New The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match update adds rollback netcode

The fighting game community has been pushing for developers to use rollback netcode in their games for over a decade. Rollback netcode is essential for fighting games as your inputs are registered the moment you hit a button - this means you'll always get the command you wanted, even in matches with high pings. Perfect implementation of rollback netcode allows players from all over the world to fight with minimal lag, and now The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match has been updated with brand new netcode.


SNK fans have been begging for netcode updates, but for the longest time it seemed unlikely to happen. Code Mythics, the team behind the rollback update, has worked with SNK over the past few years to bring their netcode in fighting games up to modern standards.


While Code Mythics has already brought rollback netcode to Garou: Mark of the Wolves, The Last Blade 2, and KOF '97, KOF 2002 UM ran on different hardware which made the implementation difficult. After spending six months in an open beta period, SNK and Code Mythics are finally able to launch the new and improved KOF 2002 UM.

The KOF 2002 UM Rollback Major Update is here!

Hey KOF fans! The long wait is finally over!
That's right! KOF 2002 UM is back and better than ever with a major update!


So, let's take a look under the hood and see what's new in store for KOF 2002 UM

[h2]ROLLBACK NETCODE[/h2]
KOF 2002 UM is now running Code Mystics' unique and bar-setting powerful rollback netcode. What this means is that your online matches will run far more smoothly with less hiccups than traditional delay-based netcode.

[h2]PLAYBACK SUPPORT[/h2]
Ever want to rewatch your latest online match to see what went wrong (or right)? Well, now you can! KOF 2002 UM now supports playback for your ten most recent matches! For security purposes, the playback data is automatically removed upon exiting the app, so be sure to check them out before calling it a day!

[h2]NATIVE 64-BIT SUPPORT[/h2]
Yay!

[h2]CURRENT SESSION WINS/LOSSES[/h2]
Keep your mind on the game--not on keeping count how many wins or losses you have in a FT10!

[h2]NEW GRAPHICS SETTINGS[/h2]
KOF 2002 UM now supports the following graphical settings:
  • Scanlines
  • VSync
  • Non-primary Monitor Support
  • Full Screen Window Mode


[h2]XINPUT CONTROLLER SUPPORT[/h2]
Now A is always "accept" and B is always "cancel" regardless of what LK, LP, SK, SP are.

[h2]QUICK MATCH COOLDOWN ON KICKED/WITHDRAWN MATCHES[/h2]
Tired of auto-matching with the same person over and over again? Well fear not because now there's a cooldown whenever you kick a player or leave a match!
*In the case that you accidentally leave a match you wanted to join, you can always search for said match in Custom Match.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2002 UNLIMITED MATCH COMMUNITY BETA TEST END

Hey everyone!

We would like to thank the thousands of players all across the world who participated in the beta. Without you, this update would not have been possible.

We have to say though, we were very surprised with the amount of feedback we were able to gather in this short period. Shortly after the beta went live, we surpassed our previous all-time peak of players during the game's launch in *2015*!

Not only that, but in the short amount of time the beta was running, there were even a couple tournaments being run for the game as well!

All in all, this was a great success for everyone involved. The community was able to come together and teach new players the ropes, while KOF veterans across the globe duked it out.

Heck, maybe even some of you pulled off Geese's Deadly Rave mid-match. Whatever the level, we're confident all players had a lot of fun during the beta.

But, all good things must come to an end...

However, the good news is that now Code Mystics are going to focus their time on further improving the game to have it in tip-top shape come release.

We will keep everyone posted when the update is going live. Until then, be sure to hit up the various KOF discords out there and hone your skills because KOF2002UM will be back and ready to go before you know it!

THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2002 UNLIMITED MATCH COMMUNITY BETA TEST 32-BIT

Hey SNK fans!

What an exciting two weeks it has been! The 64bit Rollback Beta Test for KOF2002UM turned out to be a massive success, due mostly in part to the dedicated community and fans who played over 100,000 matches during that time! Your feedback really made a difference in helping shape the game into something everyone will love. Truly, you have our thanks!

Now, though the 64bit Rollback Beta Test has ended, we are proud to announce that a 32bit Rollback Beta Test is set to begin the following day, Oct 16th, at 10AM PDT. This beta test will continue until Oct 22nd, 10AM PDT.

If your PC’s running a 32-bit version of Windows, then try out the beta for yourself by right-clicking on KOF 2002 UM's properties, selecting the Betas tab and then select "32-bit trial" from the choices. We welcome your feedback in the Discussion Forums so please be sure to let us know what you think! Additionally, 64-bit Windows users can still continue the fight by opting into the 32bit beta as well, so please try it out!

Notex1: The Beta can only match against other Beta versions of the game, but you can opt out at any time by selecting "NONE" under the Betas tab. We hope you enjoy and look forward to your feedback!
