Robber Knight News

Week 4 - Simple patch notes + quickpeek in what is to come

So - for game destroying bugs, that is it. Not counting the building system that we are making much bigger and smoother, there are only some minor bugs left. So GOOD news - time for content updates.

But the content updates, to make it fascinating for you, will take us more time - to check and prepare. So we are switching to a Biweekly update period. But starting with the CO-op update.

So the next update will happen between 2-15 September 2022, ofc. But I will continue to post a note every week on Friday with things that are coming.

Why you need so much time for the next?
What is coming with the CO-OP update
- CO-OP (with password protected lobbies)
- New Map
- Bigger (many new pieces for the modular part) and smoother building system
- New premade buildings
- A lot of decorative items
- New Textures (I cleaned up everything properly, so you should not have problems on older PCs)
- More human life on map (more caravans etc.)
- The villagers will have their routines
- More quests
- Quests and Knowledge journal with how to do what in game (In journal)
- New weapons
- Better guides for the player, and difficulty areas. But less inviting for I WANT IT NOW type of people.
- And some surprises from the work-in-progress list and community-request list
- New building materials

5 types of stone-type building material: Brick, Granite, Slate, Sandstone, Limestone

5 types of trees: elm (for bows, ropes), birch (health brews, tar, tableware, furniture, coal), Pine (Buildings), Poplar (Furniture, little buildings, barrels, Spruce (shields, fortifications)
Even more less inviting for I WANT IT NOW type of players.
We are not here to make tons of money. Maybe it will happen, but it does not matter. We are here to make a game - that people who are engaged in our project will love.

And by reading those of you who are really engaged (The majority, of course, not 100%). You would like to have more layers of the crafting - leveling system. More decisions into what shall I pick to get what I want etc. etc.

So if you are a type of player - I started the game - I want to beat a knight in full armor and burn a village. Sorry, this is not a place for you. This is or rather will be a place for old school gamers - with patience, willing to make up a plan, build a camp - and then decide how to get to it. Our hope is that we will - install some of this virtues in younger people.

But we will move the knights in the more difficult areas. We just thought that it is pretty obvious, even without a skull flying over his head. That a knight in a full plate armor was a mighty opponent at this time and on level one(1-20) you will not be able to beat him. We are willing to learn and change all the time. Despite the fact, some of you might consider us dinosaurs as we started our gaming carrier on something called Amiga.

If of course we have misinterpreted your wishes - tell us right away - we started so early, so we can be fully flexible and grant your wishes true.

Week 3 – 2600 knights joined our cause + 4 quests and a lot of fixes

2600 Knight joined our cause

First, we would like to thank you for your support. 2600 people is a small medieval town. We are very happy that so many of you, would like to be a part of creating a great medieval game.

All your good comments and words of encouragement are very important to us. As it helps us to push forward, getting better, fix and work faster on new stuff. Yes, as nerdy game-developers may seem, we have feelings too.

We are of course aware that some of you feel disappointed at this moment, but don’t worry. Next year you will see what a good investment you made when you will have hours and hours of fun and medieval adventure to experience. We are gamers too, so we understand your „anger”.

But please Remember we are on the first phase - 15 August - 15 October: Feedback and idea gathering + bug fixing

If you read our store page, you would know what awaits you for now. Yea I know. I never read an offer on Steam too.

Don’t worry. We will finish this game and make it great, and we are ready for troubles on the road. And we see and are very grateful that many of you are so willing to help and put your hearts in it. THANK YOU, fellow knights and princesses!

Players creativity makes our heads pop

Despite the fact there are still 3 months to the castle updates – some of you shared really cool buildings on our discord. As I always say - and I am still living in a shack :(

Time for: Patch notes –

NEW

The story update is scheduled for next year, but we will throw in some quests now and then

+ 4 quests (Franz, Bolko, Ludomir)

FIXED

-  3 slots for autosave – that means you will have 3 saves and there is much less possible for you to get into the death-save loop even if you forget to save by hand – which is very recommended.

- Trees and collectibles do not regrow in buildings anymore (Grass still does)

- Blocking works

- Animals do not get stuck on trees anymore

- Audio settings remember by your game

- If you have full inventory, you will not be over encumbered when the weight is below your limit

-The effect of over encumbered disappears also when you sell stuff under your max weight

- It also updates when you add points into strength

- No more two prices for axe in stone anvil

- Equipment –  equipped still weights. (yes, we know you will hate us for it)

- Stone anvil does not show options from other buildings anymore

- No more dark overlay on the dialogue menu

Changed

- Increased experience from crafting actives (not everyone wants to kill and rob)

- The iron tools now have much more durability than the stone ones

- Armour weights a little less

- Deers are a little weaker

Next update 19.08.2022. With the next update, the demo will be updated too. It is now missing two updates.

