The Boston & Albany – Boston to Springfield Route for Train Simulator Classic, created by accomplished developer G-TraX, is now available and delivers 100+ miles of extraordinary and classic railroading! Get 10% off this route for launch as part of the Spring Sale.

As masterfully fashioned by G-TraX, the Boston & Albany route for Train Simulator Classic features the eastern portion of the historic B&A extending ~100 multi-track main line route miles from magnificent South Station in Boston to West Springfield, Massachusetts. Chartered in 1833, the B&A's east end was opened as the Boston & Worcester in 1835. The Western Railroad completed the route to Springfield in 1840, then crossed the Berkshires, reaching the Hudson River at Rensselaer in 1841. In 1867, the two roads were consolidated as the Boston & Albany, then in 1900, the B&A was leased by the New York Central. In 1961, the B&A was formally merged into New York Central.

The new Boston & Albany route for Train Simulator Classic is richly detailed and populated with beautiful renditions of such historic landmarks as Boston South Station, Worcester Union Station, and the superlative stone stations designed by noted 19th-century architect Henry Hobson Richardson. The B&A was a passenger-hauler, but also a vital and bustling freight artery for the New York Central and the Boston & Albany – Boston to Springfield Route features freight terminals at locations including Beacon Park, Worcester, and West Springfield, as well as numerous online shippers and key rail interchange points.

Joining the memorable Alco PA and included with the route are NYC’s workhorse Alco RS3 diesel road-switcher and Alco FA freight locomotive, plus the B&A’s own venerable Alco HH600 diesel switcher. Operations on the B&A required a wide range of rolling stock, and the B&A route provides a diverse selection of passenger and freight equipment true to the era. And to put you right to work as a B&A engineer, the route includes twelve career scenarios featuring passenger, freight, and switching challenges.

New Zealand Kb Class – Out Now

2023 celebrates 100 years since the opening of New Zealand’s Alpine Railway, The Midland Line or ‘Kb Country’ as it was, and sometimes still is, affectionately known as – and what better way to celebrate than with the mighty Kb class itself for Train Simulator Classic! Available now on the Steam Store.

Experience heavy-haul steam in style with the latest addition to the Train Simulator Classic New Zealand loco lineup, the striking Kb Class from NZTS Workshops is ready for work on the detailed Midland Line.

Traffic on the Midland Line was heavy and constant, its importance led to many trains, both passenger and freight, traversing the line each day. As things progressed, many of the original steam locomotives built for the line were no longer up to the task, struggling in double-headed formation to meet with increasing demand.

Enter the Kb Class, a heavy and powerful 4-8-4 configuration steam locomotive which, as soon as the Midland Line’s viaducts and infrastructure were strengthened to support bigger traction, transformed freight traffic on the line. The fleet of Kb Class locomotives, thanks to their innovative booster engine which helped trains over the toughest of terrain, ensured a reliable movement of freight, even running ahead of schedule.

In Train Simulator Classic, experience the Kb Class in their waning years before the advent of dieselisation, brave the elements and conquer the Midland Line in this imposing and powerful steam mountain workhorse.
