choose what you believe to be the lesser evil.[/p][p]Will you allow madness to spread if it keeps the crew obedient?[/p][p]Is it better to protect the sailors’ sanity — or their loyalty?[/p][p][/p][p]Perhaps a crew consumed by madness but blindly loyal is easier to command… even if their actions grow unspeakably cruel.[/p][p]Or maybe you prefer sane, rational men — who might start questioning your every order.[/p][p]Or… can you walk the thin line between both extremes?[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]✊ Mutiny — when faith breaks[/p][p][/p][p]Average Loyalty aboard HMS Chione is calculated from the Loyalty of all living crewmembers (excluding those you’ve personally thrown in chains).[/p][p]If this value drops below 50%, there’s a chance that Mutiny may occur.[/p][p]When a mutiny breaks out:[/p]
 • [p]If more than half the crew is disloyal, you will be overthrown and executed by your own men — in ways that may not be quick or merciful.[/p]
 • [p]If the loyalists prevail, the rebellion will fail — but you must then decide the fate of the mutineers:[/p]
 1. [p]Execute them all[/p]
 2. [p]Kill only the leaders[/p]
 3. [p]Punish them with flogging and branding[/p]
[p]Each choice comes with consequences.[/p][p]Executing everyone ensures that only the most faithful remain — their loyalty strengthened by fear — but it might leave you without enough men to even keep the ship running.[/p][p][/p][p]🧊Walking on thin ice[/p][p][/p][p]This dynamic system will force you to tread carefully — both morally and strategically.[/p][p]In Terror: Endless Night, leadership is not about survival alone…[/p][p]It’s about holding on to power when both the cold and the minds of your crew turn against you.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

When Madness Takes the Helm

Greetings, Sailors. ⚓

Today, we’d like to expand on the topic of madness and the terrifying events connected to it in Terror: Endless Night.
As we mentioned in our last devlog, the sailors aboard HMS Chione must battle the creeping insanity that seeps into every corner of the ship. This manifests through Madness Events — situations where you, as the Captain, must make difficult choices, each with its own moral and mechanical consequences.

Every event is told from the Captain’s perspective — your voice, your judgment, your burden.
Let’s take a closer look at two such events.
⚓ Overboard
“One of the men broke several bones today after leaping off the side of the ship straight onto the ice, screaming that he was sacrificing himself for our salvation. I believe the effect was quite the opposite — the crew’s anxiety only grew, especially among those who had to collect his shattered body from the ice.
What worries me more, however, is the Chaplain, who tried to justify the act, claiming the sailor acted like Jesus. The others said nothing… but I’m certain they disagreed.”

As Captain, you must decide how to respond:
 • Condemn his actions — this will increase crew loyalty toward you but anger the Chaplain Mike Thompson, one of the ship’s key officers.
 • Praise his sacrifice — this will raise the Chaplain’s loyalty but reduce the crew’s overall trust in your leadership.

No matter your decision, madness aboard the ship will grow, and the injured sailor will be hospitalized, unable to work for a long time.

But such an event is only the beginning of the horrors lurking in the minds of your crew...
💀 Demons
“Early this morning, the entire ship awoke to screams.
In the pitch-black corridor below deck, we heard not only cries of agony but a dreadful, almost joyful roar. When I arrived with my officers, the sight was unspeakable.
One of the sailors stood there, swaying in a trance, his axe dripping with blood. Around him lay two crewmates — slaughtered with unimaginable fury.
The killer sobbed that he had slain demons who came for his soul. But those ‘demons’ had human faces, and now their skulls were split open like rotten pumpkins.
Stranger still — the shards of one skull seemed to jut upward, like jagged pieces of ice.”

Such a horrific event demands a decisive response from the Captain.

You may choose to:

🔫 Execute the murderer immediately
“I couldn’t allow the corruption to spread. Two corpses were enough.
I drew my revolver and, ignoring his pleas, fired straight into his face. The shot echoed through the deck — blood and brain matter splattered across the crates behind him.
His body fell with a heavy thud. I hoped it would serve as proof that only the Captain’s iron will can keep this ship from falling into the abyss.”

