Deep Strike: Attack and Defend Important Infrastructure!

[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]Pilots, get yourself ready, as it’s time for takeoff! Today we’re introducing the Deep Strike event — an asymmetrical game mode where one team attacks and the other defends important infrastructure in one of several locations.[/p][p][/p][p]Take part in this two-day event and try out new mechanics that we’re working on! Read on to learn more about Deep Strike.[/p][p][/p]
[p]When: From October 22nd (11:00 GMT) until October 24th (11:00 GMT)[/p][p]Where: Events and Tournaments -> Deep Strike[/p]
[p] [/p]
How does Deep Strike work?
[p]For those of you who have already played the “Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses” (SEAD) event back in April, you’ll feel familiar with Deep Strike, as the vehicles, operational logic and many other aspects are similar. However, instead of a SAM site, the key objective is now industrial facilities that can be destroyed dynamically. Below, we’ll dive into the new objective for both teams first, and then we’ll cover what else is similar to the SEAD event.[/p][p][/p]
Destroy or Defend an oil refinery or power plant!
[p][/p][p]In Deep Strike, the defending team must protect an oil refinery or power plant composed of dozens of buildings that have their own damage model, protected by AI-controlled Rapier and ZSU-23-4V Shilka systems. Both of these systems pose a deadly threat to the attacking team, who will have to devise tactics to engage, destroy, evade and effectively utilize their available arsenal to complete their objective.[/p][p][/p]
Roles and Objectives
[p][/p]
Attacking team
[p]As an attacker, your objective is to inflict as much damage as possible to the oil refinery or power plant. You’ll have access to a helicopter as well as a plane, offering new opportunities for stealth attacks and precision missile strikes. The plane of choice to serve as the main strike force for the attacker side is the F-4E Phantom II, armed with missiles and bombs to destroy the infrastructure and SAM systems, along with air-to-air missiles to destroy enemy aircraft. The AH-1F helicopter is armed with ATGMs and unguided rockets to precisely destroy the defending team’s SAM systems.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Defending team
[p]As a defender, your objective is to protect the infrastructure from the incoming attacker team. Coordinate with your allies and build a layered defense to prevent the attackers from carrying out their objective. You’ll pilot the formidable MiG-21bis, armed with air-to-air missiles to take out the enemy Phantoms and AH-1Fs.[/p][p][/p]
Event Features
• [p]The gameplay in this event is asymmetrical: one team attacks and the other defends. This requires you to adapt to different roles and strategies.[/p]
 • [p]There are no enemy markers on aircraft or on the map. Use your aircraft’s systems and your experience to find and destroy your enemies.[/p]
 • [p]Each player has 3 respawns available, giving both teams the opportunity to experiment with tactics. The attacking team can also alternate the aircraft they use.[/p]
 • [p]The attacking team has access to both planes and helicopters, providing unique opportunities to coordinate attacks to destroy enemies from afar and support allied aircraft.[/p]
 • [p]All players who have an aircraft at rank V or higher in their hangar can take part in the event.[/p]
 • [p]The vehicles used in the event are issued automatically and do not need to be purchased.[/p]
 • [p]Respawning in a vehicle requires Silver Lions, which are returned at the end of the mission if the plane or helicopter wasn’t destroyed, or when leaving the vehicle in a safe exit zone. The number of Silver Lions returned depends on the vehicle’s condition.[/p]
 • [p]Safe exit zones become available once all weapons of a certain type have been used. If you respawn with anti-ground weapons, you must use them all; air-to-air missiles are not counted; if you respawn with only air-to-air missiles, you must use them.[/p]
 • [p]You can earn research points and Silver Lions in the Deep Strike event.[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][carousel][/carousel][p][/p]
Why not in random battles?
[p]Asymmetrical modes aren’t for everyone, as they require a special approach. If players were to play this mode in random battles with their own vehicle lineups, their vehicles and ordnance would likely be ineffective or too powerful in a specialized mission like Deep Strike. Deep Strike requires specific vehicles and ordnance for engaging and effective gameplay.[/p][p][/p]
Air War
[p]As with the SEAD event, we’re using Deep Strike as a testing ground for ideas that we’re exploring in a new type of operation for World War Mode, called Aerial Warfare. In this event, players will only control aircraft (ground vehicles will be controlled by AI), and the focus will be on aerial combat and strategic objectives. We’ll tell you more about Aerial Warfare at a later date![/p][p][/p][p]Don’t miss your chance to participate in this unique event from October 22nd to 24th! We’re also planning to re-launch Deep Strike again in an upcoming weekend, which we’ll announce soon, so stay tuned for the details there.[/p][p][/p][p]Get ready for intense aerial battles that will require teamwork and excellent piloting skills, and be sure to share your thoughts about this event with us. See you in the skies![/p]

