The kids today might be all about their Helldivers 2 premium warbonds and tactical strikes, but back when me and the boys were defending earth against giant insects, all we had were massive riot shields and miniguns, and by jove, we made do. Never speak to me about Terminids. If you can’t finish your truck-sized ants here on earth, don’t even think about asking for bizarre interstellar insectoids to kill. Anyway, good news for me and the proverbial boys, because multiplayer sci-fi anti-ant shooter Earth Defense Force 6 is dropping on July 25th, 2024.

Before there were the Helldivers, there was the Earth Defense Force: A die-hard unit of gung-ho go-getters who defend humanity against the insurmountable odds of a nigh-endless invasion of bugs from Planet Space. Helldivers 2 continues to eat up a large chunk of my gaming time - after all, those Terminid troublemakers aren't going to stop any time soon. But back before even the first Helldivers, one legendary series was the poster child for chaotic co-op games, offering third-person alien and bug blasting with your besties on a grand scale, complete with a big helping of hyper militaristic bombast and that friendly fire spice. And now it's back, with news of the Earth Defense Force 6 release date on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
