CD Projekt confirm The Witcher is coming back for a new game

CD Projekt have today announced they're officially working on the next installment in The Witcher series. Whether this is The Witcher 4, though, we don't know - only that it will be supposedly "kicking off a new saga for the franchise," according to a statement on CD Projekt's website. It will also be kicking off a new venture into Unreal Engine 5, as the developer announced they were leaving their own REDengine behind as they embark on a new, multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games.

A New Saga Begins

We’re happy to announce that the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise.

This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We'll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.

At this point, no further details regarding the game — such as a development time frame or release date — are available.

REDengine, the technology which powers Cyberpunk 2077, is still being used for the development of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.

New Witcher game confirmed to be developed on Unreal Engine 5

A new Witcher game has just been teased via the official Witcher Twitter account today. The post shows an image of a Witcher necklace partially covered in the snow, alongside the words “A new saga begins”, indicating the start of a whole new narrative set within the beloved franchise.

The post also links to a news post on the CD Projeckt Red website, where it is revealed that this new Witcher game will be created with Unreal Engine 5, as opposed to the in-house REDengine.

The use of Unreal Engine 5 also comes with a multi-year partnership between CD Projeckt Red and Epic Games, which apparently “covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant.”

Here's the full trailer for Netflix's The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, feat. young, hot Vesemir

As a child, I wanted to be a Ghostbuster or an Indiana Jones. TBH, I’d still quite like to be either. But I don’t want to be a Witcher after watching The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf's new trailer. It shows off the really rather stressful process that creates a Witcher, and it’s something I don’t want any part of. I prefer my fictional job goals to involve way less imbibing of mutagenic goo*.

The Witcher animated film's full trailer reveals yeah, Vesemir was also hot once

Okay video games, I think it's time to go take a cold shower. We've already been beset by young and unnecessarily attractive Hercule Poirot today and now Geralt's Witcher dad has been cursed with a case of nice face as well. Netflix have revealed a longer look at their upcoming animated film The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf and yup, Vesemir is hot now. Or used to be hot, rather. Here's the new trailer, which does actually get into a bit of plot bits aside from sticking yet another monster slayer in a tub.
