Monthly Transmission Manifest (July & August 2025) - Card Frames & Aliens

[p][/p]
This is the commander speaking!
[p][/p][p]Welcome to July and August devlog for Mini Tank Mayhem. We meet again for the seventh time sharing updates for Mini Tank Mayhem. In this devlog, our team has been working on revamping the aliens and adding more spices to the cards.[/p][p][/p][p]Don’t forget to always check out our videos and posts on Facebook, Instagram , and Twitter. Now let's get those tanks moving! [/p][p][/p]
New Alien Has Appeared
[p]One of the things we’ve been focusing on in Mini Tank Mayhem is making sure enemies are easy to read and feel unique so they don’t end up looking too similar to one another. In this update, we’ve given the new alien enemies a visual overhaul. Heavy units now look bulky and armored, making them stand out as tanky threats. Flying enemies are also easy to spot, with their wings clearly shown as they soar straight toward your base.[/p][p][/p][p]One of our inspirations for the bulky alien design comes from deep-sea fish. Their sharp fins, unusual head shapes, and sometimes a dangerous trait can be intimidating. Our concept artist aimed for a look that is both cute but also dangerous.[/p][p]We’ve also added unique variants for alien enemies. That means a single enemy type may appear in basic form, but as you go further through the stage, a new variant will spawned and tougher to counter. The more unique the variants, the harder they are to take down so keep you deck sharp![/p][p][/p]
Aura For an Eye
[p]Most deckbuilder game use a card rarity system, often shown through different card frames or visual effects in order to make  higher-rarity cards stand out. In Mini Tank Mayhem, we realized there wasn’t a satisfying way to feel the impact of using powerful cards either during preparation phase or in the middle of combat. To fix that, we decided to add aura effect to the cards. Now, powerful cards can look different than others, especially with different rarity. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Here’s how the aura works, if your card rarity is common then there is no aura. If it is a rare card then there will be a hint of distinctive purple aura around the card edges. This also followed with epic card where the effect is more jarring with fiery yellow effect around the edges.[/p][p][/p][p]These effects provide instant visual feedback, helping players quickly spot important cards during preparation phase or combat phase. Monthly Transmission Manifest (June 2025) - Improving The Visual

[p][/p]

[p]
Welcome to June devlog for Mini Tank Mayhem. First of all, thank you so much for playing Mini Tank Mayhem demo. We are very happy to hear your enthusiasts and feedback about our game. Due to popular demand, we decided to open the demo for new and veteran commanders![/p][p][/p][p]In this devlog, our team worked on improving the visual of the game.Don’t forget to always check out our videos and posts on Facebook, Instagram , and Twitter. Now let's get those tanks moving! [/p][p][/p]
How It All Began
[p]During the development of the demo, we encountered a limitation with Unity’s Built-in Render Pipeline. This limitation is coming from post-processing effects from Built-in Render Pipeline. To make Mini Tank Mayhem visual more vibrant and cleaner as we envisioned, we decided to switch Render Pipeline. As you can see, Unity has three main rendering pipelines: Built-in, Universal Render Pipeline (URP), and High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP). However, what we did not anticipate was how each render pipeline uses its own shader system. In simple terms, our material shader from built-in won’t work either in URP or HDRP so we have to reworked the shaders. [/p]
Choosing Render Pipeline
[p][/p][p]Initially, we thought choosing a pipeline would be the easy part. HDRP is known for delivering high-end visuals but is demanding on performance — not ideal for our target audience. URP offered a good balance between quality and performance, so we opted for it. However, the transition came with its own set of challenges.[/p][p]Initially, choosing the render pipeline would be the easy part because URP is the most logical answer. If you did not know, HDRP is known for delivering high-end visuals but is demanding on performance. URP on the other hand has a good balance between quality and performance, so we opted for it. However, the transition came with its own set of challenges.[/p][p][/p]
Cleaning All The Mess
[p]As expected, many of our 3D assets materials are missing due to shader incompatibilities. Restoring them took several weeks of shader fixes and material reassignments. To make matters things better (or worse), we ran into lighting issues with URP, which required backtracking to resolve. It became a cycle of fixing shaders, adjusting lighting, and ensuring everything looked right in the new pipeline. The results of these efforts can be seen below.[/p][p]
