Update 0.2 | Olima: City of Stars and a new companion

Greetings Carants!

We have a lot to go over with you in the run up to the next patch’s release on the 27th of March. So, hold onto your hats, and get ready for a plethora of exciting information!

A new area to explore


First, we’d like to welcome you to Olima, City of Stars.

Located within the ancient country of Thynia, a land held within enemy hands, this will be the next stop on your adventure across Gacane and provide you with brand new twists and turns as you try to find the reason behind the woes and ills befalling your people...


A vast new area ripe for exploration and with plenty to see, the malichor ravages parts of this bustling city, the already derelict locations it consumes falling deeper into disrepair. You’ll come across various vistas scattered far and wide, such as the harbour, the science laboratory, and, of course, the tavern; enemies and allies lurk within many of these, and how you’ll handle them falls on your shoulders.


Not only will you get to explore the city, you’ll also be able to head out into the wilds surrounding it.

The fauna in these areas will present their own challenges, so be careful where you step, Carants – You never know what might surge out of the tall grass for a fight!


Of course, this all comes with a continuation to the main storyline, as well as additional side quests to give you a deeper look into the world you find yourself in. What will you discover there? And where will it take you? Only time will tell.



A new companion joins the party!


Along with this new area comes a new companion – Safia, a member of the Bridge Alliance. She arrives on wings of wisdom to aid you and your party on the perilous journey across the continent.


Anti-imperialist at heart, Safia is a seasoned explorer with a curiosity for the world around her. Her age and experience help keep her grounded, and with it, comes wisdom beyond compare ( though she doesn’t flaunt it ).

A happy woman, content with the life she’s led, she now chooses to join you and help fight back against the growing evil that lurks on the horizon.


Assisting the team using rifles and her own, personal skill tree, Safia’s also ready for battle. Unleash a variety of support skills to help you or your fellow team members in combat, tearing victory out of the hands of your enemies and gifting them the bitter taste of defeat.

She might also be willing to teach you how to handle a rifle too...

GreedFall 2 | Answering your questions about the next update

Greetings Carants!

First, we'd like to apologise for the silence on our end. These past few months, we’ve been working on the next update and had trouble keeping up with the Early Access timeline, developing the game and delivering the content on time, while incorporating your feedback and continuing developing the world, story and universe of GreedFall 2.

We took the time to reflect on our shortcomings and readjust the way we’ll move forward together to meet your expectations.

Thank you everyone for your patience and support, it truly means a lot to us.

We know you have pressing questions about the next update and the Early Access and we’re here to answer most of them.


When is the next update coming?

The next major update will release on the 27th of March.

What content does the next update bring?

The next update offers a varied amount of content, including:
  • The continuation to the main storyline;
  • A new region and its biome: Olima, City of Stars;
  • A new companion;
  • The new Hub system;
  • The start of the companion quests;
  • New weapons and skills;
  • Improved combat system;
  • Bug fixes, and more.

We’ll go into more details on these topics in upcoming posts, so please look out for them. To begin with, you can expect more information on the new region and companion tomorrow, and until the update’s release on the 27th of March we’ll keep you updated.

Will we keep our save in the next update and between major updates?

No, as previously mentioned, saves won’t be kept between major updates. Each time we release one, your progress will be reset. Due to compatibility issues this will also apply when the game fully releases.

Will Early Access continue?

Yes, Early Access will continue; however, we will be making some changes to its format. Our main goal remains delivering the best game possible and ensure you have a good experience with it.

What does this mean? This means the number of updates during the Early Access will go from 4 updates to 2 bigger updates and some content will be moved around. March’s update will be the first of the two, with one update remaining afterwards.

We’ve weighed all our options, and though it was a hard decision to make, this change will allow us to make each update more meaningful and impactful. It will also allow us to focus on improving the game and give us more time to guarantee that the content we deliver is of high quality.

As stated above, our priority remains developing a game that you’ll enjoy when it fully releases.

Will the game be released on consoles?

Yes, it will be available on consoles too when the game fully releases.

Why a closed beta?

Earlier this year, some Early Access players participated in a closed beta, providing feedback on the next update’s content. The goal was to make sure the update met your expectations before rolling it out to everyone.

