Warframe's next updates include a secret Necralisk lab, grimoires, and a Headless Horseman homage

Greetings, Tenno! This message comes to you from that primeval epoch known as "Last Wednesday", when Digital Extremes treated RPS to a preview screening of the Warframe update announcements planned for this year's Tennocon - a special Tennocon indeed, coinciding as it does with the game's 10th anniversary and the studio's 30th. Alas, "Last Wednesday" was a regular Dark Age, and we dusty ancients were granted only a partial glimpse of the promised new areas, weapons, cosmetics and story content, Digital Extremes having reserved some of the key reveals for a happier period, "Today" - which, according to our most trusted seers, will be an era of understanding and transparency. Fickle are the winds of history! Still, even with the limited insight of our time, we grasped at some sense of the offering's magnitude. Read on, if you dare.

Just when the world thought they'd seen the last bit of Warframe news from Tennocon 2023, Digital Extremes revealed a short tease for Warframe 1999. Coming in 2024, it's a drastic new setting for the MMORPG.

A blast from the past, we see a black-haired fella fending off various bio-tech monsters as he hunts down Master Entrati (who plays a major part in the Whipsers in the Walls update also shown off during the show), thousands upon thousands of years before Warframe as we know it takes place. How exactly this work remains a tantalizing mystery, but one we're keen to find out more about.

This of course all comes with a slick soundtrack, taking us back to the era and setting the stage even further away from the futuristic chants, hymns, and synths Warframe has thrown at us over the last 10 years.

Warframe has just gotten a brand-new reveal trailer for an upcoming major update titled: Whispers in the Walls. In it, players will explore a newfound zone, take on two new enemy factions, and wrap up some long-lasting plot threads.

Set on Deimos behind where Loid currently sells Nercramech parts, Tenno will be able to venture down into the bowels of the planetoid into a vast underground lab where shiny new loot, enemies, and mysteries can be found. Necramech enemies shamble through the halls, while deeper down, The Murmour slam the horror to the max with amalgamations of limbs that shamble towards you.

For braving said dangers, players will be able to grab themselves a brand-new grimoire weapon type from the labs, as well as a variety of other treasure in line with big updates in the past. A sizable expansion to the game, similar in size to the Angels of the Zariman and Duviri Paradox updates before.
