Since our last playtest, our developers have been working hard on lots of exciting updates that you’ll be able to experience very soon!
We wanted to share some of the key things we’ve been working on, along with insights from the team.
This week, we’re taking a deep dive into the Soul Mirror.
We're really excited to bring more functionality back to the Safehouse. In the last playtest, use of the Soul Mirror was temporarily removed, but for our next big playtest (TBA), it will be returning!
So, what’s the Soul Mirror all about, and how will it impact your gameplay experience?
Let’s hear from Calum, our UI wizard, as he breaks down the work he’s been doing on the Soul Mirror:
What is the Soul Mirror?
The Soul Mirror is the player's primary interface to their collection of characters—both Human and Demon. Here, players can equip characters, read their lore, and acquire new ones. Each character in
The Bornless has their own story and can be individually levelled up, rewarding players with cosmetic unlocks and eventually unlocking a corrupted variant of the character.
On the Demon side, the Soul Mirror allows players to preview each Demon’s unique abilities, unlock rewards through levelling, and even purchase new Demons.
What have you been working on with the Soul Mirror?
The Soul Mirror system has undergone a complete overhaul. However, it isn’t just a task for the UI Team alone; it requires extensive collaboration with the 3D Design Team to create new Human and Demon characters. Our Narrative Department also plays a key role crafting intertwined stories about each character, detailing their history with Farmouth Island and what their motivations are for being there.
Meanwhile, the UI Team has been building out all the front-end functionality to smoothly navigate these systems. And, at this stage, all the necessary 2D art is also in production.
What can players expect when using the Soul Mirror?
New characters and Demons… lots of them!
We’re really looking forward to the Soul Mirror going live and rewarding players for using their favourite characters. You'll have the opportunity to preview playable Demons in detail, including breakdowns of their skills, attacks, and more.
With this update, players will also be able to buy and equip new characters and Demons—something we’re very excited for you to explore!
What were some of the biggest challenges in designing the Soul Mirror interface?
One of the main challenges we've faced is ensuring the Soul Mirror has a great user experience—not just for keyboard-and-mouse users, but also for players who prefer controllers. Ensuring the interface is intuitive and enjoyable for both input methods has been a major focus for us.
