Let's School is Part of the Triple-i Initiative! | First Dev AMA & Giveaways

Hello Headmasters!
Ask Me Anything - March 2024 Edition
If you have been following up with our official announcements lately, you might be aware of our growing presence within the community, with constant dev logs, game updates, and more.

We hope you read and enjoyed these community updates, since we're a small team and it took a lot of our efforts to make it happen. The whole community update is pointless without the support of all our headmasters.

To get back to our topic. One of the things we always wanted to do is to answer player's feedback and make it into a Q&A session, so not only we can be more involved with our community, but also the team could use it as a platform to share our vision for the future.
As a result, we're excited to present our first-ever AMA article, available in our official Subreddit!
Note that the below questions/feedback were gathered in mid-March, from the Steam discussion forum, as well as our Discord feedback channel. If you haven't found your feedback, it might be because it's either too old or left over due to the text limit.

Additionally, to get everyone excited for the upcoming Reddit events, we would like to announce a Steam Gift Card giveaway! Simply follow our subreddit and leave a comment in the Reddit AMA post. We'll select 3 lucky participants, each with a $10 USD Steam Gift Card!
Let's School is Participating in the Triple-i Initiative
Another thing we would like to share with all our fans is that Let's School will be participating in the upcoming Triple-i Initiative on April 10th 10 AM PDT.

What news are you expecting from us in the showcase? Let us know in the comments below!

Behind The School #2 - Performance Update

Hello headmasters!

We hope you're having a great time with the Spring Sale and the March update! As mentioned in the March update patch notes, the team has managed to optimize the performance of the game, especially for headmasters in their late-game campaign. Today in this episode of Behind The School, we would like to run you through some of the detailed optimizations and how we made it happen.
Increased Department Map Efficiency
Firstly, we found that players are experiencing an increasingly complicated department structure, especially in many mid to late-game scenarios. The large amount of sub-branches in the department map could potentially result in lags and longer loading times.

To tackle this problem, the team has taken the time to simplify the sub-branches while optimizing the algorithms behind the creation of these sub-branches.

Thanks to this adjustment, headmasters can now enjoy a smoother late-game experience, as long as a quicker entry to the department map panel.
Furniture Rendering Optimization Within The Building Structure
In the past builds, a smooth gameplay experience was largely challenged by the heavy use of glass, structures of various colors, as well as colored roofs by building enthusiasts. This is because the system backends did create a lot of objects that are semi-transparent or in various shapes, which resulted in a much longer rendering time.

However, in the latest update, the efficiency has been largely improved by consolidating the furniture rendering batches through Instantiated Rendering (GPUInstance). We suggest all headmasters to return to your school and see if the experience is more smoother than it was before!

As we can see, the setpasscall went from 1900+ to 600+ now
And CPU main thread overhead reduced from 40ms+ down to 20ms+
Increased SSAO (Ambient Occlusion) Efficiency
Ambient Occlusion is crucial for achieving a realistic visuals. However, such feature usually comes with an additional rendering cost.

Upon evaluating all possible options, the team has decided to skip the NormalPass rendering while switching to the AO algorithm for a faster processing speed.

At the end, we would like to thank all headmasters for your continuous support on this game!

To be honest, game optimization is a challenging task and the team is taking all steps possible to improve the player experience while developing new content for this game.
Please stay passionate and patient for Let’s School as we move forward, with exciting news to unveil in the coming months!

Behind The School #1 - Club Optimizations

Hello headmasters,

We're so happy to see you all enjoyed the new club gameplay and provided valuable feedback since the introduction of the school club system back in the Lunar New Year this February.

And after reading through all of it, we've decided to set the tone for the March update to be around the club system optimizations, in hopes of providing a better experience to all our headmasters.

We would like to explain the core changes coming into the club feature, in the form of a dev update called the 'Behind The School'. It's a dev-focused blog post series that highlights the Let's School game development, with insightful stories and a place to express our thoughts to all the headmasters who care about this project.
And don't forget to follow our Reddit community now, where you can expect regular dev updates, monthly AMA sessions, exciting community events from us coming very soon!

1. Simplified Student Growth Within The Club Structure
One of the biggest changes we made this time is associated with the club strength. Since the initial update, we've found that many players were confused by the Guard, Vertical Jump, Ball Control stats and their relationships with the club strength in the basketball club.

To address this problem, we've decided to simplify the training process by removing these exclusive stats completely out of the basketball club (and other future clubs), so that headmasters are now able to link student training directly with the club strength.
2. Detailed Breakdown On Club Talent
Many players have also been commenting on the unclear club talent stats, without knowing how it was calculated. Therefore, a detailed breakdown of the club talent stat has been added in this update.

The club talent stat is one of the main factors that effect student's speed of growth during club activities. Determined by a variety of attributes, the club talent stat can be increased by improving student stats in related fields.

For example: Basketball Talent = Physique + Sports Knowledge Point + Height
3. Adding Team Position Bonus
To emphasize the importance of various team positions in the field and provide a more diverse gameplay strategy, a new position bonus is now added on top of the student's existing club strength when the student meets certain criteria.

With this change, it is now crucial to allocate students in their appropriate positions for an extra layer of competitive advantage.
4. Optimized Club Activity Panel
Student Aptitude: To make it more clear and direct, the 'Student Aptitude' display are now optimized with breakdowns of each related sources

Training Schedule: The UI for the tranining schedule has been moved from the left to the top of the screen. We've optimized the information displayed in this panel to be more clean and simple.

Edit Member: Added an edit member option, which allows headmasters to edit club members during the time of the club activity, a better way to navigate the training sessions.

And if you watch it closely, you'll find that the club members will not only come to the club activity sessions in period five, but also their leisure to train and gain extra knowledge points.

An important thing to remember, all these adjustments have been made without effecting player's current club progressions. Meaning that all club strengths, members, and rankings in their current save file still remain unchanged.
We would like to invite everyone to check out the new version and let us know what you think of these changes!
Do you enjoy the dev update in this form? Let us know in the comments down below :)
And just a quick note, not only the new update is out, Let's School is also currently participating in the Steam Spring Sale, with 25% off limited-time offer!
