Month of the Mad God start

We noticed some of you were a bit confused about when this year’s MotMG starts. We can’t spill the beans yet but we can definitely tell you that the start is in the second half of September and it will be one of the biggest, most stacked MotMGs to date. It will bring new content, game-changing features, and of course, loot. We are incredibly stoked and will be sharing more information soon. All we can say until then is: get hype!

It's time to say... Goodbye Flash

With RotMG Exalt out of beta and continuing to receive more ambitious updates, the legacy Flash client has become not only obsolete, but also a hindrance in the introduction of our new features.. Maintaining the Flash client is also creating extra overhead for our development team and those resources can be better spent on new features. Any changes and additions currently made to the Exalt client requires time and effort ensuring that it doesn’t break the Flash client. Our time has decided that our resources would be better spent focusing on the Exalt client

For this reason, we have settled on a date to formally end support for the Flash client: September 23rd.

After this date, the Flash client will no longer be usable. With Flash fully out of the picture, we will be able to put more effort into Exalt improvements without needing to spend time and resources catering to the Flash client. We will continue working over the next month (and beyond) to ensure Exalt is as accessible as possible.

As of now, 86% of players have transitioned over to Exalt as their primary platform. From now until September 23rd, we encourage anyone still on Flash to use the month as a transitioning period in preparation for Flash’s cutoff date.

Flash served Realm of the Mad God well for a whole ten years now. From the game’s humble origins as a game jam creation to the vast, unique bullet-hell MMO it is today, Flash helped RotMG get off the ground and then some.

We hope you’re as excited as we are to see Realm of the Mad God grow greater than ever before!

Patch Notes 1.0.2.0 - Ancient Ruins & more

Hello Realmers,

In the ancient times before Oryx had clawed his way to absolute power, others sought the same might through one method or another. Buried deep within the Realm's barren deserts lay vast ruins. Once built to summon and harness the power of another plane, it soon was home to an army of inanimate warriors, powerful constructs, and long-dormant spirits. But the spirits grew vengeful for their imprisonment, and soon calamity struck. The shrine was entirely annihilated, with the formerly imprisoned spirits being the only remaining alive. The shrine was abandoned, left to decay to the sands of time.

But now the ruins have been discovered. Overrun with wildlife, engulfed by sand, and monitored by the spirits that once ravaged it, remnants of the shrine's history still remain. They are determined to eliminate all those who seek to know the answers of its past. Though the acquired knowledge from ancient times had unknowingly escaped, and this would not be the last time spirits were abused for warfare...

Dungeon Design Spec Winners!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner, Realmers!

It took a while to review the amazing entries that we had for the Dungeon Specification Contest! There were loads of great entries, and narrowing it down to just five was no easy task! But at last, we are finally ready to announce the top 5 winners!

The following dungeons demonstrated the best examples of our four main criteria: Creativity (how original and fleshed out the concept and theme is), ingenuity (how much the dungeon achieves within the realistic limitations of the game), integration (how well it fits into the game), and presentation (how readable and fluid the document is).
I. The Necropolis by Puffagod:
"[...] an early-game/mid-game dungeon themed around a temple of the dead.”
II. The Chophouse by Supercst:
“This is an Epic Oryx’s Kitchen dungeon. Bonegrind is back with a cohort of monstrous foods and employees.”
III. The Workshop by Takushiari:
“The Workshop is a static dungeon with a single traditional boss fight, a cemetery inspired wave encounter and a Spectral Sentry / Dungeon crawl fight.”
IV. Salty Shoals by Boomeranga:
“Following the subsequent breach of Deadwater Docks, Bilgewater narrowly escaped to commandeer the flagship of his smuggling syndicate, ‘King Alexander’s Revenge.’ With the heroes of the realm in close pursuit, a battle for control over the seas seems imminent…but, what’s with all the tentacles?”
V. Cretacious Canyon by Joeybro:
“Free the Saurids from oppression and battle some sick cyborg dinosaurs!”

Based on what we saw in the submissions, we also plan to set up a new dungeon spec template next time we hold a contest like this to more accurately match the rules, as we understand this caused some confusion initially.

The winners will soon be contacted to choose their rewards! Congratulations to all if you again, and thank you to everyone who participated!
