Update 0.3 | Crafting

[p]Greetings Carants, [/p][p][/p][p]Have you ever sat there looking at your hat and thought to yourself ‘man, this could really be improved with some gizmos and gadgets’ while sighing dreamily at a concept within your mind? Well— okay, we don’t have anything that can conjure the exact image you’re picturing right now, but we do have a new addition to the game: gear crafting and upgrading. No longer are you constrained to merely creating items to use in combat and heal yourself – you can now fashion weapons of war to unleash upon your enemies. [/p][p][/p][p]And with crafting comes more power. And more power means looking at your (not always so) feeble enemies in their eyes as you beat them up. It also gives you more choice and customization in your playstyle, allowing you to take things a step further.  [/p][p][/p][p]There are various subjects at hand here, so let’s get into the meat of things, shall we?[/p][p] [/p]
The Workbench
[p]With great crafting comes great bludgeoning my enemies to death.  [/p][p][/p][p]A gameplay element available in the first GreedFall, you’ll see it make its return on the 17th of November with Update 0.3’s release. All you’ll need to do is find one of the many workbenches strewn around the world, go up to it, and then select the option you need. [/p][p][/p][p]Want to upgrade your weapon? No problem. Simply pick the weapon you want to improve, make sure you have the required crafting level and items, and then customize it as you please. There are multiple options when upgrading, so make sure to go through them all and pick the one that suits you the most. Add more crit, physical damage, health, or even bonuses such as burn scourge to help you in your battles.  [/p][p][/p][p]It'll even change its appearance depending on your selection, so not only will you overpower your enemies, you'll also do it in style. [/p][p][/p][p]Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.[/p][p][/p][p]Do keep in mind, however: while some weapons, such as swords, come with two customization slots, some others, such as guns and bows, only have a single slot. Rarity also impacts this aspect – both common and legendary weapons hold no upgradable slots.   [/p][p][/p][p]What power will your weapon hold? What choices will you make? Or will you simply close your eyes, quickly scroll through, and leave it up to the powers that be? Either way, the workbench calls, awaiting your decision... [/p][p][/p]
A Craftsman's Life
[p]Its power level! It’s over 9000! [/p][p][/p][p]Perhaps a weapon has reached the end of its usefulness and must depart to the great trash pile in the sky. But before you toss it into a bin, consider recycling it for materials you can use to upgrade and craft weapons – it'll give a beloved weapon a new chance at life. And if you’re missing a few items? You’ll find the tracking option of great use as you scour the lands. [/p][p][/p][p]There’s also, of course, the craft option. Have you unlocked a new weapon recipe through upgrading your talent, finding them in the overworld, or by purchasing it from a merchant? Then is the place to craft it and create the axe, bow, or more of your dreams. The more powerful they are, the more points you’ll need in your crafting talent, so make sure you’ve got the required level beforehand. If you do, then it’s yours for the taking.  [/p][p][/p][p]Finally, a worthy opponent! Our staredown as I debate which weapon I want will be legendary! [/p][p][/p][p]What if you don’t have the required craftmanship? You can always ask a blacksmith for help. They won’t be able to craft everything and will ask for a fee, but if you need an extra hand, they’re always there.  [/p][p][/p][p]Now, go forth with your freshly crafted weapon of mass destruction and show your enemies why messing with you is a thought they’ll soon regret.  [/p][p][/p]
What's Next?
[p]“Would you lose?” “Nah, I’d win.” [/p][p][/p][p]This is just a small preview of the update to come. We have a lot more to show over the upcoming weeks, and we look forward to sharing everything with you. As for next time? We’ll take you to the gates of a beautiful city, your next in-game destination...  [/p][p][/p][p]Follow @greedfall and join the discussion: DISCORD X REDDIT FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM[/p]

