Forensic Friday 58: REFRAMING AS A STORY GENERATOR, A PRE-LIFE CRISIS

Hey everyone! Forensic Friday is a bit late, but we're in a transition week as we onboard new developers and reorganize tasks. Exciting changes ahead! We're shifting from a traditional game to a story generator, aiming for a serious sprint from January to March.

We're changing our workflow with the team growing. Moving to an "agile" approach, breaking down tasks into smaller, atomic ones. This allows flexibility and hopefully reduces burnout. Multiple features can be worked on simultaneously, making us more efficient.

I've been focusing on completing crucial features for the game, encountering a bug with anomaly transport vessels. Also, introducing the EATS classification cube for anomalies to communicate their properties quickly. A shift in game design focus—now we're emphasizing the game as a story generator, impacting future design decisions.

This change in perspective is inspired by a GDC talk by Tynan Sylvester. Our goal is to combine the compelling gameplay of Prison Architect and the story-generation potential of Rimworld. The game should evoke diverse emotions in characters, creating loss and conflict for a compelling story.

It's Forensic Friday, and we're making strides towards the final stages of game development. This week, we focused on the 3D research tree, featuring colorful and navigable nodes. The research process is straightforward, and we're introducing "Mystery nodes" for added excitement. We've also received a great response from composers interested in the project. We're likely to have a composer on board soon.

Bonus Lore: Do we actually have a lawyer? Find that answer out in the full blog post! (This is bait)

FORENSIC FRIDAY IS BACK BABY! Forensic Friday 55 (where did the others go?)

In our latest Forensic Friday, we're excited to share significant updates. We've been working on a Research Screen and revamping our Experiment System. Our hiatus was due to work-life balance issues, prompting us to expand our team with a programmer, Matt, and a dedicated writer, Louis. We're changing our roadmap approach to batches for better communication. Our focus is on team expansion, completing the prototype, and securing funding, with a revised release date between Christmas 2024 and June 2025. Also Crazy News. Tynan Sylvester, Rimworld's creator, noticed our project!

Hey there! It's been quite a month since we dived into our utility AI overhaul. It took four times longer than expected, but it's been worth it. We've wrapped up mod support, and you can now fully integrate mods into the game. We've even made the UI moddable!

We had to pause our roadmap to tackle the AI overhaul, but we're making progress. Hauling and Builders are already done, simplifying our codebase.

Our main menu got a facelift too, with a new design for better readability. We've made changes to our Discord server, gearing up for more marketing efforts, and we're open to community event ideas.

Spread the word about the game, and remember, Mechanical Monday is now Mythology Monday in Discord for lore and world-building discussions.

Thanks for staying tuned to Forensic Friday – more exciting updates from the Containcorp team coming soon! 🎮👾
