"Lost Castle 2" Development Log #3: Ethereal Treasure

In our last update, we provided an overview of some new features in "Lost Castle 2." This time, we'll specifically delve into the "Ethereal Treasure" system. This is one of the newly added in-game progression systems in the sequel. As treasure hunters embark on their adventures, they'll receive various types of rewards, including Ethereal Treasures. These treasures come with different passive effects. Additionally, hunters also have a chance to obtain rune stones of different colors. When these rune stones are combined with Ethereal Treasures, they enhance the abilities of the treasure hunters from various dimensions. This, in turn, affects players' decisions regarding weapon and equipment choices, as well as other strategic decisions.

The Ethereals are a mysterious race with the ability to freely traverse through time and space. Among them, three Ethereal factions roam various timelines, collecting a variety of treasures. They inscribe the runes of their factions on the treasures they collect, imbuing them with powerful magical energies. It is these runic imprints that make Ethereal Treasures so enticing to treasure hunters.




In the game, there will be three types of Ethereal Runes:

1. Akhil Rune (Red): The Akhil Runes provide treasure hunters with additional attack power. As the number of Rune Stones increases, special attack effects are triggered.

2. Parati Rune (Green): The Parati Runes grant treasure hunters extra vitality. When the quantity of Rune Stones reaches a certain threshold, a special effect called "Rune Quake" is activated.

3. Nairu Rune (Blue): The Nairu Runes enable hunters to recover mana faster during battles. When the accumulation reaches a certain level, it activates the "Rune Burst" state, continuously launching runic projectiles at nearby enemies.In the game, there will be three types of Ethereal Runes:




During adventures, treasure hunters acquire a variety of ethereal treasures, each adorned with runes of different colors. These runes bestow additional enhancements to the treasure hunter's abilities. Apart from elevating the attributes of the treasure hunter and triggering unique runic effects, the accumulation of runic power serves as the key to unlocking latent effects within ethereal treasures.

Development Log #2 for "Lost Castle 2": A New Castle, A New Treasure Adventure

Players of "Lost Castle 2" continue to take on the role of brave and greedy treasure hunters, embarking on a new adventure set in the forgotten Black Castle nestled in the border mountains.

① New Cartoon Visual Style
In "Lost Castle 2," we have endeavored to create a more detailed visual and animation design. We've attempted to blend 2D character animations with 3D scenes, carefully designing the action animations for each character and boss. This ensures that each monster and boss has a unique combat mechanism and performance.



② Brand-New Action and Weapon Systems
"Lost Castle 2" will feature a more rich and sophisticated action mechanism and weapon system. Each weapon obtained during the adventure has its unique action system, and every weapon comes with randomly generated enchantments, further influencing the maximum operational gains. Each action of the weapons in the game presents players with decision-making opportunities, providing a more diverse action experience.

We will provide six different action mechanisms, each associated with a different weapon type:

Single-Handed Weapon


- Single-handed weapons combine agile attack actions with the ability to defend using a shield. Successfully defending against enemy attacks with a single-handed weapon will not result in losing health; instead, it consumes the hunter's current "Block Points." Each use of the shield to successfully defend against enemy attacks will consume "Block Points," which rapidly recovers during non-defensive actions.
- In addition to defense, skilled treasure hunters can use shield counters against upcoming enemy attacks to achieve higher weapon operational gains.

Two-Handed Weapon


- Two-handed weapons are core-heavy weapons that require skillful use of "Charge Attack." They feature two different charged attack actions: a horizontal swing and a vertical chop.
- Simultaneously holding both attack actions initiates a "Power Charge." The "Power Charge Attack" is the most powerful attack for two-handed weapons.

Dual Blades


- Dual blades are agile and nimble weapons known for their high-speed and high-frequency attacks.
- Normal attacks with dual blades accumulate "Combo Points." When there are "Combo Points," treasure hunters can use high-performance finishing attacks, consuming "Combo Points" to deal additional damage.

Bow


- The bow is agile and fast long-range weapons.
- The bow can accumulate "Concentration Value" through normal or special attacks. When "Concentration Value" is full, you can get a “Concentration Point”,which can make the special attack of the bow turn into a powerful shot with exceptional performance.

Staff


- The staff is a medium-range weapon that leans towards skillful use of weapon skills and has a more efficient mana recovery rate than other weapons.
- Similar to the bow and arrow, the staff has a resource mechanism. Any attack gains "Mana Energy," and when "Mana Energy" is full it will becoms “Energy Points”, treasure hunters can perform powerful attacks that recover more mana.

Turbo Lance


- The turbo lance is a mechanically unique weapon. Normal attacks accumulate weapon "Pressure Value," and special actions consume pressure points to release a powerful "Releasing Cannon."
- When "Pressure Value" are full, continuous attacks increase pressure, allowing the turbo lance to enter an overloaded state. In the overloaded state, the character's performance and weapon attacks are significantly enhanced, and the weapon attacks also come with enchanted attributes. However, after the overload ends, the turbo lance enters a cooldown state, during which the weapon can only perform slower hammer strikes.

《Lost Castle 2》Development Log #1

Dear fellow treasure hunters! Thanks for all your enduring support of "Lost Castle"!

This is the first public development log for "Lost Castle 2." In the future, we will consistently update information related to the game's development in these logs. Upon the foundation of "Lost Castle," the core gameplay of "Lost Castle 2" remains a Beat em'up Rogue-lite, but there will be significant changes in the game's action system and pace! Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming development logs.




In June of this year, at the G-Fusion Game Fest, "Lost Castle 2" made its debut in the form of an offline demo, allowing players to get a firsthand experience. Later, at the end of August, we gathered a small group of dedicated fans from "Lost Castle" for the first playtest, receiving valuable feedback and suggestions.
The development team sincerely thanks all the hunters who participated in the playtest and everyone who has supported "Lost Castle." We are committed to developing an enjoyable game!

Additionally, "Lost Castle 2" has been nominated for "EXCELLENCE IN VISUAL ART" and "THE INDIEPLAY AWARD" at this year's Indieplay China Indie Game Awards. As a result, we will showcase the game at the WePlay Expo in Shanghai on November 18th and 19th. We welcome everyone to join the playtest, and for those unable to attend, you can catch our game livestream on Steam.

As we continue to develop and refine the game, we will invite more players to participate in playtests, collectively building the castle. Notifications about this will be made through community announcements.
