WEEKLY UPDATE 9/24/23

Howdy, all of you!

October is approaching and you know what that means! Spooky season is nearly upon us! Oh yeah, the game’s latest update is set to release that month too. This week, I focused on getting artwork done. I’ve just got a few more sketches to finish and I’ll be done with this update. Here’s a teaser of the latest sketch I’ve finished:

Do any of you find it easier to work on personal projects outside of the house? I find that working in my room can often lead to distractions. So, during each update’s production cycle, I usually take a day or two to work on the game away from home to help me focus. I planned on writing Seraphina’s conversations this past week, but those plans fell through. The additional workload I’ve had from my day job has left me drained over the last few weeks (since the start of August, really). I just haven’t been able to come home and focus on writing as much as I would like. Tomorrow, I plan on taking a personal day from my day job to visit the local library and get some quality, focused work done on the game. The scenario’s writing is done. I just need to write Sera’s Pet dialogue.

For those of you who don’t know, I usually write these updates shortly before they go live, every Sunday at 8 PM EST. I do this mainly because Sunday is the day I dedicate fully to working on the game and when I get most of the week’s work done. I intended to finish a drawing to share with you all, but I was running short on time today, and I don’t want to rush it to meet this week’s deadline. I’ll share with you a small teaser for now and I’ll release the full version, once it’s done, to my $5 and up patrons:

Wish me a clear mind for this upcoming week! Until next time, everyone!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 9/17/23

Greetings, Crimson Veil enjoyers. Welcome back to another weekly update!

This week was spent catching up on some of the smaller tasks I had yet to do. For example, I filled out the dungeon with environmental details, and treasures. I finished adding in the pending level 4 patrons as NPC characters (special thanks to you all!) I also had to put in some thought in creating unique skills for Bianca and Seraphina. I had to think to myself, what is their role in combat? What would make a player want to pick a specific Pet over another (aside from just choosing their favorite). In that regard, I made both of their roles a bit more niche.

Bianca for example, learns moves that can give an enemy a weakness to a particular element. She is also capable of giving Mila half of her own SP, providing Mila with crucial gas in a tough battle.

Seraphina on the other hand, has a skill which acts like Aeriseth’s summon skill, reducing a single enemy’s remaining health by 30% as well as her own. Definitely a powerful opening skill which grows weaker over a longer battle. She is also capable of sacrificing herself for a full heal to Mila as well as a temporary buff to attack and defense. Both skills are useful, but cost a fair amount of SP, so be sure to use them wisely.

I'm working hard to finish the last few sketches to have everything done in time for the October release. Here’s a preview of the latest sketch I’ve done. This one is for Seraphina’s bad ending.

That wraps up what I have to share with you all today. Thanks again to everyone who sent me well wishes for my birthday. Until next time, everyone!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 9/10/23

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well!

After finishing what was left of Bianca’s content, I shifted focus to Seraphina and her quest. The dungeon layout is complete and I just need to tweak some of the puzzle elements and furnish the environments.

Some more scenes have been scripted and I think I’ve created a challenging boss out of her. Seraphina’s power of light will slowly drain Mila (and companion) of her HP, adding additional tension to the fight. If you are at a lower level, you will definitely want to bring a Pet to help you in this fight.

Seraphina’s support conversations and bad ending are the last major pieces of writing I have left. To be honest, I felt stuck with where I wanted her character to go. While writing the boss scene leading up to her bite, I got an epiphany. It required me to go back and create new character portraits, but now the conversations have the capability to be…sexier.

Outside of her initial fall and corruption, I want to explore the sexual deviousness of this wicked, holy woman. While I enjoy writing support conversations, I realize that the conversation tends to lean towards wholesome rather than arousing. While I think that’s worked well for the characters I’ve written for so far, I think there’s a portion of the player base that’s looking for more T&A out of these conversations.

One other quick thing I’d like to share with you all is this sketch of a new enemy type!

I’d been brainstorming ideas for new mook enemy types to add to the vampire route, since fighting vampire hunters can get pretty repetitive, even if their designs are varied. I came up with the idea of adding a hunter enemy that focuses on a singular skill type. This hunter focuses on Axe skills. Eventually, there will be an enemy type for Knives, Bombs, Crosses, and Silver Bullets too! This enemy type will not be added in this update as I already have my hands full, but will appear in the next update, which will advance the vampire route’s story.

I’ll be taking it easy this upcoming week, to celebrate my birthday with some friends. I have some fanart unrelated to Crimson Veil that I’ve meant to finish, but haven’t had the time to. That being said, I want to announce that I plan on releasing the next update some time in October. The last big hurdle is finishing up the art and writing the bad ending scenes, so expect to see those in the coming weeks leading up to the update’s release.

But that’s all I have for you this week. Until next time, everyone!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 9/3/23

Hey everyone! I hope you're all enjoying your extended weekend if you're in the U.S., just like I am!

This week has been quite productive for me on the game development front. I'm thrilled to share that I've managed to write all of Bianca's scenes. And, they're not just written but also completely scripted, except for one slightly more complex scene, which I plan to dive into tomorrow.

Writing for Bianca was a unique challenge because, among all the characters in the game, she's the one the players know best. I wanted to avoid the risk of it feeling repetitive, so I decided to explore a different, unseen side of Bianca. This approach breathed new life into her character, and once I started, the creative ideas just kept flowing. To top it off, I've even finished the colors on Bianca's max affection illustration!

But that's not all; I've also begun scripting some of the earlier scenes for the Shattered Sanctity Quest. This questline is going to be an exciting one, and I can't wait to see where it takes our characters.

Seraphina has become one of the few characters who I prefer in her human form. (She'd probably look great as an ancient vampire...) So, to showcase some more scenes of Seraphina as a human, I created additional expressions for the Nun NPC so that she would have someone to bounce a conversation off of… Until she meets with Mila, of course.

Lastly, while I have continued to write lore entries, I've been pondering the role of the church in this new world. Its history and connection to the kingdom of Fallholt have been fascinating to think about in my spare time. Definitely happy about making this quest because its potential for expansion into other aspects of the vampire route is great!

Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm for the game. Your feedback and encouragement fuel my creativity, and I can't wait to bring you more exciting updates soon!

Until next time, everyone!

WEEKLY UPDATE!! 8/27/23

Evening, everyone! Thank you so much for the feedback you provided last week with Dorian’s new design. I went back and adjusted his pose and I think I struck a good balance between the old pose and the new one.

I’m going to have to adjust his sprite too since it still reflects his old design. I’ll get on that shortly…

This week I mainly focused on the design of Blutig Waterway. Not just the design of the dungeon, but also with some optional environmental storytelling. I hope that players will check out the small notes and objects I’ve laid about this place as it will detail some intriguing revelations.

Journal entries have been what my mind has chosen to focus on this week, as I’ve unfortunately been having trouble writing compelling dialogue. My brain’s been in a bit of a funk, writing wise. My goal for this upcoming week is to at least finish writing Bianca’s support conversations.

I did finish coloring one of the sketches I shared last week. Here is a teaser of Ophelia’s max affection illustration.

$5 and up Patrons can check out the full version right now, if they like.

And that’s all I have to share with you this week (aside from this silly image I made when measuring Dorian’s scale).

Take care everyone!
