Inspector Schmidt - The Ebbing News

We're taking our demo offline!

Moin moin, dear community!

On December 6, 2024, we’ll be taking our current demo offline. If you’ve already installed it, it will remain in your library. If not, NOW is the time to grab it before it’s gone.
Wait, why are you taking the demo offline?
As you might have noticed, we’re deep into the hot development phase of Inspector Schmidt - The Ebbing. This also means we’re thinking about our release date and the marketing activities ahead. To ensure our game reaches as many people as possible, we want to take full advantage of the tools Steam offers. One of these involves the demo — but we don’t want to spoil anything, so we’ll keep our cards close to our chest for now.

If you’d like to stay updated on The Ebbing, we’d love for you to join our Discord server or subscribe to our newsletter! Of course, we’ll also continue to post updates here on Steam when there’s news to share.

Until next time!

Gamescom 2024

Moin! Will we see you at Gamescom 2024?

Active Fungus will be at Gamescom 2024! We look forward to meet, chat and show you what we’ve been busy with for the last year. Find us at the Home of Indies booth E010 - D011 - Hall 10.2 and test our newest demo of Inspector Schmidt - The Ebbing, the sequel to our very first game Inspector Schmidt - A Bavarian Tale.

This time, we’re going North: The game takes place at the Northern Sea – yes, also linguistically. The entire game is synchronized in Platt, a Northern German language, even more incomprehensible than Bavarian. Fortunately, there will be German subtitles again as well as an English synchronization for all of you who won’t complete their Duolingo lessons until Gamescom.
Gameplay
Within hours, the coastal town of Havstedt transforms from an idyllic vacation spot into the scene of a desperate struggle for innocence. Who is responsible for the murder of Bente Hansen? Where do the mysterious lights on the sea come from? What causes the strange signals being sent through the newly built transatlantic telegraph cable?

Can you uncover the truth behind the sea of lies and reveal the dark secrets of the community without becoming a target yourself?

 • Explore the Open World: Move freely in a 19th-century German North Sea coastal town and search for clues.
 • Engage in Exciting Dialogues: Use the dialogue mechanics to question the villagers, gather intriguing information, and find out who is hiding something.
 • Investigate the Trail: Use your detective sense to uncover hidden clues.
 • Combine the Clues: Link information and insights to solve the case.
 • Initiate a Confrontation: Confront the suspects and expose the culprits.
 • Level Up: Develop your character and decide which skills you want to improve.
 • Pass the Skill Tests: Use your skills in classic pen-and-paper skill checks (dice rolls).
 • Craft Useful Items: Gather resources and craft items and consumables to enhance your skills.
 • Make Difficult Decisions: Your actions affect the course of the story. Decide for yourself how you want to complete the tasks. Through charisma, through diplomacy… but the mission is clear: Solve the case!

See you at Gamescom!
