Early Access Companions Update

Happy Friday, everyone!

The Companions Update is here, beginning the feature that enables you to recruit the first companion into their party.

To unlock companion recruitment, you must reach the rank of Regular.

Once you get that promotion, a new badge will appear on the map, near the shop.

Clicking on the recruitment badge will display a screen with three candidates, who are fixed for now but will be random in the future.

The three candidates are the three brothers initially planned for the now-defunct Story Mode.

Other changes of note:
  • Combat at-a-glance improvements that will now enable you to quickly tell if an enemy has a reaction or armor card in their hand; you can now also tell which combatants are in the back line by the arrow that appears on the side of their health bar;
  • Adjusted Deserters to provide more of a challenge and the gold rewards; defeating more difficult enemies now awards more gold pieces
  • Various visual fixes

Enjoy!

Early Access Version is Live!

Hi Everyone,

With great excitement, we release Unsung Ballads into Early Access!

Our main goal is to use this opportunity to build a community around this game, validate our vision and work, and use the community's feedback to guide the development focus.

When we initially set out to create this game, we were thinking of doing a story-driven card battler, and using the roguelike mode as a stepping stone, but plans changed. The roguelike mode is now the game's only mode, and the story-driven mode will probably have to wait until our next game.

We still have a lot of work ahead, and the game might feel more like a prototype than a game in alpha/beta. This is why we're keeping the Playtest open for the foreseeable future, instead of launching a demo for it! We believe a demo makes more sense when the game is much closer to full release.

To reiterate: You can try our game for free by registering for the open playtest. Access is granted instantly so that you can play right away!

If you get stuck, need guidance, or want to learn more about the game, we already have a guide on Steam. It can be accessed from the game menu and will open in the Steam Application. You can also access the guide through the Steam Community Hub Guides.

Bugs can be reported on the Steam Forums or our Discord server.

We also present you with our roadmap to full release:

Enjoy!

Official Game Guide

Hi All,

While we work on the game, there are going to be things not obvious, unexplained, or not fully fleshed out.