Pre-order: IJN Nagato

[p][/p][p][/p][p]Meet one of the most famous battleships of the Pacific Theater: IJN Nagato, arriving with powerful weapons and a hefty anti-aircraft battery to the high ranks of Japan![/p][p][/p]
[p]IJN Nagato: A Premium Battleship for Japan at Rank VI[/p]
[p]At a glance:[/p]
 • [p]410 mm main guns[/p]
 • [p]Powerful secondary armament[/p]
 • [p]Extensive anti-aircraft battery[/p]
 • [p]Average survivability[/p]
 • [p]Decent mobility[/p]
[p] [/p]
Vehicle History
[p]Nagato is the lead of a two-ship class, and was the world’s first ship to be armed with 410 mm guns. Designed and built in Japan as part of the 1916 program, she embodied many modern ideas of the time: an “all or nothing” armor layout, two armored decks, and improved anti-torpedo defense.[/p][p][/p][p]Nagato played a key role in several Japanese operations. She provided cover for the carrier strike force during the attack on Pearl Harbor and took part in the Battle of Midway and the Philippine Sea. In October 1944 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Nagato was hit by two bombs but continued to fight, damaging the American escort carrier St. Lo.[/p][p][/p][p]While stationed at Yokosuka at the end of the war, Nagato was heavily damaged in an air raid while providing coastal defense support. After Japan’s surrender, Nagato was handed over to the United States and was sunk in 1946 during nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll. Nagato’s remains now rest on the lagoon floor and have become a popular diving attraction.[/p][p][/p]

 • [p]Pre-order bonus: unique “Tora! Tora! Tora!” decal[/p][p][/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Introducing IJN Nagato!
[p]One of Japan’s most powerful battleships of the interwar period is coming to the game in the next major update in her 1944 configuration, featuring superb firepower and good mobility for a vessel of her size. Available for pre-order from today, IJN Nagato will become a stellar premium alternative to her near identical sister, with an improved anti-air battery and the improved Type 91 AP shell. Let’s take a look![/p][p][/p][p]Speaking of, if you’ve fought in higher ranked naval battles in War Thunder you’ve likely encountered IJN Nagato’s sister IJN Mutsu, an extremely dangerous rank VI Japanese battleship. IJN Nagato functions very similarly, featuring eight 410 mm main guns with a relatively high rate of fire and good ballistics, the high shell velocity makes hitting targets at long ranges easy, and the new Type 91 AP shell will make long range combat even more effective.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Her secondary armament is similarly impressive, sporting eighteen 140 mm casemate guns reinforced by four twin-mounted 127 mm dual-purpose guns. Unlike her sister, who is slightly less endowed in the anti-air department, IJN Nagato is bustling with AA defenses. She’s reinforced with rapid-fire 25 mm automatic cannons in triple, twin and single mounts, totaling 101 barrels! This gives IJN Nagato some solid versatility, with her 127 mm guns dealing with threats from afar, while her 25 mm cannons can shred anything that dares to get close.[/p][p][/p][p]Speed is also rather impressive — around 26.5 knots (up to 50 km/h). For her size she can maneuver and turn well, making her much more reactive to incoming threats from different directions.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]IJN Nagato’s armor is overall somewhat average, but very strong in the areas where it’s needed most. All of her protection is concentrated around the citadel, which will prove useful, but it does result in elements such as the steering gear being vulnerable. The reinforced armor on the magazines, turrets, and barbettes can withstand battleship shells at medium to long ranges, but the engine and boiler rooms in the center of the ship remain relatively unprotected. As a result, try to remain on the move and at range when commanding IJN Nagato, changing angle and direction when enemy shells start getting close.[/p][p][/p][p]The premium Nagato is already available in the store as a pre-order pack which comes with unique in-game bonuses, Premium Account time, and a hefty supply of Golden Eagles. We’re very pleased to welcome IJN Nagato to the game, she’s almost ready and will be the perfect companion in your journey through the Japanese bluewater fleet when the next major update releases![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]That’s all from us today, thanks for reading and stick around for more blogs on the upcoming major update, see you soon![/p][p][/p][p]Please note that the vehicle's characteristics may be changed before it is added to the game.[/p]

Update 2.49.0.73

[p][/p]
Ground Vehicles
• [p]Merkava Mk.4 (all variants), Strv 122 (all variants) — a bug that caused the composite armor on the turret roof to be treated as a solid sheet of steel when calculating protection against high-explosive shells, which could result in an overestimated protection at certain angles of attack has been fixed. Previously due to this bug, these tanks could for example survive hits to the turret roof by heavy air fired missiles and large-caliber bombs.[/p]
[p] [/p]
Interface
• [p]A bug that prevented the action to spawn an aircraft with a nuclear bomb from appearing in the action panel when playing as the launcher of a Multi-Vehicle SAM system has been fixed.[/p]
 • [p]A bug on ground vehicles where the laser warning direction indicator was displayed incorrectly if the vehicle's hull was not pointing directly at the source has been fixed.[/p]
 • [p]A bug where the radar indicator on aircraft could sometimes freeze and stop updating its state when switching the selected radar target has been fixed. (Report).[/p]
[p] [/p]
Replays
• [p]A bug where the free camera in replays would become detached from the player after they respawned has been fixed.[/p]
[p][/p]

[p]Patch notes reflect only key changes, meaning they may not include a complete list of all improvements made. Additionally, War Thunder is constantly being updated and some changes may not require an update. Changes reflected in patch notes are formed by taking reactions and requests of the community from the bug reporting service, forums and other official platforms into account. Bug fixes and changes are implemented in order of importance, for example a game-breaking bug will be worked on and implemented sooner.[/p]
