It has been nine months since we announced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and now, we enter the final stretch before the game is in your hands. The monolith looms ever closer...

We set out to craft the game of our dreams—a passion project built by a small team of RPG fanatics, artists, musicians, and friends. Now, with the build locked, that dream is real. Our focus is on polishing every detail before we hand it over to you.

There has been so much to celebrate on this journey already, but the biggest moments are yet to come. We can't wait to see you experience our story, our characters, our music, and our gameplay for the first time. And we can’t wait to share those moments with you.

Meet Maelle (voiced by Jennifer English), the youngest member of the Expedition. A shy loner, eager to fly. Orphaned at age 3, Maelle has never felt at home in Lumière. She has difficulty connecting with and trusting others, but has come to appreciate her foster brother Gustave.At 16 years of age, Maelle is significantly younger than her fellow Expeditioners. Unlike them, she views the Expedition as her chance to explore the world beyond Lumière and finally forge her own destiny.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will release on April 24, 2025 on Steam.

Meet Gustave, the resourceful and dedicated engineer from Lumière.

Gustave grew up feeling suffocated by the Paintress’ constant presence. He has dedicated his life to the city’s defense and agricultural systems, striving to protect and provide for his people.
Now, as an Expeditioner, he devotes his final year of life to defeating the Paintress and reclaiming a future for Lumière’s children.

This is the first in our weekly series of character trailers, which explore the gameplay and motivations of the key members of Expedition 33 as they set course to destroy the Paintress... so that she may never paint death again.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Preview—A Melancholy Mission

At a time when so many new games fall into a handful of overpopulated categories, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 immediately stood out from the crowd upon its reveal at last summer’s Xbox Games Showcase. Its gilded Belle Époque aesthetic was immediately captivating, while a rumbling voiceover established a unique premise: in a world where a magical sorceress can magically exterminate all citizens of a certain age, the latest mission to put an end to her tyranny sets out on a hopeless voyage.

Now having spent four hours embroiled in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s world firsthand, I can safely say that Sandfall Interactive is living up to all of that promise.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a game that dodges definition, in many ways. At first blush, its turn-based combat looks like shades of Persona 5, with its stylish UI showcasing button prompts. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 system requirements

What are the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 system requirements? Following its reveal during the Xbox Games Showcase in 2024, much hype has been built up around Expedition 33, but it now looks like you might need to consider an upgrade or two for your gaming PC to meet the recommended specs.

While you won't need the best graphics card to run Clair Obscure Expedition 33 on high settings at 1080p, an update or two could be warranted if your gaming PC is already starting to feel sluggish in modern games. That being said, the newfound trap of minimum requirements only being good for 720p gameplay isn't present here, so even if you only meet those, your gameplay experience will be fine.
