WEEKLY UPDATE!! 7/28/24

Another week goes by, another progress update for you all. I updated the lore bible from last week to fill out some of the parts I hadn’t yet written. There's more I want to add to it, such as the character portraits, but for now I’m using it as a reference sheet that can be easily accessed through google docs. If I make it look fancy now, it could make it cumbersome to scroll through at a moment’s notice, so that’s a project for another time.

However, some of you who’ve read certain parts of it will notice that I made a change to the lore. Specifically with the name of Viviene’s Dark Lord. I’ve gone back and updated every instance (I could find) of the name Satan and changed it to Sanguineus. Vampire mythology is often associated with Christianity, but aside from the use of crosses, I’d rather have my game’s lore follow its own rules and not mess with any real world religion or its figures. I think that goes without saying in a work of fiction, but I’d rather avoid the “ Umm, actually…” comments.

I have finished the layout of the Shrouded Academy. I still need to decorate the interiors as well as add in a few… gimmicks. I will elaborate further on that in a future update. The main room that I worked on is the final one where the boss is fought. An underground cavern surrounded with waterfalls. I’ve also started work on the boss fight, As seen below.

I’m purposefully trying to keep details on this vague…

And for this week’s art, I have the bite scene for the Berserker enemy type.

I currently have the full resolution Berserker Bite Scene images available as a preview for all my $5+ patrons. It’s a 2 image set.

This week has felt rather chaotic in terms of time management. Summer has given me little free time between my day job and babysitting my 4 year old nephew. And I just found out I have another one on the way! I’m excited, but also dreading caring for an infant again. I love taking care of my nephew, but kids are draining, especially at that age.

I’m sticking to a development schedule that works best for me. I’ve said this before, but I’m repeating it again for myself more than anything. I’m focusing on getting small goals done each week for you all. That being said, I’m still aiming to have this update out by late September. If I can keep this pace going, I should be able to meet my deadline. With any luck, I should have a bit more free time in August.

Anyway, that’s all I have for you this week. Until next time everyone!!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 7/21/24

Hey everyone! This week I began working on something that I had been thinking about making for a long time. As a solo creator, it's hard for me to keep track of all the facts within my fictional world, especially as Crimson Veil continues to grow in its scope. To help catalog these details, I have started writing a Lore Bible for the game. So far, I have added short bios for each of the characters, including facts that are not said explicitly within the game’s text, but help flesh them out. There’s also details such as each character’s full name, age, height, weight, and the nationality they are based on.

Crimson Veil takes place in the fictional world of Gaia Solvus. The areas players visit are inspired by European countries. I have not created an official map yet, as I feel it could limit me creatively, but I have still given each of the characters a nationality that can later be adapted to my world’s equivalent.

This is a list that I am continuing to update as I go,
but if you are interested in learning a bit more about the game’s world, you can read through it here:

Crimson Veil Lore Bible

Be cautioned however, that there are some facts that could be considered spoilers, so I recommend that you at least finish the main story before skimming through it. Also, I’m only human, so if I miss a fact or misstate something here, please let me know so I can address it. I’m trying to keep things consistent moving forward, and this side project will most certainly help with that! Also, if there are any details you think that I should add, let me know.

Next up, I have a preview of the Edge Weaver’s fate upon being defeated.

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 7/14/24

Happy Sunday everyone! Despite me getting hit with a pretty bad cold in the middle of the week, I managed to hit one of my milestones by finishing all the sketches necessary for scenes! I finished 5 this week, which for me, feels like a lot! Here’s a quick preview of one of them!

I also wanted to share another enemy type that I briefly previewed in a past update. That being the Blast Chemist!

This nerdy gal specializes in bomb and explosive skills. The skills can do a lot of damage when they hit, and can also numb you, leaving you open for a follow up attack. However, this dorky chick occasionally has too much fun with her concoctions, opting to waste a turn to laugh at you instead.

Just like the other enemies though, once you’ve defeated her, you can punish her however you see fit…

I currently have the full resolution Blast Chemist character portraits as well as her Bite Scene images available as a preview for all my $5+ patrons. I hope you’ll check her out and tell me what you think of her design!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 7/7/24

Howdy everybody! I hope your week was good. Mine was, despite the sweltering heat that persists where I live. Getting the 4th of July off was a real boon as I was able to get a good amount of work done that day, ahead of the weekend. It let me begin mapping out a new area, the Shrouded Institute.

This hidden school is located deep within the Rotten Grove. No one alive knows when it was established, but it’s halls are most certainly abandoned now… Aside from a single resident.

The main antagonist of this quest Dorothy Duvelle is a former alumni of this dark school. Her twisted personality is a result of her delving too deeply in shadowy arts. The institute is now her den and these decrepit halls feel as though they are watching your every move…

I have a set of character portraits for Dorothy available now for my $5+ patrons. Check them out if you’re curious to view more of this twisted witch. Just don’t blame me if it turns out to be too freaky for your liking!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 6/30/24

Greetings once again everybody! Chugging along this week, I drafted up the exterior and part of the interior for a new location, the Gauthier Residence, home of Clover and her mother, Duchess Isolde Gauthier.

Isolde and her family hold great influence in the actions of the church. Her family has a history and positive association with them. This makes her something of a celebrity in Fallholt, a fact she takes full advantage of. She also happens to be Maria’s granddaughter!

While she comes across as doting towards her child, she is highly manipulative. She also has a deep disgust towards vampires, a trait she shares only with the elite nobles who she spends much of her free time around. Mila will ultimately be tasked with assisting in finding and returning Clover to her, much to her dismay.

I have a set of character portraits for Isolde available now for my $5+ patrons. Check them out if you want to see more of this 47 year old mommy.
