Onions & Highland Cattle
New Root Crop & Hairy Giants


With Highlands Fishing, we also introduce onions. After planting them between March and April, fertilizing and removing those pesky weeds like usual, onions require you to cut off the haulms before you collect them in August or September.

New map, new construction projects to keep you busy for seasons: The old castle on the hill lies in ruins, and Kinlaig is missing a windmill. How about you take care of rebuilding them? Not only do they beautify the region, you'll be rewarded as well, and the mill will function as a production point.

There are new selling stations, factories, and other business all over Kinlaig as well. In addition, we added new trees, bushes, fences, and all kinds of decorative objects for you to make you land and the region more charming. Wandering & Wondering


Kinlaig invites you to explore it with its historic architecture, idyllic spots in nature, and new collectibles. Try to find all the bottles with little messages inside. They're collected in a ledger at the town castle, which you should visit anyway.

Build a Castle!
Kinlaig in Need of Restoration


There are two castles in Kinlaig. One is still standing proud at the shore, and the other one... well, it's not standing but lays in ruins. Whatever the history behind that situation is, it seemed that the town castle won the battle. But! You can do something, and help to restore the one on the hill.


As one of the new construction projects, the castle grounds require you to deliver resources, so it may shine at the top of the hill in all its glory once again. It's a bit of a project and takes some time, but when it's done, you're rewarded by being allowed to crown yourself king (or queen) of this fine achievement of architecture.


In case, historic structures to beautify the landscape and increase your prestige level are not your thing, you might want to invest your time and resources into something more productive: the windmill.


Not only does it look nice, it becomes a functioning production point after completion. Meaning, the mill does some actual milling. Deliver your harvested grain to be processed and turned into flour, so it may become your starting point for a production chain.

New Products & Production Chains
Very Fishy...


To build a castle or windmill, you require some resources. Especially wood, but the sawmill is hardly any news, and you might have visited in the past for other construction projects. That's why we added new places and products to the chains of production and construction.

Now, there's also a quarry and a stonemason. Bricks won't do, so heavier stones are needed. And what's a castle without some fancy shingles on the roof, right?

But that's not all. With the new crop, onions, as well as the whole fishing endeavor, there are other new links in a production chain. Most prominently, the fish food factory.


To produce fish food, you need vegetable oil (e.g. sunflower, olive, canola, or rice oil), plus wheat, and soybeans. Out comes the fish food. Learn more about that in our Fishing Preview. There are also a couple new selling stations in town.



New Buildings & Decorations
How nice


Apart from all the machines, tools, factories and production buildings, you get more options to beautify the environment. New buildings can be placed on your land. Want to create a nice, little community within Kinlaig, consisting of natural-looking log cabins and houses? Go ahead!


A variety of decorative objects allows you to customize your backyard. Whether it's a pleasant and tidy, or a more busy one, adjacent to your tool sheds and garage.


New trees, and bushes, and meadow types are also to be found in the construction menu. We know, some of you enjoy placing happy little trees and plants in the vicinity of your farmland - so go for it!


We also placed more ourselves. Kinlaig will be lit with seasonal decoration, like Halloween and Christmas decorations.

There's a fishy new guy joining the crowd in Kinlaig. His name's Alasdair (that's a gaelic name, more or less pronounced just like "Alistair" and other variants of this name). You might have heard him already in our recent Kinlaig Trailer. We'll introduce him in this preview, at least a bit, and answer some questions.

Harbormaster, Fisherman, Ruggedly Handsome


Guess where you can find the guy! Right, at the harbor of Kinlaig. Always near water, which is what brought him to this place on a stormy night when the lighthouse took a break from shining. One of the shipwrecks at the shore of Kinlaig might be his, although he forgot which one.

Talking About the Great Sea
And its mysterious inhabitants


As a former expedition captain, Alasdair has some stories to tell and information to share. If you always wondered about the depths of the oceans and what might lurk in the cold, dark water where the only light is produced by alien-looking creatures, ask him!


Lights out at 1,000 metres. Sun gives up, packs its bags, and doesn’t write. Gone for good. Visibility’s a rumor, but a bad one!

Enter the Anglerfish: Floatin’ there with its daft wee lamp danglin’ in front o’ that strange face.

Probably usin’ it tae spot the Orange Roughy, which is, aye, believe it or not, its actual name.

Bright orange, but lives in the dark. Evolution with a twisted sense o’ humour, if ye ask me.


Questions? Answers!

Is Alasdair's voice AI?
No!

Same as the others, his voice his real. We recorded John Kennard, a talented British voice actor, to provide our fisherman with (real) flair and personality. Since we started recordings and gave him a key for Farming Simulator 25, he got hooked and spent a couple of hundred hours in the game - you could say, he's quite committed, too.

This is not Highlands accent!

Nobody said, he's from there! Apart from that, we had to balance British flair with intelligible dialogue, that can be understood even without reading subtitles (since we have a lot of very young players as well).

We tested quite a bit - different accents, various intensities, more nautical vocabulary, less nautical vocabulary, more stupid jokes, less stupid jokes, and this is what we ended up with to strike a balance.

What can he talk about?

He will only share a bit about himself and focus more on the oceans, their differences, inhabitants, and importance. Also, he can provide you with some tips on fishing. Whether you want to get a rod and relax at the shore or get more serious with aqua farms.

Will he be on other maps as well?

Alasdair's (new) home is Kinlaig, so he will only be resident at the harbor of our new expansion map. That's where he feels comfortable.

Border Collie Has Entered the Game

Cultivating Onions
Cultivate, cut, clean, and continue…


After planting them between March and April, fertilizing and removing those pesky weeds like usual, onions require you to cut off the haulms before you collect them in August or September.

For this crop, Dutch brand Holaras comes into play with two simultaneously attached tools: With the Holaras UMR 330-FC, you cut off the heads and produce a centered swath.

With the Holaras UR 205, attached in the rear, the onions get cleaned more thoroughly after they're dug out by its front-attached companion.

It also compacts the soil a bit, so the onions don't get mixed up with the soil again. By default, the swaths are centered by the belt of the tool, but you can also choose right- or left-aligned swaths.


To collect them, you have two options: the GRIMME Varitron 470 or Ropa Keiler 2 RK22. Both are available with the configuration specialized on this particular vegetable crop. Just like in reality, a potato harvester like the Ropa Keiler 2 can be modified to pick up onions.

After that, deliver them to the Holaras AS 25 on your farm, an onion topper specially designed for trimming onions. Thanks to the special shapes of its blades and their high speed, the strong airflow sucks the onion tails between bars of a vibrating screen, after which they are cut off.


Neatly cut and packaged, the onions are now put in boxes, so you can process them further at various production points…


Processing Onions
Salty, Soupy & Fried


Transport your onions to the next designation. Do you want to produce onion salt or onion soup? Fried onions are also an option. Deliver them to the corresponding factory for processing!

You could also just sell them, if it's too much of a hassle for you and you want to get back onto the fields. No judgment. But also no bonus profit for you!