Dive in: Thélème

[p]Greetings Carants!  [/p][p]In this edition of our lore deep dive, we talk about Thélème - a religious faction you’ll surely know all too well from the original GreedFall. A huge thank you to the art team for providing the art shown in the post below: it's a feast for the eyes! [/p][p]Now prepare yourselves, Carants, and come seek enlightenment with us. [/p][p][/p]
A RELIGIOUS LAND
[p][/p][p]A theocracy ruled by priest-mages of the clergy, holding both political and spiritual authority, Thélème is a deeply religious nation. The inhabitants worship their one God, the Enlightened, whose word was spread to them by Saint Matheus, the legendary founder of the nation who taught them how to manipulate light magic.  [/p][p]Their religion affects every facet of the people’s lives. Their political hierachy is based on aptitude for magic and faith more than the circumstances of the person’s birth, yet political intrigue is nonetheless common. A powerful nation, supported by their magic wielding priest-mages, they’re a fearsome foe to behold. [/p][p][/p]
HOLY WAR
[p][/p][p]Their foreign policy is centred around converting other nations and spreading their religious beliefs: by doing this, they gain both spiritual followers and allies, for no follower of the Enlightened would dare raise a hand against Thélème.  [/p][p]Notable converts are the Deutan Empire, and parts of the Congregation of Merchants; however, the Bridge Alliance sees Thélème in a negative light due to their encroachment upon their land and repels their spreading influence with steel, therefor plunging the continent into an endless war.  [/p][p][/p]
THE PROPHET
[p][/p][p]Priests teach that before their nation was a man: Saint Matheus. The first graced by the blessed light of the Enlightened, he passed down this Holy knowledge to disciples and taught them how to worship Him. Yet when the end of his life approached, he boarded a ship with his two most devoted disciples to bring the light to new lands. One disciple, Lucius, later returned and shared a testimony of Matheus’ travels – after much time passed at sea, he landed on an island and converted the natives, creating a land of perfection. [/p][p]Believing the island to be related to one of their founding legends and noting the resemblance to the one described in Saint Lucius’ texts; the place Saint Matheus would’ve finished his days, Thélème colonists arrived on Teer Fradee around 10 years ago. Convinced that redemption and the cure for Malichor can only come from a total conversion of its people, they start their exploration of the island.   [/p][p]There is some truth to their legends. Saint Matheus did, in fact, set foot on this land. That said, it seems he found a new source of inspiration in En on míl frichtimen – something the Thélème clergy would never accept.  [/p][p][/p]
SUBFACTIONS
[p][/p][p]There are also subfactions within Thélème: The Ordo Luminis and the missionaries.  [/p][p]The Ordo Luminis are the most fundamentalist of the three, acting as the inquisition. Somewhat secretive, they aren’t opposed to using violence and torture. It was apparently founded by Saint Gregorius, a disciple of Saint Matheus who stayed behind in Thélème. [/p][p]Vocal in their search for new disciples and with a purist view of the Enlightened, they’re also zealous when it comes to their tasks – hunting down those deemed heretics and ungodly cults. You witness this yourself in GreedFall 1 when they burn a Nadaig at the stake and murder a native in front of your very eyes.  [/p][p]The missionaries make up most of the clergy, primarily concerned with converting others. For centuries, this mostly applied to the continent. With the discovery of Teer Fradee and the founding of San Matheus, they had to change their approach. Unlike other factions, they have a reputation for being adept diplomats and naïve. Appealed by the extreme methods of the Ordo Luminis, they have a different vision of how Thélème should spread its influence.  [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Now locked in a near-perpetual war while the Malichor ravages their land, an illness even most of their holy healers are powerless against, Thélème has weakened. Despite that, it persists in trying to extend its sphere of influence, particularly on Teer Fradee. [/p][p]You can expect to meet them again in GreedFall 2 through Fausta, a companion who’ll quickly join you and fight by your side. There’s also a new, highly secretive subfaction making the rounds. [/p][p]That’s all for this theocratic nation. Next up comes Thélème’s traditional ally: The Deutan Empire. A nation torn apart by a war within, they make their grand appearance in GreedFall 2.  [/p][p]Follow @greedfall and join the discussion: DISCORD X REDDIT FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM[/p]

