Letter From The CEO #5 - The Future is Bright

Soldiers!
It’s time for me to update you one last time, and let me start by stating the obvious:
MAKING GAMES IS HARD
Making games is hard, probably the most difficult form of entertainment to design, create, release and operate. Beyond being recognized as an art form, we often forget that many games never make it to release, and while those who do get played by their fans, they are often short lived, leaving their community with nothing.
Heroes & Generals was fully released to the public in October 2016 (after multiple phases of Beta as early as 2014) and is still in operation to this day, in 2022. This makes the HnG team one of the few in the world to have created its own tech, it’s own IP and released and still operates its game after 5+ years, with over 20M+ cumulative registered users and hundreds of thousands of active players every month.
What an accomplishment.
HEROES & GENERALS IS UNIQUE
Heroes & Generals is an incredible piece of interactive entertainment combining the ability to enjoy “All Combat Arms” on vast maps mixing vehicular and first person shooter mechanics, with a unique persistent war that players influence in real time through a strategic command map. The game is complex, sometimes to a fault, and its ambition is huge. I often say it’s a “diamond in the rough” and the vision always felt extraordinary to me. I have a lot of respect for the original creators of the game, they really took the risk to build what they love through passion, and knew many players would enjoy it.
When I joined the team in summer 2017, I had shared my vision for the future of Heroes & Generals with the team and we all pushed really hard to execute it. While things did not always go as planned and we sometimes struggled to deliver to the players’ expectations, I am still extremely proud of the team and what has been achieved in the past few years. Everything passed so quickly. For a highlight of the past 5 years please refer to this infographic we released recently to celebrate our fifth birthday!
WE LOVE DOING THIS
Player engagement with Heroes & Generals remained strong over the years, so we must have been doing something right, yet, we know there is much more to do for any game to stay relevant to its audience and to attract a new one too.
I feel our amazing core team is capable of moving mountains and recently demonstrated that by listening to the players and engaging the entire community in the design and release of our new Battle Pass. We also know it will take more work for Heroes & Generals to continue to grow and we will not be able to do it alone. Again, making a game is hard, releasing a game is harder, operating it while giving meaningful updates to its community, regularly, is even harder ; but for some reason we love doing this and we found new friends who do too!
THREE LITTLE MONSTERS
TLM Partners coming into the picture is a perfect match for Heroes & Generals and its team. Not only does TLM Partners bring strong support to, and alignment with, our vision for the future of HnG ; but it also comes with a ton of experience having worked on multiple recent award winning AAA titles. Everyone agrees here that TLM complements the HnG team with expertise in cross-play PC / Consoles, solid marketing and publishing capabilities and much more.
THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT!
I am really proud of this recent deal, I consider it a significant achievement and a great positive outcome for the team, the game and the HnG IP. Perhaps even more importantly this constitutes an immense opportunity that will benefit the HnG community for a long time.
Under the leadership of TLM Partners this game will continue growing and developing for years to come. The future looks bright!
So long, Soldiers. Till we meet again!