⛓️ Isolate him from the crew
“What that man saw was real — to him.
In this darkness, truth bends easily.
I ordered him shackled and locked away.
But soon, sailors began gathering outside his cell, listening to his ramblings — descriptions of demonic claws and frozen skin. Some even took notes.
I pray no one believes that within his madness lies the key to our salvation.”

❄️ Use the bodies as a warning
“I ordered the mutilated corpses dragged onto the upper deck.
The murderer, stripped and bound, was forced to look upon his deeds.
Guards stood watch, ensuring every crewmember passed by the grim display.
Hours passed in the freezing wind before frostbite took his hand — along with the demons from his mind.
Let all see the price of madness.”

Each decision will have different effects on crew loyalty and the madness level aboard the ship.
Some choices may hold the insanity at bay… others may only feed it.
But the outcome — and the burden — will always rest with you, Captain.

How to Survive the Madness?

Greetings, Travelers. ❄️

In our previous devlog, we talked about how vital the HMS Chione is — the only thing standing between life and death in the frozen wasteland. But keeping the ship afloat is not enough to survive in Terror: Endless Night.

Our crew is trapped in ice during the endless polar night. Sailors must live and work surrounded by absolute darkness and bone-freezing cold — conditions that slowly chip away at their sanity.

Each crewmember has their own Madness Meter.
Every day, it rises — a reflection of the unbearable environment aboard the Chione. But your decisions as Captain, combined with random events and weather conditions, can either worsen or relieve the growing insanity.

When a sailor’s Madness Meter passes certain thresholds, they will acquire a so-called Madness Perk — traits that affect not only themselves but also their companions.

For example:

The “Speaking in Foreign Tongues” perk will cause co-workers madness to rise faster.

The “Monster Within” perk may trigger a special madness event — a gruesome act committed by the afflicted sailor.

The more unhinged a sailor becomes, the stronger — and more dangerous — their Madness Perks will grow. Madness spreads like frost, consuming the ship from within, threatening not only the success of the expedition but the lives of everyone aboard.

And madness doesn’t only affect individuals.
As the overall level of madness rises, HMS the Chione itself begins to change — its appearance grows darker, the atmosphere heavier, and even the music gets more sinister to reflect the creeping insanity taking hold of the crew.

The polar night hides many horrors. But the greatest of them all may be what festers in the human mind...

Survival. Desperation. Darkness.

[p]Ahoy, sailors! ⚓

Not long ago, we announced that work on Terror: Endless Night is still underway — and we have many thrilling, chilling updates to share with you in the coming weeks and months.

Our ship, HMS „Chione”, was sent out in search of HMS „Erebus” and HMS „Terror”. On November 2nd, 1847, she became trapped in the ice during the endless polar night. „Chione” is the only thing standing between the crew and the bone-freezing cold and the horrors lurking in the dark.

As the captain, you must fight to keep the ship in working order. Only by maintaining the „Chione” will your crew have a chance to survive the polar night and escape the icy prison. The ship will suffer damage from the relentless pressure of the ice, the freezing temperatures — and sometimes, from the actions of the crew themselves, whether intentional or not.

You’ll need to send and manage icebreaking teams, ensure proper temperature control by maintaining the furnace, and dispatch repair crews to fix the damage on board. Only the right allocation of your crew and careful management of these tasks will keep the HMS „Chione” afloat.

[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]

Chione” is also the home of your entire crew.
Lower deck is the home of the furnace room, a crucial area that keeps everyone alive. Nearby are the storerooms with food and supplies, and additional berths for the sailors.

Above that deck are the crew quarters, where key figures such as the Researcher, Colonel, Chaplain, and Doctor reside. The Doctor also oversees the sickbay, where injured and ill sailors receive treatment.

Higher still lies the mess hall, the heart of the ship’s social life — where sailors eat, drink, and share moments of respite. On this level, the Steward and Captain also have their cabins.

The upper deck, covered in snow and ice, is shrouded in darkness. Guard shifts patrol the ship, watching not only for any signs of life or hope — but also for dangers hiding in the night. Around the vessel, icebreakers toil in the freezing winds, breaking apart the ice that threatens to crush the ship.

It is your duty, Captain, to ensure that the HMS „Chione” survives this terrifying night — in a condition that allows her to sail again.
