[p]Ah… fresh blood. Welcome back![/p][p][/p][p]If you climb the hill in Medrești, you’ll find a beautifully decorated resting place. Looking at its tombstones, you might think we took creative liberties and built something entirely new. But the opposite is true! Just like Medrești itself, this cemetery also has a real-world inspiration - and it’s fascinating![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Inspired by the Merry Cemetery, it features bright paintings on the tombstones. Traditionally, these paintings were created by the family of the deceased and usually depicted, in one way or another, who they were during their lifetime. We loved this idea and wanted to bring it into Vampires: Bloodlord Rising too. Take a look below at some of the epitaphs you can find in the game.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]But the Merry Cemetery isn’t “merry” just because of its colors. Many epitaphs are also known for their light-hearted humor - and we embraced that.[/p][p][/p][p]In the end, a cemetery is still a resting place for our loved ones, and it deserves respect. We really wanted to stay true to that. At the same time, the Merry Cemetery in Romania shows that even something somber and sacred can be remembered in a colorful, heartfelt, and sometimes even playful, way.[/p][p][/p][p]We’ll leave you with our favorite epitaphs, and we hope you’ll come explore the rest of the cemetery in Vampires: Bloodlord Rising![/p][p][/p]

When building the world of Vampires: Bloodlord Rising, we often found ourselves looking beyond pure fantasy and into the deep roots of European folklore. One such place of inspiration was a small settlement, Medrești.

Deep in Romania's Apuseni Mountains, many small settlements, just like Medrești, existed in isolation from any major trade routes or roads. In these places, folklore was a way of understanding the world. Beliefs guided the actions, thoughts, and daily lives and stretched even beyond death.

Historically, death was taken very seriously, not just because of faith, but also out of fear of what might happen if something went wrong.

That's where the belief of strigoi starts.
Strigoi were believed to be similar to vampires - they rose from graves, drained the vitality of loved ones, and caused illness and unrest. But their haunting was much more personal - they only went after their own bloodline.
