Mafia: The Old Country launches today; please refer to our Global Launch Times post to see the exact time when it will be available for your region.[/p][p][/p][p]Uncover the origins of organized crime in this gritty mob story, set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily. Fight to survive as Enzo Favara and prove your worth to the Family in this immersive third-person action-adventure set during a dangerous, unforgiving era.[/p][p][/p][p]Mafia: The Old Country players who have previously launched any of the Mafia: Trilogy titles while logged into the same 2K Account can expect in-game rewards for their loyalty, which you can learn more about in this article*. Even if you're new to the series, all players who sign up for and log into the game with a new 2K Account can earn additional in-game rewards for Mafia: The Old Country, which you can learn more about on this page*.[/p][p][/p][p]We also want to share a sincere message of gratitude from the team at Hangar 13 to the entire Mafia community, whether you're just joining the Family today or you swore an oath of Omertá when the original game launched way back in 2002: [/p][p][/p][p]"It's hard to believe it's been nearly nine years since Mafia III. So much has changed for us at Hangar 13, and as we reflect back, we're proud to say that one thing has stayed constant: our love for developing cinematic, narrative-driven games.[/p][p][/p][p]We believe there will always be a place for these types of experiences in our industry, as we saw first-hand with the reception to Mafia: Definitive Edition. We were reminded just how much we love to create this style of game, and how much you—our fans—love to play them. [/p][p][/p][p]We're thrilled that Mafia is back! And not only is it back, but Mafia: The Old Country represents a bold return to the franchise's roots. It's a linear, cinematic experience driven by character and story. Most importantly, it's a mob movie you can step into and play out, just like every Mafia title that came before—and it's best enjoyed spoiler-free, so we ask players to please honor the code of silence and preserve the narrative for others to play through at their own pace.[/p][p][/p][p]So, on behalf of all us at Hangar 13, thank you. Thank you for your support, your passion, and your dedication to this series that means so much to us. We hope you enjoy the game."[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]

Mafia The Old Country review - a familiar story, well told

A lot of mob stories are formulaic by design. The audience meets a criminal protagonist, watches them rise from street-level thug to a position of wealth and power, then sees their inevitable fall from grace. Despite their predictability, the movies, TV shows, and videogames that stick most closely to this well-known formula can still offer emotional resonance, nuanced cultural insight, sheer entertainment, or some resounding combination of the above. It's how a mob story is told that really matters, in the end.

[p] [/p]
Can you play Mafia: The Old Country offline?
[p][/p][p]On PC, you'll need to be connected to the internet the first time you launch the game, but in most instances beyond that, Mafia: The Old Country is entirely playable offline. Two exceptions to this are:[/p]
 • [p]If you significantly change your PC hardware between play sessions, an online connection may be required the next time you launch the game.[/p]
 • [p]After downloading game updates (which alter the executable file), an online connection will be required upon the next launch. [/p]
[p][/p][p][/p]
Can you freely explore the map in Mafia: The Old Country?
[p][/p][p]While Mafia: The Old Country is a linear and narrative-driven experience, some missions will offer the freedom to take your own route toward objectives. In other words, similar to Mafia and Mafia II, you'll be given opportunities to freely roam through a detailed and lived-in world.[/p][p]The game will also include an Explore option at launch, meaning that once you've completed the Prologue, you'll be able to find collectibles, spend your in-game currency on new items, and take your vehicles and horses for rides around the environment. We have plans to expand this feature via a free post-launch update, more information about which will be revealed at a later date. [/p]
Are there collectibles in Mafia: The Old Country?
[p][/p][p]Throughout the game, you may find collectibles that give you insight into the world of Mafia: The Old Country such as Notes, Newspapers, and Saints’ Cards, as well as opportunities to take Photographs. Others may offer rewards such as Trinacria which can be exchanged for Dinari, or Charms, which can be equipped to Enzo's rosary to grant bonus perks and abilities. And keep an eye out for a Mysterious type of hidden collectible... [/p][p] [/p]
Is there a Photo Mode in Mafia: The Old Country?
[p][/p][p]No, Mafia: The Old Country will not have a dedicated Photo Mode at launch. However, there are specific moments in the narrative during which Enzo is encouraged to take photographs with an antique camera, often to capture shots of scenic Sicilian vistas that contribute to the guided collectible system mentioned above.[/p][p][/p]
How do knives work?
[p][/p][p]There are three different classes of knives in Mafia: The Old Country.[/p]
 • [p]Scannaturi: These knives have lower durability but can be thrown.[/p]
 • [p]Rasolu: These knives allow for one-hit kills during active combat.[/p]
 • [p]Stiletto: These knives have the highest durability.[/p]
[p]In addition to the above distinctions, some knives come with special perks, like healing Enzo after a takedown. You'll unlock new knives with different perks as you progress through the story, and knives can be purchased from two NPCs, Pasquale or Valerio, then equipped at their shops or at weapon boxes.[/p][p]Only one knife can be carried at a time, and all knives have limited durability that's consumed by special actions like lockpicking, quick stealth kills, knife-throw kills with Scannaturi knives, or one-hit kills with Rasolu knives. The durability of your equipped knife can be restored using whetstones which can be found around the world.  [/p][p]Regardless of durability, your knife is always available as your basic melee attack. It's a great option when an enemy gets too close or if you’re trying to preserve ammo. The basic melee attack isn't as quick or stealthy as a silent takedown, but it’s lethal nonetheless.[/p][p]As for knives unlocked via DLC, players can equip DLC knives starting at Chapter 2 after meeting Pasquale. These come with special perks and advanced attributes compared to other knives within the same class.[/p][p] [/p]
Is stealth optional in Mafia: The Old Country?
[p] For most of the game, stealth is entirely optional and just as tactically viable as charging into enemy encounters guns-blazing. However, occasionally, there will be gameplay sections that require Enzo to remain in stealth for narrative reasons.[/p][p][/p]
How does the in-game currency work in Mafia: The Old Country, and what can you spend it on?
[p] The in-game currency that Enzo can acquire strictly through gameplay and spend on in-game items is called "Dinari." It can be used to purchase guns, knives, outfits, cars, and horses, as well as alternate styles for some of those items. Dinari can be looted from enemies, gained from opening lockboxes, and earned in other ways throughout the story. There are no microtransactions in Mafia: The Old Country, and you cannot acquire Dinari with real-world money. [/p][p][/p][p][/p]
How do vehicles vary?
[p] Vehicles in Mafia: The Old Country vary across a number of categories. Each has a listed Weight (kg / lbs), Power (kW / bhp), Top Speed (km/h / mph), and Transmission type (2-, 3-, and 4-Speed), as well as stats for Acceleration, Braking, and Grip, each measured on a five-point scale.[/p][p][/p][p]Vehicles are unlocked by making progress in the story, purchasing them with the Dinari currency at a Garage, via downloadable content packs, or by signing into or linking your 2K Account in-game (full details here). Additional styles for vehicles can be purchased with Dinari from Pasquale's store in-game. [/p][p] [/p]
Are horses unlockable and customizable too?
[p][/p][p]Yes, similar to cars, players can purchase and ride horses, as well as change their tack in stables. Some horses and tack will be unlocked through gameplay as the story progresses, and more of each will be available for purchase with Dinari throughout the game too. Also like cars, horses will have different stats such as "Endurance" or the number of times they can be spurred for a speed boost.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]Mafia: The Old Country launches on August 8, but there are still reveals to come before this gritty crime drama is finally in your hands. Stay tuned for even more new info, and if you haven't already, there's still time to pre-purchase the game on Steam. [/p][p][/p][p]
