Preview: TERA in 2021!

Hello TERA players,

We’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year! 2020 was a bit of a crazy year and despite the coronavirus pandemic which has hit all of us hard, we’ve been working to turn several huge TERA projects into reality.
Some of these have been very successful, particularly the addition of new players from Southeast Asia, Russia and America to the Gameforge family. Unfortunately, the TERA Battle Arena and Core Area were not as successful as we’d hoped and will be closing their doors again in 2021.

Patch Overview

As part of the first two larger updates coming in the new year, we’ll be implementing lots of the changes and additions to TERA that you’ve requested. Here’s a brief overview of what you can look forward to:

Patch 102 in January

New dungeon: The Catalepticon – with no entry limit
Returning dungeon: Ruinous Manor
New gear: Without any degradation in the event of failure

Patch 103

Etchings will become permanent
An additional new dungeon

As well as these adjustments, we’re also working on further improvements at the moment. It goes without saying that we’ll keep you posted.

New Dungeon: The Catalepticon

In the new dungeon The Catalepticon, you’ll have to go up against Lumikan, a warrioress you’ll already know from the story around Exodor.But watch out; she’ll turn her swords into a spear during combat in order to draw you out.

Thanks to your feedback in recent months, this instance will be playable without any weekly limit whatsoever! As a reward, you’ll receive (among other things) valuable materials which you’ll need for enchanting the new gear.

Kaia’s Soul Gear

You can get this new gear by upgrading your existing equipment – you’ll need some +15 Mythical gear. But don’t worry: enchanting existing items is getting easier too – further details are in the patch notes.

Kaia’s Soul Gear can be enchanted up to +9, with the first 6 levels (+0 to +6) being relatively easy to reach. The last 3 levels (+6 to +9) demand quite a bit more dedication. However, this equipment will never revert back to a lower level – while it’s still possible for an enchantment to fail once you’ve reached +8, the level will no longer drop back down.

As levels +7, +8 and +9 are particularly difficult to reach, they will grant you certain pre-defined effects once you achieve them!

And it’s not just in dungeons that it’s possible to get hold of new materials, but also via various PvP activities as well as via merchants in the TERA world. As always, the full details on this gear can be found in the patch notes.

Patch 103: Etchings

We’ve heard your feedback on etchings loud and clear and forwarded it on to the developer. All temporary etchings from patch 99 will be converted as part of patch 103 so that:

all 30-day etchings become permanent
all 60-day etchings become an item with two permanent versions

Etchings which have already been applied to your equipment will also be converted as part of the patch – in the event that they’re still valid when the server maintenance takes place.

Your Feedback Is Important to Us!

You’re welcome to keep on sending us requests, suggestions and complaints. Please be sure to do this via the forum – this is the only way your feedback can reach the developer to then be transformed into effective changes for future updates.

We hope the changes listed above show how valuable your feedback is to us – both to Gameforge and the developer, Bluehole – and that we want to keep on improving the game for everyone!

We hope you get off to a good start in the New Year – keep well!

Patch Notes 101: Dungeon Gauntlets

Our Christmas events are already in full swing and we’re rounding off 2020 with a bang. Gear up for patch 101, which sees you facing challenges you could never have dreamed of while being richly rewarded with loot, all with a new system for more difficult dungeons.

You’ll also get your hands on new and rarer card fragments, with additional events and rewards also in store for you as part of this update.

Dungeon Gauntlets

This new system makes it possible to play existing instances with scalable difficulty – all you need to do is simply go to the respective teleportal and select the “Dungeon Gauntlet” option. Please note that the instances available are subject to change in future updates.

You’ll then be taken to a new menu where you can decide on the difficulty level. The recommended item level will also be displayed. As the difficulty increases, so too does the item drop rate and the amount of Adventure Coin. The number of Dungeon Gauntlet runs you can make per week are counted separately, and are independent of regular instance entries.

**Akalath Quarantine**

* 10 entries per week (20 for Club members)

* The increased drop rate affects existing loot

**Red Refuge**

* 10 entries per week (20 for Club members)

* The increased drop rate affects existing loot

**Draakon Arena & Velik’s Sanctuary**

* No entry limit

* The increased drop rate affects event tokens (read more about this below)

**Training Ground**

* No entry limit

Expanded Card Collection

**New Cards**

New cards have been added to the Card Collection, which you can now collect:

* 5 NPC cards

* 26 monster cards

* 12 materials cards

* 6 fish cards

* 11 panorama cards

**New Item Grade**

Alongside common cards (white) and uncommon cards (green), there are now rare cards (blue) too!