Week 2 – A little more player friendly, co-op and new map info

A little more player friendly

We saw that many players just turn off the game – because they say there is not enough content even for EA and on the other hand we have people playing 20-50 hours, building castles even though the castle update is still not here. So we asked ourselves what is wrong?
1. Skill tree.
The unlocked blueprints were hidden behind the names, so the player did not know there are swords, armors and tons of buildings waiting for him to be unlocked.
Now there is a full list to every skill – with an explanation why it is worth unlocking.
2. The campfire
It appeared a little under the ground to force the player to learn to use the hints in the right bottom corner of the screen. Well, it did not work.
„The game is broken, I cannot place my campfire anywhere.”
Message received. So on flat ground you can insta built it. So you can learn building adjusting later, when you sunk deeper into the game's world.
So we hope these two little things will help you. Get a little more engaged with our game.

Co-op info

The co-op is postponed to 15 September. We know you all wait for it. But as we said in the previous article.

„First fix your mistakes than add new things”

And this time we really want to withstand the pressure. And check everything properly.
2. We are still working on the password protected lobbies.
We know we cannot start without it, because that is one of the worst feelings on earth. To lose your great camp or items gathered for the best armor to a troll attack. And that would happen for sure.
We don’t want you to go through this.
And 3. A new map, new items, new design, more parts to the building system
As you requested there is a new map coming, new design of many things, especially buildings, and many improvements and additions to the building system.
So in other words, there is a WIPE coming. So launching the co-op just to take your house away in a few weeks does not sound right to us.

So please be a little patient. We have a plan for it. We will do it step by step. Furthermore, we know pushing too hard is not a good idea in games. Sometimes it might get boring when you have already 20-40 hours in game. But hang in there, we will deliver.
IDEAS
So we are on week 2, and we have already 50 pages of ideas from our community – what our player would like to see in game
https://discord.gg/Vy3amSjDfT - hop into our discord and share you with us. Until end of September we gathered ideas, and we will announce a plan of bringing them into live over the next 2 years.
Patch notes
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1887020/discussions/0/3416556480590273755/ - Here you can find what was changed/fixed this week

Week 1 - We share the same dream

Thank you

We want to start with a big THANK YOU. For all of you who are supporting us here on Steam and on our Discord. Means a lot to us to have people around us, sharing the same dream and that is

Build a medieval simulator with a world to live and fight in.

Our sincerest apologies

For the game breaking bugs the first week. And thank you again for your patience and help with hunting those down. As it may sound funny, we feel like we have learned a lot during the last week, and we hope you have the feeling we improve fast.

This is our first game, so mistakes will happen, but we are committed to it, with all our hearts.

The Dream

The dream is the only reason we started so early. We want to share it with you and make the game as much as you want it to be, as possible. And some of you probably already noticed we are here 200% - invested in talking with you, gathering feedback and ideas.

https://discord.gg/Vy3amSjDfT - Hop into our discord and be part of our growing community
Or talk to us here on the Steam forum.

Changes

New level designer, new approach, probably little changes to come in the road map.

We are reacting as fast as possible to all your feedback. As a developer and as a publisher.

We hear your requests for new graphics and map. So I decided to join the team of Medieval Bytes to help them. I am no master but after building an open world for 2 years, I have some sort of idea, how to build maps. I will need some time, though. To get my head around it.
Slower but better - important
We have asked someone very important from the gaming industry how he would approach things. He said

"Always fix things first before adding new stuff"

After talking to you in discord - we know the majority of you shares this opinion. So how we will approach

1. Fix all bugs that are in this version
2. Add your requests like for example:
Hot bar scrolled with mouse wheel, 3rd person, controller support)
3. Add new things.

That might mean some features will be available a little later. Like co-op. We don't want to fail again like on the premiere day. You have to learn from your mistakes.

Your biggest concern

After you decide to join us - the most frequent concern is

" Please do not abandon the project"

We understand the EA market is nasty. But your money, time and hopes are safe with us. Why?

1. We are very passionate about making this game. We love what we do, we love medieval games, and we love to make them. Furthermore, we would love to stay around for a very long time, not just one game.

2. Before we decided to leave our secure IT jobs, we made sure we have enough money gathered to finish the game, without even 1 copy sold. We started so early to get you engaged in the process, but every new copy sold, helps us make the game better :)

3. For us, abandoning, a project half way, after people paid for it, is the same as downloading (stealing) a cracked copy of a game. It is theft. And we would feel very, very bad about it for the rest of our lives.

What we have fixed already

The list is super long :)

Thank you for your time and support!

We wish you a great weekend,
