MENACE Demo Update #2 (v0.5.6)

[p]Patch 2 for the MENACE demo is now live.[/p][p]Make sure to leave a review for the demo and join our discord server or forums to connect with fellow players, leave feedback and share the most powerful tactics.[/p][p][/p][h3]Bugfixes[/h3]
  • [p]FIXED Destroyed player vehicles caused the game to be stuck on mission failure.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED All squad leaders now have a chance to comment on the mission success.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Perk 'Vanguard' now increases the deployment zone by a minimum of 3 tiles.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Ground Radar now shows the VFX for marked enemies in fog of war.[/p]
  • [p]Disabled 'Crawl' skill while being in a watchtower, as it currently leads to many issues.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Mission duration wasn't displayed correctly in the mission result screen if the duration was more than one hour.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Weapon slots were not displayed properly in the mission result screen.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Vehicle skill 'Plow Through' is no longer affected by malfunction.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Night vision googles don't turn the whole screen black anymore.[/p]
  • [p]FIXED Various types of typos.[/p]
[h3]Balancing[/h3]
  • [p]Perk 'Scavenger' now allows all player units to pick up ammo refills.[/p]
  • [p]Drones and pinned down units are now excluded from capturing objectives.[/p]
  • [p]Player vehicles are now included in capturing objectives.[/p]
  • [p]Enemies now need more time to capture zones.[/p]
[h3]Improvements[/h3]
  • [p]Watchtowers and bunkers are now outlined in blue on the mission preparation map.[/p]
  • [p]Added animations for heavy weapons when crawling.[/p]
  • [p]Added new destroyed IED model.[/p]

  • [p]Moving the skybot through fences or other environment models freezes the game.[/p]

  • [p]"Crawl" and "Smoke Grenades" should no longer cause the game to get stuck.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed various Jetpack issues.[/p]
  • [p]"Weapon Destroyed" effect should now work as expected.[/p]
  • [p]Local allied forces don't attack empty pirate trucks anymore.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed various missing icons and visual glitches.[/p]
  • [p]Ranks and their insignias now match up accordingly.[/p]
  • [p]Volume settings now work as expected.[/p]
[h3]Balancing:[/h3]
  • [p]Increased all frag grenade elements' hit percentage from 40% up to 70%. This means each individual squaddie has a 70% chance to be hit, making fragmentation particularly effective vs. large squads.[/p]
  • [p]Reduced pirate flame tank hitpoints down to 200 and armor durability down to 300.[/p]
  • [p]Reduced pirate large transport truck hitpoints down to 140 and armor durability down to 200.[/p]
  • [p]Increased watchtower hitpoints to 300, armor durability to 400.[/p]
[h3]Improvements:[/h3]
  • [p]The camera focuses on enemies attacking from the fog of war now. [/p]

Anticipated 'space XCOM' tactical RPG Menace delayed again, but a demo's out now

Good turn-based strategy games are hard to come by in this day and age. However, last year's Battle Brothers was a bona fide hit. From its unique art direction to the great tactical gameplay, it made a splash with fans of the genre, landing an impressive 88% 'very positive' rating on Steam. Developer Overhype Studios is doubling down on its turn-based masterclass with tactical RPG Menace, which now finally has a solid release date. Unfortunately for fans expecting it to launch this year, you'll have to wait a little longer to get your hands on the game.

Early Access for MENACE launches on February 5, 2026, and you can try the demo today. The demo lets you try out an operation, build and manage squads, and take them into combat missions.

Join us on Discord, the Steam forums, and /r/MENACE to share your feedback and discuss your experience with the demo. We’ll also be reading every Steam review, so if you’d like to leave your thoughts there, we greatly value it as we head toward Early Access.

Dev Diary #35: MENACE Demo Launches September 29, 2025

Hey folks, we're incredibly excited to announce that the MENACE demo is going live on September 29, 2025. Check out the release map below to see when the demo goes live for you in your region.

We’re locking in the last updates and fixes as we head into the demo's launch. We know that releasing a demo means a flood of feedback and bug reports, which is why it’s being released on a Monday. With the full team in place, we’ll be ready to tackle issues, answer your questions on Discord, and most importantly, see all of you enjoy the demo.


[h2]What to Expect[/h2][hr][/hr]The demo offers a focused slice of the game with one operation, squad management, missions, and combat.

[h3]Operations and Replayability[/h3]Operations consist of multiple missions on a desert biome planet, giving you access to the tactical layer of the game. They are procedurally generated from a pool of ten mission types, so you can replay them as often as you like, even within this demo slice. Different operations can branch into multiple paths leading to the final mission


[h3]Squad Management[/h3]You’ll have six squad leaders to build your team, supported by a wide range of infantry weapons, special weapons, armor, and accessories. Leaders can be upgraded through promotions, and you can draw from a limited pool of squaddies in the upper left of the loadout screen to expand your squads.

Note: Supplies are limited, so not every squad can enter battle fully equipped.

[h3]Mission Prep[/h3]Mission prep lets you position squads within the deployment zone, adjust loadouts if you’re over or under the supply limit shown in the bottom left, and then launch into combat.

Note: Hovering over enemy squads can provide you with the type of unit you'll be up against.

[h3]Combat[/h3]Once planetside, you’ll face the pirate faction, working to keep your squads alive while completing the mission objective.
