Why is GRIME II featuring in Scream Fest?

Steam Scream Fest celebrates the spookiest season of the year with discounts, demos, and upcoming releases! In GRIME II, the sequel to 2021's acclaimed action-adventure metroidvania. You are a Formless - an art mimic, absorbing creatures and summoning molds in their shape.

GRIME II explores the act of creation itself, a world shaped by generations of artists, where some works have become twisted, horrific amalgamations.
Launch tendrils made of hands to absorb these creations and summon them in battle as molds in their likeness.

This bizarre world is consumed by art in all its forms from the beautiful to the truly grotesque.

[p]Hey Yarden GRIME director again,[/p][p]After showing you some of the many ways where GRIME II is different from GRIME, it's probably time that- as a parry loving player myself, we talk about that.[/p][p]I assume most of our present fans are into parrying, so rest assured, it's back and far more versatile.[/p][p][/p][p]So, first starters, there is now an attribute (Pliability) that directly increases parry damage.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]AND a skill tree with many new (and familiar) traits to modify parry with.[/p][p][/p][p]You will also be able to freely invest and refund any of the traits whenever you are in a checkpoint.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As with the first game, you can still parry projectiles from the get-go, it would have felt weird to lock it behind a trait.[/p][p]Additionally, you can now parry in the air right from the start as well.[/p][p] [/p][p]But that's not all... as mentioned before, there is a HUGE gameplay variety in the weapons. And some of them can make use of parry as well-[/p][p][/p][p] AND, the same is true for Molds, where some only trigger when used to parry an attack- [/p][p][/p][p]If you're not into parrying, don't worry. You can focus on enhancing your dashes, Mold casting potential, weapon attacks and more. [/p][p]Parrying is just one option out of many.[/p][p][/p][p]This STILL doesn't cover everything there is to GRIME II's combat. But you'll be able to experience some of this for yourself when we finally release our DEMO very, very soon. [p]ME director again, and it's time to quickly touch upon consumables.
In particular, how useless they are, because... well, they're consumed upon use.[/p][p][/p][p]This is frustrating both because it encourages hoarding (guilty as charged of that myself), but it's probably even more frustrating for those that actually use them, only to die anyway and not even reap the benefit of losing all of those items![/p][p]Items that they likely worked hard exploring the map and taking on challenges to gather.[/p][p][/p][p]That fucking sucks.
So instead, we have Item Molds.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Item Molds refresh at checkpoints, and the more of them you find in the world, the greater your overall quantity of them per run will be.[/p][p][/p][p]Which bring me to the 2nd issue with Consumables... that a lot of the time, they're just not very useful.[/p][p][/p][p]This is because in a game that has leveling and all sorts of other progression systems that make you far more powerful the more you play, consumables tend to be balanced around the point where they were introduced into the game.[/p][p]So if you saved a bomb from the start of the game and need it now against a mid-game boss... it will probably be entirely useless.[/p][p][/p][p]So here comes the 2nd aspect of Item Molds, as you find more of them, they'll rank up. Up to 2 additional tiers that will both enhance their damage, as well as potentially introduce a new mechanic.[/p][p][/p][p]Example - Spike Ball Item Mold 1st tier.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]3rd tier - adds another bounce and a damaging explosion when it break.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]One of our main goals was that of variety, and there is a ludicrous amount of that in GRIME II.