After reviewing your feedback on the experience the game provided at launch, we identified critical aspects which needed improvement. The closed beta was a way for us to add the last touches to the final version of the update to ensure everyone would have a smooth experience and be satisfied with its release.

So far, we’ve received encouraging comments about the update, and we hope you’ll all enjoy it too.


Once again, we’re aware we’ve not been up to par and the delay didn’t help. The goal of the Early Access was to develop the game with the community, and we have miscalculated how much content we could handle at the same time. As it’s our first time developing a game in Early Access, the past few months have been a learning experience, helping us refocus.

We’ve learned from it, and now more than ever, we’re committed to continuing this adventure with you in a more consistent and manageable way.

Community Update #8 | Update 0.2 Beta Testing

Dear carants,

In our last community update, we announced a change of plan for the game's next update following your feedback and the issue with Alvida’s actress. Since then, we've made good progress on the first major update and, to make sure we're on the right track and in line with your expectations, we asked a small group of players from our community to take part in a closed Beta Testing. The goal was for them to give us their feedback and report on the progress of the improvements and changes made.

So far, the feedback we've received from this group of players has been encouraging, even if there are still some aspects we need to work on. All the comments made, both positive and negative, will help us add the finishing touches for update 0.2 so that it can be rolled out to everyone next.


Then, when can we expect the release of update 0.2?

Unfortunately, for now we can't give you a release date. We can, however, inform you that a final test version is going to be ready within two weeks. Depending on the level of satisfaction of our teams and the Beta Testing group of players, we will be able to give a date for the update which will include new content, such as:
  • The continuation of the main quest which will lead you to the new region - Olima,
  • A new companion,
  • The Hub feature,
  • The start of companion quests,
  • New weapons and skills to use,
  • New regional quests,
  • Improved combat system which will be more reactive and user-friendly, in particular with the addition of:
    • More responsive close combat attack controls,
    • Quicker start and longer range for attacks,
    • Faster animations when you start and chain attacks,
    • Close camera with lock system for real time combat,
    • Improvements in switching and selecting targets,
    • Tactical skills to give group orders,
    • Better visual feedback for damages and effects,
    • Improved UI and new icons,
  • And more...


Can I also participate in the update Beta Testing?

For the next update, this is no longer possible. However, for future updates, considering the interest and quality of the exchanges we’ve had, we're already planning to expand the group.
To be able to participate, you can join our Discord server where we'll be announcing when the next Beta Testing is coming.

In the meantime, we’ll see you next week to find out more about the new region, Olima, and what's in store for the next update.

Community Update #7 | End of the year and onwards

Dear carants,

As the year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to talk to you about GreedFall 2 and reflect on our journey so far.

A lot has happened since the start of Early Access. We are still as thrilled today as we were when we embarked on this new adventure, embracing a format that’s as new to us as it might be to you—Early Access.

It’s been a challenging but rewarding experience. While some aspects hit the mark and were widely appreciated, some didn’t, but we expected it. More importantly, we remain committed to building a great game alongside you and listening to your invaluable feedback every step of the way. While there’s much we’re excited to share, some news will have to wait for the right time.

As mentioned in our last Community Update, we have decided to delay the release of Update 0.2.
This decision allows us to focus on implementing significant improvements and fixes based on your feedback. These include the combat system—which is as important to you as it is to us—the UI, character customization, optimization, and many other aspects.

Most of the changes we want to implement will take place gradually. As they need substantial work, Update 0.2 will only be the first step towards this end goal. We’re looking forward to sharing these improvements with you when they’re ready.

We also encountered an issue with recording Alvida’s lines during development. Sadly, for reasons out of our control, the original voice actress couldn’t record anymore, and we needed time to assess and find a solution. We recently met a new voice actress with whom we’ll start recording Alvida’s lines again. It also means we’ll have to record all her previous lines to ensure the voice doesn’t change in the middle of the game. So, you can expect a change of cast for the next update and onwards for Alvida.

We wish we could provide a release date, but we would rather wait until we’re certain. What we can promise is that our priority remains delivering a game that meets your expectations and takes your feedback into account.

Ensuring your voices shape this journey has always been the goal of Early Access.
