Warframe 1999 secret pays tribute to Half-Life and Gordon Freeman

Half-Life's influence on FPS games is hard to measure. You can look at Dishonored, Titanfall 2, and 4A's Metro series, and find direct comparisons with Valve's debut shooter, but more broadly, Half-Life inspired a generation of players to become game-makers. Like Doom before it, Half-Life feels like an inflection point in PC history, and so it's only fitting that Warframe 1999, the new questline in Digital Extremes' ongoing free FPS, pay homage. Buried within the Warframe 1999 playable preview that was launched during Tennocon there is a neat nod to Gordon Freeman, Valve, and the world of Black Mesa. This is one of the most-loved modern shooters paying tribute to the past.

Warframe 1999 is locked behind hours of grind, but DE might have a fix

Warframe 1999 looks sick; there, I said it. From the moment I caught the teaser back at Tennocon last year, I've been desperate to find out more; watching and waiting, listening to '90s throwbacks in anticipation. While I initially thought 1999 was its own separate entity, akin to The Duviri Paradox or a World of Warcraft expansion, it is, instead, an in-game questline that lies beyond the events of Whispers in the Walls. As a newer player who's barely touched down on Fortuna, it's a long road to get to Höllvania Central Mall, so I ask creative director Rebecca Ford and community director Megan Everett how they're planning to combat the grind for new players.

All Kills now reward 2 Nakak Pearls.
Players who helped kill an enemy (but didn’t strike the final blow) will now earn 1 Nakak Pearl per Assist.
Mission 4 now awards 30 Nakak Pearls for every completion after the first, rather than 50, to balance the new influx from Assists. Mission 4 still awards 100 Nakak Pearls on first completion.