Dive in: The Bridge Alliance

[p]Greetings Carants!  [/p][p]It’s that time again. Today, we delve back into the lore of the factions within the game: this time, the Bridge Alliance. Marching forth with a thirst for knowledge in their hearts, they make their grand return in GreedFall 2. [/p][p][/p]
Forged by War, Bound by Science
[p][/p][p]A group of nations under one banner, the Bridge Alliance is formed by three: Thynea, Thraxis, and Morsinia. Created 200 years ago to resist Thélème’s ever-growing religious imperialism, a nation with whom they’d warred for centuries, they hoped it would create a more effective resistance against their would-be conquerors. Their capital became Al Saad, home to the Alliance Council and their most prestigious universities.  [/p][p]Doing so would provide boons outside of a united front - the economic, cultural, and military prowess they gained transformed them into one of the most powerful states on the continent. Gaining both a technological and scientific advantage, highly valued within their nations, putting the Alliance at the cutting edge of technology.  [/p][p][/p]
An Island Discovery
[p][/p][p]All members of the Alliance have retained their own political structure: Morsinia is a parliamentary monarchy; Thynea a meritocracy; Thraxis an elective monarchy once tributary to Thynea. Each sends representatives to the Al Saad assembly, where all decisions affecting the alliance take place.  [/p][p]Seeking to further their knowledge, they were the first nation to settle on Teer Fradee since the Congregation's failed attempt. A city, Hikmet, was constructed and ruled over by Governer Burhan. From there, they spread out over the island as their exploration began.  [/p][p]Stunned by the flora and fauna, scholars were dispatched to study them in the hopes they’d find a cure for the Malichor plaguing their people. Not only that, but they also hoped it would replenish their depleted finances, eaten up by their endless war with Thélème. [/p][p][/p]
Of Questionable Ethics
[p][/p][p]That said, when it comes to ethics, their devotion to science is often their downfall. One such example, Doctor Asili, falls prey to intrigue and begins kidnapping natives to experiment on in far-flung labs. Believing he can use them to find a cure for the Malichor, he later discovers they’re immune to the disease when he feeds them the blood of the sick; however, when trying to discover the reason behind their immunity, his sole reward is death after his test subjects perish from exhaustion.  [/p][p]But this is just one of the Alliance’s inhabitants – not all share the same views, some of whom will join you in game.  [/p][p][/p]
Revolts and Advancement
[p][/p][p]Being home to so many scholars allows a far greater grasp of science and technology compared to the rest of the continent. Thynea in particular is a shining example of a country where they abound.  [/p][p]Once ruled by archons elected by the nobility, revolts eventually spread across the land and caused their downfall. Following this, a constitution is created in its place, allowing its citizens to vote by region. They vote in several Logists from amongst the Sages, who then mostly act as administrators for their region. Because of this, the country is essentially governed by assemblies of scholars, philosophers, and occasionally the military.  [/p][p]Competitive examinations are also held throughout the country each year, allowing all citizens to prove their knowledge and obtain the title of sage.  [/p][p][/p]
Trouble Brewing on the Horizon
[p][/p][p]Now, there’s whispers of a fringe yet growing faction within the Alliance. Imperialist in nature, and tired of the war ravaging their home for centuries, this faction seeks to build a Bridge Empire. With the aim of a unified empire, ruling over both the continent and the islands, they’ll stop at nothing to achieve their goals.  [/p][p]You’ll encounter this faction during your travels across Gacane. How are they involved in the story? Only time will tell. As for the next lore post, we’ll be entering a land held by this Alliance’s rivals: Thélème. Are you ready to seek enlightenment?  [/p][p]Follow @greedfall and join the discussion: DISCORD X REDDIT FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM[/p]

GreedFall 2 | Choices

[p]Greetings Carants, [/p][p]What else could have you sat in front of your screen, frozen in indecision other than... decisions? The ‘evil’ choice is in front of you, and this NPC has done enough to warrant it, but part of you can’t help but hesitate. Can you really pick this dialogue option? What if the NPC swears revenge on you and tries to take out your family? What if they pull off the hurt puppy-dog look?  [/p][p]What a conundrum. Yet, it’s one you’ll experience in game (assuming you’re of this inclination and don’t want to see the world burn). Today, we delve into some of the places where you can make these very decisions. [/p][p]Your honour, my next piece of evidence is ... my attorney’s badge! It’s proof I’m an attorney.  [/p][p]Your choices, of course, impact the various quests themselves. When travelling across the world of GreedFall 2, you’ll come across various NPCs in need of help. Paths, both hidden and visible, will then present themselves to you – will you solve the quest through stealth, diplomacy, exploration, or will you take matters into your own hands and force your way through?  [/p][p]Uplift characters as you free them from their burdens or watch them crumble as you expose their darkest secrets to the world. You can even leave them sitting at the bottom of a pit they fell into if you so please.  [/p][p]Some of you may die. But it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.  [/p][p]Companions, your ever-judgmental friends, will approve and disapprove of your actions depending on how you react, resolve the quest, or speak to someone. Careful not to be submerged under disapprovals or it might end badly! Or perhaps, in all your chaotic genius, that’s what you want to achieve...  [/p][p]In the spirit of a beloved rpg character, Nilan greatly disapproves.  [/p][p]These aren’t the only places where you’ll find yourself thrown into making choices. Companion quests also ask you to make decisions that will decide the fate of your companions. Ignore them or lend a helping hand, and watch their stories play out before you.  [/p][p]This is just a small peek into what awaits you. Who knows where your journey will take you? The choice is in your hands – so pick what calls to you and witness the outcomes unfold before your very eyes.  [/p][p]Speaking of where your journey will take you. Here's a WIP of an area the team is currently working on... [/p][p][/p][p]Follow @greedfall and join the discussion: DISCORD X REDDIT FACEBOOK INSTAGRAM[/p]
