Islands & Trains News

New and improved demo now live!

Hey everyone,

Since we last posted, we’ve been hard at work on the main game and improving the demo you previously played. We listened to all your feedback, came up with some new ideas of our own, and are now ready to show you what we’ve been cooking up :)

Available right now, the demo features:

🗺️ A larger 50x50 square map
📖 Improved tutorial
🏪 New Buildings Inc. a Townhall, bakery, swimming pool and an alpine cabin
🎨 Colour customisation for buildings and trains
🚂 Talking of trains, there are new trains to bring your island to life
🐄 New animals. And yes, you can pet them!

We’d love to hear what you think, so please do give the new version a go and let us know!

But that’s not all. We’ve also been planning out new things we want to add to the game. We’re not going to spoil everything right away, so we’ll be covering these in more detail in upcoming posts but here is a little teaser...

🛣️🌊🌻🚨🚃⚽🎛️

See you if you can guess what they might be.

Thanks again for being so supportive. We really hope you enjoy what we’ve been working on, and we can't wait to share more with you in the future

Hugs to all of you 🧡,
Akos & Fabian

Dev Update - Mass building & removing implemented

Greetings !
We know, we know.

We have been doing a terrible job at keeping you in the loop.
We truly want to apologize for that.

----------------------

To make up for it, we want to share with you one of the bigger features we really worked hard on for Islands&Trains in the past months. It, rightfully, has been one of the biggest criticism about the building.

*drumroll*
You no longer have to click individually to place terrain or anything else.

Yes, you read that right !

You can now just make a selection and you will get your piece of terrain instantly.
This will surely make the creation of bigger levels (which, let's be honest, all of you want) much much more joyful and healthier 😆

As you can see, you can use the same idea to remove huge chunks of your creation, all at once.
If you start your selection on the ocean layer, everything gets removed. If you start on your terrain, only these portions get removed.

This can work with whatever asset we see fit.
E.g. if you want to build big forests you can either make the selection or you can hold the mouse button and just paint your trees naturally.

It's 3D Bob Ross 🥰

Thank you for being so supportive and understanding through our journey so far. We really hope you will embrace what we have worked on in the past year and we can't wait to share more with you in the future.

We are doing our best to get this game into the most bestest shape we possibly can.

Hugs to all of you 🧡,
Akos & Fabian

Islands & Trains is featured in TinyTeams Festival 2023 ! NEW DEMO available

We are so happy to announce that Islands&Trains has been selected to be in the TinyTeams Fest 2023 by the lovely folks of Yogscast Games.

The even is running from August 3rd 6 pm BST to August 10th 6 pm BST.

The focus is on indie games where their development teams consist of 5 or less people - so given we're only a lovely bunch of 2, we fit in wonderfully :)

Just in time for the launch of the event we have released a brandnew demo that offers TONS of new contents and usability improvements.

We can't wait to see, what you will create with this !

Indie games will appear on the Tiny Teams sale page, but they also will be streaming games throughout the week on Steam and Twitch.

Be sure sure to check them all out and show your love & support during this delightful festival !

Demo update (increased level size&terrain height, TUNNELS, wagons & much more)

Hello everyone !

We are so excited to announce the release of our new demo !
We have worked so hard to implement lots of new content for you to enjoy.
Increased level size and terrain height levels
You can now build PRETTY big levels in Islands&Trains and we have tripled the terrain building height, as well which should give you plenty of freedom for all kinds of lovely builds
TUNNELS
Omg yes, we now have a first iteration of tunnels in the game. The UI experience is a bit clunky in places but you can build straight and curved tunnels and watch your train travel through it.
Plus: you can even build terrain on top of the tunnels !
Castles
Among many many new assets we have implemented a series of castle pieces, which you can use to build something like this:
What else ?
• New train engines and wagons
 • Waterfalls
 • Buildings
 • Track pieces
 • Animals
 • and and and
What is next ?
Now that we put so much new content in and changed the game significantly in scope we want to focus on improving the usability. We know that it can get quite exhausting to click once for each terrain piece, so we will adress that in the future so you can really go big and still have a smile on your face instead of a look of desperation.

We will also overhaul the controls and camera since we have to take into account how big you can build now and sometimes you have areas where you can't look into, depending on how high you have built.

Thank you for support and patience during the development of Islands&Trains and we hope you enjoy these updates !

Steam Base Builder Fest 2023

FIrst, some good news !
We got accepted into Base Builder Fest 2023 !
From 23rd-30th January, you can dive deep into our cozy sandbox builder and relax by creating some wonderful dioramas.
For this special occasion we rolled up our floppy sleves and worked on a snow theme for the game.
On top of that you have new assets (including an actual bridge crossing - yay !) and much more space to build upon. Also your build gets saved & you can't accidentally delete your level by pressing R anymore !

We hope you share news about this snowy demo with all of your friends and tell them to wishlist Islands&Trains, if you haven't already, since that is the best way to support 2 small developers liks us :)
