I'm bothering the gods in Roman Empire city builder Nova Roma's new demo, and it might not be the best idea

Whether it's in Final Fantasy, Elden Ring, or Hades 2, clashing with the very gods themselves has long been a fundamental part of video games. However, the longer I ignore the ire of the Roman Pantheon in Nova Roma, the more I start to worry that it's not the best idea. This beautiful town-planning newcomer from Kingdoms and Castles dev Lion Shield and indie strategy publisher Hooded Horse has a demo out now on Steam, so you can try taking a more measured approach to your dealings with the deities - or, like me, see how long their tempers will last.

Nova Roma Demo is Now Available!

[p]Hi everyone, [/p][p][/p][p]We're excited to announce the demo for Nova Roma is now available on Steam! We've been working on this game for quite a while and we're happy to finally be able to share a preview of it with you all. Roman Empire city builder Nova Roma will test your disaster management, from flooded aqueducts to the wrath of the gods

As much as I love laying out infrastructure and planning traffic routes, when I think back to the best city builders in history, from SimCity 2000 through to Cities Skylines, it's the times things went wrong that stick in my mind. Dealing with disaster is a crucial part of good town management, and newcomer Nova Roma will put those skills through their paces. The beautiful Roman Empire sim from Lion Shield and indie strategy publisher Hooded Horse has finally set a date, and we'll be getting our hands on it in January.

Nova Roma Hits Early Access January 2026!

We're excited to announce that Nova Roma has an official Early Access release date: January 22, 2026. [/p][p][/p][p]We had originally hoped to release this year, but it turns out the three of us need some extra time to polish the game and make our Early Access launch as smooth as possible. It's definitely disappointing to have to wait longer, but we do have some good news: you'll be able to try the game this year! We will be releasing a public demo for Nova Roma on December 5. [/p][p][/p][p]We're excited to be getting closer to release (even if it's a bit farther out than we first hoped). In the meantime, check out our new launch date trailer:[/p]
