Turning Disco Elysium Into a Genre

Hello, residents of Rue Valley and nearby areas!

Recently, Marko Smiljanić, Creative Director of Rue Valley, was invited by The 41st Precinct to the Human Can Opener podcast. They had a great time talking about Rue Valley and geeking out about their shared love for Disco Elysium.

In this episode of Human Can Opener, Marko goes into great detail about the history of Emotion Spark Studio, and how the idea of Rue Valley originated and evolved throughout the years. He explains the main mechanics of Rue Valley and the idea behind its art style. He also recounts how the team of Rue Valley met the creators of Disco Elysium, who got to play a demo of the game while visiting the offices of Emotion Spark Studio in Belgrade.

With The 41st Precinct’s permission, we’ve prepared a little teaser of what you can expect from this episode:

And if you enjoy the Human Can Opener episode about Rue Valley, you may also like the previous episode about Glasshouse.

Lastly, we heard that some of you missed the opportunity to play the Rue Valley open alpha. And while the alpha is now closed, and the dev team is moving forward, we’ve decided to keep the alpha available as a demo for everyone who wants to try it. So, if you’ve never heard about Rue Valley, you can try out the demo right now!

Enjoy your time in Rue Valley!

Our Main Takeaways From the Open Alpha

Greetings, Rue Valley residents!

The Rue Valley alpha has finally come to an end. It was so inspiring to see how many of you played the game and shared your impressions with each other and with us. We’ve gathered a lot of feedback from Steam, our social media, and our Discord!

And without further ado, we have some statistics from our alpha survey that we want to share with you.

The most commonly mentioned highlights for players were the game’s visual style, story, and the impact of Mr. Harrow’s personality.

83% of you enjoyed the story so far and look forward to exploring more of Rue Valley in the future.
31% of you liked everything about the alpha. 30% thought the UI was the least enjoyable aspect of the game, and 24% didn’t enjoy the Mind Map. Don’t worry, though; we are already working on improving these aspects of Rue Valley!

The average rating of the Rue Valley alpha in this survey is 8/10. Our team is incredibly grateful and motivated by this reception. We’ll do our best to make the game even more enjoyable on release!
The average rating for all localizations was over 4/5, and we are glad we managed to add localizations to the Rue Valley alpha.

As we are writing this, our team is wrapping up work on the next part of the game, that follows the content of the alpha. This is an important milestone for us, and we are immensely excited to see how the first half of Rue Valley is coming together and turning into something we can play from start to finish.

A lot of people asked us about the release date, but, unfortunately, it has yet to be decided. We need to finish most of the Rue Valley content first before we can commit to any specific date. Rest assured, though, you will be the first to know when we are ready to announce its future release. Meanwhile, you can subscribe to our social media and join our Discord. Also, if you liked what you saw in the alpha, don’t forget to wishlist Rue Valley on Steam.

Our deepest gratitude to all the players,
Love, Emotion Spark Studio

Rue Valley is back!

Hello, everyone!

We apologize for the lack of news in recent months.

The reason for our radio silence is that we’ve been working on something big, and now the time has come to share the news! We’ve partnered up with Owlcat Games, the creators of Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. From here on out, Owlcat Games will act as the publisher of Rue Valley, allowing us to fully focus on developing the game. Additionally, they are helping us by sharing their expertise in creating story-driven RPGs with deep narratives and memorable characters.

We’ve been working together for some time and we’ll be able to reveal the first results of our cooperation soon. We are very excited, and we hope you enjoy our upcoming news!

Meanwhile, you can follow us on social media, and join our subreddit and discord to chat with our community managers and devs (just don’t distract the devs too much, please!):

One more thing: thank you so much for staying with us during our long months of silence, for believing in us and our game. Now that we have additional resources, we will post regular updates about Rue Valley’s development, and we hope you won’t be disappointed!
