Starfield modding project to create a whole Elder Scrolls-themed planet "has been canceled", but the poster behind it says it wasn't just trolling

Just days after a lengthy Reddit post outlining plans for it garnered a fair amount of attention, a very ambitious Starfield modding project that aimed to create an entire Elder Scrolls-themed planet featuring recreations of the worldspaces from Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind "has been cancelled". Though, the poster behind it denies that it was, as many commenters had assumed, never properly in the works to begin with.

Dubbed "Project Tamriel", that initial post about the initative on June 28 by Reddit user New-Star-340 claimed that it was "an ambitious and groundbreaking modding endeavor that aims to bring the entirety of Tamriel from The Elder Scrolls series into the expansive universe of Starfield". They specified that this would be accomplished by populating a single planet with "iconic items, detailed maps, and beloved quests" from Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind. Naturally, given how lofty a goal this is and the titanic effort it'd surely take, the post was met by a mixture of excitement and cynicism.

VG247 has since reached out to New-Star-340 in an effort to learn more about Project Tamriel, with the poster responding that "the project has been canceled", with this being cited as the reason behind the absence of links to a website or Discord server for it that initial post, despite one section of that featuring a bracketed space for one.

Morrowind's best quest just got even better with this new mod

If there's one quest that sums up how Morrowind approaches storytelling and worldbuilding all wrapped up into one package, it's Larrius Varro Tells a Little Story. Unlike some other entries in the Elder Scrolls series, the third game aims for a murky and nuanced take on life in this fantasy world. There's nothing that better represents this than the tale dripped into your ear by one Imperial Legion Champion.

Bethesda won't make a game as cool as Morrowind ever again, so thank god an original dev has come back 20 years on to make quest mods for it

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. It's also ugly, unintuitive, and has a combat system assembled by someone who wanted to combine all the worst parts of tabletop RPGs and videogames just to see what would happen. Now, to right-thinking people like you and me, that just adds to its charm, but it probably also goes some way to explaining why Bethesda moved on to develop much more digestible fare and why there are so few Morrowind-likes that aren't made by mad, wonderful indie devs...

An original Morrowind dev is back to working on the game 20 years after quitting Bethesda with an impressive sounding mod

Douglas Goodall, a quest designer for Morrowind, is once again working on the classic Bethesda game through the power of mods.

While it's been more than 20 years since Goodall actually worked at Bethesda, the game designer has been back at work on Morrowind, having worked on a mod for the game that features an all new storyline (thanks, GamesRadar). Goodall has been working on the mod under the pseudonym AFFA, where he's been serving as a writer for it. The mod in question is titled Red Wisdom - An Ashlandr Prophecy, and sees you embarking "on a mystical journey as you unravel the ancient prophecy of Red Wisdom. Join forces with wide-eyed Nirani to unlock the hidden truths that lie within the sacred burial sites of the tribes. Explore a new angle to Ashlander lore, confront wild beasts and Daedric interlopers, and piece together the puzzle which may shape the fate of Morrowind."

Some of the features of the mod listed include the ability to "explore a brand new grotto used by the Ahemmusa tribe to 'bury' their dead" and "visit the exterior burial sites of the Erabenimsun and Zainab tribes." You'll also be able to collect "four elemental-themed Ashlander trinkets" all which have custom art, as well as experience "new Ashlander lore through the trials of a young Wise Woman apprentice." It sounds like a pretty impressive mod overall, and the fact it has an original Morrowind designer attached to it certainly adds something special to it too.
