We're back with another Planetiles devlog - this time focusing on cataclysms. Cataclysms occur frequently in Planetiles and are directly related to the score. Want to get a better grasp of the rules in our upcoming tile-based citybuilder? Read our first devlog that focuses on the basics.

[h3]How Volcanic Eruption works?[/h3]

Volcanic Eruption is the type of cataclysm that players will encounter in Planetiles - one of the most devastating torrents in the game. With every 500 points earned, players get to choose between two pairs of upgrades and cataclysms, as shown on the slate below:



Once Volcanic Eruption occurs, it will destroy 6 random tiles within the vicinity of max 6 tiles. It won't destroy itself or any already built structures (evolved from 3x3 tiles). Volcano counts as the Mountain, however it is not upgradable as other not-yet raised Mountain Observatories.

[h3]How to prepare for Volcanic Eruption?[/h3]

Volcanic Eruption may ruin your plans in pursuit of the perfect score so how can you prepare for it? This particular cataclym proves to cause the most damage in the later stages of your playthrough - destroying 1x1 chunks when your planet is almost fully terraformed leaves players with blank spots that are quite hard to fill. That is why it is advised to build structures that offer 1x1 chunks - wheter its the Mountain or Forest - they help you to keep your planet safe and your score high.





Still fear that the Volcanic Eruption will destroy important chunks of your not-yet raised structures? There is a number of ways that you can still avoid this cataclym - for example by enabling the Planet Protector feature, that we will cover in the next Planetiles devlogs.

We're back with another exciting event and this time - you're all invited to participate! Together with our Publisher - The Iterative Collective - we're organising #NebulaScorefest to celebrate the newest demo and your involvement in Planetiles.

To get a better hang of what's going on in our tile-based space citybuilder, we recently shared the Devlog #1 showcasing The Basics and most important rules. Make sure to check it out before travelling to deep space to save humanity.

For the whole month of November we will be celebrating and highlighting your Planetiles scores. There are no strings attached - the higher your score the better and if you feel like your score is scratching the ceiling - make sure to share it! Platform doesn't matter - it can be shared on social media with a hashtag #NebulaScorefest.

1. Play Planetiles demo
2. Try your best and share the endslate with your score (pictured below)



3. Post your highscore on socials with the #NebulaScorefest hashtag until November 30th or jump on our discord channel
4. Win stellar prizes:

[h3]What's next?[/h3]

We're developing Planetiles according to plan and should have a new demo somewhere around mid-November. Our goal with the next demo iteration is to give players a glimpse into progression and roguelike elements that we're currently working on. Final stage of the demo will be presented during Steam Next Fest 2024 February edition so make sure to wishlist our stellar tiler and stay up to date with all the news 👇

We're excited to be back with another update as Planetiles is selected for Polaris Con event in Hamburg, Germany this weekend! Between 13th-15th October, visitors of Hamburg Messe will get a chance to check out our upcoming space citybuilder new demo live - make sure to check out all the details on Polaris Con official website.



Planetiles will be a part of Indie Area with its own separate stand - demo is perfectly compatible with Steam Deck and we'd like to invite all attending guests to come, visit and check out our upcoming game. Our booth is located in Hall A1 and the number is 157.8.

We're working hard on Planetiles and just released a new demo with lots of improvements and balancing based on our community's feedback. We're thankful for all the suggestions and replies shared during Gamescom, PAX West and online. Our plan is to continue with demo updates and leave it available to public as we're always interested to see how players react to these changes.

Now, let's see the full new demo changelog:

• Redesigned missions and structure icons

• Cataclysms and Buffs now occur every time players cross 500 points instead of 1000
  
• Fully populated planets now offer x100 bonus instead of x1000 for the remaining chunks
  
• Improved camera controls and zooming while using a controller

• Improved animations and sounds during cataclysms
  
  General
• Fixed the bug when upgrading structures caused arrow artifacts to pop in
  
• Fixed the bug when animals and harvesters were visible outside of their tiles
  
• Fixed the bug when controller input was sometimes not registered correctly
  
• Improved overall game performance on Linux and macOS