The cards can be viewed via the usual Card Collection menu and lend you more powerful effects, which have, of course, been added to the collection effects as well.

**Miscellaneous**

* The number of possible card presets has been increased from 3 to 10.

* 11 additional collection effects have been added.

* More rewards for a higher number of Card Collection Points (10,500–23,500) have been added. On top of that, it’s possible to reach higher Collection levels with the new cards.

* The rewards for existing Card Collection Points (500–9,500) have been updated.

Card Fusion

A new system for combining card fragments has been added. You can now make use of any duplicate cards you’ve collected in full.

**4-to-1 Fusion**

Using the new option in the inventory menu, you can fuse 4 card fragments (of the same rarity grade) together to produce a new result — the possibilities are as follows:

• You receive card fragments of the same rarity grade (one or more).

• With a little luck, you receive card fragments of a higher value (up to 20 at once).

• If the fusion is unsuccessful, you’ll still receive Mileage Points (find out more about this below).

Different cards must be used for each fusion. Rare cards cannot be fused and event card fragments (e.g. Ruby Moon Elin) cannot be obtained as a result.

**20-to-X Fusion**

You can also fuse 20 of the same card fragments via a second tab – with this, the chances of coming away empty-handed are high. If the fusion is successful, however, you can get 10 to 20 fragments of a higher rarity grade!

**Mileage Points**

You get Mileage Points whenever a fusion attempt fails. This means you’ll still profit even when unsuccessful, as 1,000 Mileage Points will get you 20 Mileage Point Tokens, and these can be exchanged for specific cards!

Instance Changes

**Classification**

The classification of the following bosses has been changed (this is important for the way Card Collection effects work):

**Loot Adjustments**

* Macellarius Catacombs:

* High-level relics have been removed from the loot list.

* The loot in the following locations has been adjusted: RK-9 Kennel, Red Refuge, Velik’s Hold, Thaumetal Refinery, Antaroth’s Abyss, Gossamer Vault, Grotto of Lost Souls, Akalath Quarantine, Draakon Arena

* Rare gear (blue) has been removed.

* It’s now possible to obtain Improved Dark Shard Weapon Feedstock or Improved Dark Shard Armor Feedstock.

* Rewards relating to card fragments have also been revised in the majority of instances.

**Kezzel’s Gorge**

Patch 101 sees this event instance closing its doors.

**Commander’s Residence**

* Entering this instance reduces the number of entries.

* Adventure Coin is now collected upon entering the instance.

* The boss will only be summoned once all 20 players have entered the instance.

Battleground Changes

**Leaderboard**

A new limitation has been introduced whereby players who play fewer than 3 rounds in a week automatically lose their Rank Points (every Thursday) .

**Underground Battlepit**

* Following some adjustments, the battleground is now designed for 5 vs 5.

* Playing time has been reduced to 5 minutes and rewards have been reduced by 30%.

* The positioning of various battleground elements has been changed.

**Corsairs’ Stronghold**

New skills for group leaders have been added.

Item Changes

**Open World / Exodor**

* Rare gear (blue) and superior gear (gold) have been removed.

* It’s now possible to obtain Improved Dark Shard Weapon Feedstock or Improved Dark Shard Armor Feedstock.

**Card Fragments**

Changes have been made to content relating to the reworking of Card Collections – this affects Partner Adventures and the Specialty Store.

**Shop Adjustments**

* Triumph Token Exchange Shop:

* New items are now available.

* The cost of existing stock has been reduced.

* Some older items have been removed.

* Traveling Merchant:

* “Serghetto Box I” will be available for a time.

* Bellicarium Shop:

* A whole host of enchantment and skill advancement items have been added.

* Reputation Shops:

* The contents of these shops has been updated.

Event Loot

**Velik’s Sanctuary**

* Lakan’s Weapon Skin (for lancers) will now be dropped as rare loot.

* Lakan’s Cape can also be obtained as loot (for all classes).

* Along with the patch release, an event will start during which you can also get Lakan’s Costume and other items (using tokens via the daily quests of many dungeons).

**Draakon Arena (Normal, Hard)**

* It’s possible to obtain the rare or superior version of a partner as bonus loot. The superior version allows you to keep the power buff after you die.

Miscellaneous

Server communication in dungeons and the character selection animation have been improved.

TERA Battle Arena

The TERA Battle Arena game mode will come to an end with next update (patch 102) at the beginning of 2021 – you can find more information about this in our [news post]. Changes to the TERA Battle Arena will therefore not be discussed in further detail in the patch notes.
