New tech allows AI to detect toxicity in voice chat, but I think humans might be too smart for it


Toxicity in games is no fun, and in this year of our lord 2020, there seems to be a growing trend of using artificial intelligence to find and deal with toxic players. I don’t just mean in text chat either; the companies Modulate and FaceIt have both created AI that can supposedly detect toxicity in voice chat from the way that someone says something.


Part of me that feels like this is a good idea. Having a way of quickly and easily getting rid of them is great. However, I’ve heard one too many stories about AI learning to be racist, so I do wonder if it’s the best sort of tech to put in video games.

  • Fixed a bug causing ‘Party Up’ to be highlighted on the post-match screen instead of Ready Up (Casual) or Find New Match (Competitive)
  • Players will no longer respawn with a power-up ready to use if they are demolished after a goal is scored
  • Fixed a bug causing some players on Xbox and PlayStation to crash when a splitscreen player is added

Frosty Fest Returns December 14

Get ready to chill during Rocket League's coolest in-game event, Frosty Fest! In case you're new to Rocket League since the free to play launch, this marks the fourth annual arrival of the seasonal event. It's ready to bring good tidings, Challenges, Limited Time Modes (LTM), plus returning items from Frosty Fests of old!

Once the event begins, complete Event Challenges found in the Challenge Menu. Completing Frosty Fest Challenges will unlock seasonal items like the Holiday Bow Topper, Holiday Hearth Wheels, and even the new Xmas Lights Animated Decal! Check out the items in the slideshow below. Golden Gifts will return as Event Challenge rewards as well, which will unlock items from the Accelerator, Elevation, and Triumph Series. There's even a free item waiting in the Item Shop by the name of Mr. Floeberg! Get Rocket League's festive snowman Antenna for free all throughout Frosty Fest, and be on the lookout for additional festive items in the Item Shop!

Get your snow tires ready for three LTMs throughout Frosty Fest, including the new Winter Breakaway! The snow has hit Throwback Stadium for the first time and the puck is ready to drop for this twist on Snow Day mode. Perform one-timer and wraparound goals on this Arena that resembles a hockey rink! Winter Breakaway will be playable December 14 through December 21, and will be followed by Spike Rush on the snowy variant of Throwback Stadium and 2v2 Heatseeker on other snowy Arenas.   • December 14, 9 a.m. PST (5 p.m. UTC): Frosty Fest begins with Winter Breakaway
  • December 21: Spike Rush returns
  • December 28: Heatseeker returns

Tournament player population cap has been significantly increased

Changes and Updates
  • Previewing an item when a Tournament finishes will no longer hide a player’s Tournament Summary
  • The Tournaments card no longer says “Joinable” after the player has signed up
  • “Checking In...” message now has a clear time-out state
Challenges
  • Stage 1 Challenges for Season 2 are now live
  • Players now need to complete 22 or more of 24 Challenges to earn the Season Challenge Reward
Competitive
  • Season 2 Competitive has begun
  • 3v3 Standard: This season’s soft reset will be less aggressive than Season 1
    • Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend Ranks in 3v3 Standard will be slightly easier to reach
  • Rumble: Champion I and higher Ranks will be slightly tougher to reach


NEW CONTENT
New Arena: Neon Fields
  • ‘Neon Fields’ has been added to the Online Playlists rotation, and can also be used in Private Matches and Free Play
  • The new Arena interacts with Rocket League Radio, and Player Anthems for all players in a match
Player Anthems
  • Player Anthems are a new customization option that let you play your favorite music from the Rocket League soundtrack at key moments during a match. Players Anthems play when you:
    • Score a goal
    • Make an Epic Save
    • Earn MVP honors
  • To use a Player Anthem, go to Profile > Choose Player Anthem
  • Under Settings > Audio > Player Anthems, there are three choices:
    • Always On: Plays during matches and in Free Play
    • Matches Only: Only plays during matches
    • Off: Turns off your anthem and anthems from other players
  • Player Anthem volume is controlled by ‘Music - Gameplay’ under Settings > Audio
  • Five Player Anthems are now available to all players from the Rocket League Soundtrack Vol. 1:
    • ‘We Speak Chinese’ by Mike Ault and Abandoned Carnival
    • ‘Love Thru The Night’ (feat. Morgan Perry) by Mike Ault
    • ‘I Can Be’ (feat. Crysta) by Mike Ault

Enhanced Xbox Series X|S Support
  • For players on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, a new “Video Quality” dropdown is now available under Settings > Video. This allows you to play Rocket League with either “Performance” or “Quality” settings as detailed below:
  • Xbox Series X
    • Quality: 4K resolution at 60 FPS with HDR
    • Performance: Game runs at 2688x1512 at 120 FPS with HDR
    • Game UI displays at 4K

Esports Shop

UI
