Patch - v1.0.2

Hello Riders,

Here's the first bigger patch addressing some critical issues like disconnects when joining QuickMatch lobbies and the visibility of the "Racing End Timer" - but also a lot more. Take a look:
Fixes
• Critical: Sometimes, Quickmatch lobbies were not closed correctly, leaving them in a broken state. Joining players just got a disconnection error. This should fix many of the “Disconnected” situations when trying to join a Quickmatch.
 • Critical: The “Racing End Timer” is now displayed correctly when players take too long to finish in quickmatch and is now also used in Quickmatch Team Mode.
 • Critical: Fixed black spots appearing around steep sections on Low-quality terrain.
 • Critical: The Render Scaler now takes the display refresh rate into account for achievable FPS.
 • Critical: Team Mode Tutorial videos now work on the Steam Deck.
 • Major: Navigation between colors now works correctly with the shoulder buttons between hair and beards.
 • Major: Fixed a rare case where the UI broke when entering spectator camp at the exact moment a run ended.
 • Major: Parallax snow now works on low-quality terrain (used tessellation before).
 • Minor: Trick Scores were sometimes not displayed correctly.
 • Minor: Shop Items no longer turn white when leaving the screen.
 • Minor: Removed the “No Crashes” Bonus and “Under 7 Minutes” bonuses from the result screen, as they had been removed before release.
Improvements
• Critical: Improved level design for Sierra Gelida Trail 4. The first big jump is now easier, especially on the black slope.
 • Major: Reduced noticeable terrain popping on Low-quality terrain on Steam Deck.
 • Major: Snow Props now properly check for snow deformation
 • Minor: Removed visual jittering for the Team Mode Score Display.
 • Minor: Nicer transition when entering Spectator mode.
 • Minor: Removed multiplier UI from player names in resting spots.
 • Minor: Various smaller performance improvements.
 • Minor: Snow clouds now fade out when they get too close to the camera.
 • Minor: Increased water quality for Steam Deck quality settings.
Changes
• Balancing: Updated values for some challenges.
 • Balancing: Updated EXP and Snowflake distribution for the racing mode. In general, you now get more EXP and Snowflakes, even for lower ranks. This should significantly speed up the progression in multiplayer racing.

Short Behind-The-Scenes Update

Hello Riders,

We wanted to give you a quick behind-the-scenes update. The last week was amazing and we’re all super happy about all the nice comments and reviews.

To this moment an unfathomable number of 336.347 riders visited the Lonely Mountains last week, which is absolutely insane. Unfortunately, it was also insane for our leaderboard servers who currently can’t handle the peak times. We’re working hard to improve it and hope we can get rid of the occasional downtimes in the near future.

We’re also working on a for next week which fixes a whole bunch of things but first and foremost it should make joining quickmatch multiplayer more reliable.

We are also looking into all the other reports - with multiplayer as a top priority. Please continue letting us know about any issues and please send us your log files, it helps a lot.

Thank you all for playing the game and for the incredible week!

Leaderboards are working again!

Hey Riders!

Good news Our cross-platform leaderboards are finally working again!
Please let us know if you have any further issues with the,

Unfortunately, a lot of entries did not get through to the database over the last two days so it might be that you need to do some of your best times again and that there is a difference between your local best time vs. the time/rank shown in the leaderboards. Sorry for that!

Good luck, Godspeed and Happy Speedrunning!

Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders review - cross-country skiing as rewarding for the journey as the destination

Few games place me so betwixt the yin and yang of frustration and flow state as Snow Riders. Here is a compact selection of ski slopes, each one yodeling the promise of my smooth and exhilarating descent over fresh powder. But wait, someone has littered this Ski Sunday with obstacles, forcing me to run a gauntlet of trees, rocks and rivers. I am thrust headlong into each of these obstacles a dozen times before my withered synapses and tired bones internalise these arboreal teachings and I make it safely to the bottom.

As in life, there is joy to be found in this journey precisely because it is hard. Unlike in life, the camera is often facing backwards while you do it.

Steam Deck Compatibility
Hey Riders,
While the game is not yet verified on Steam Deck yet, we wanted to share some insights on what to expect when running the game on the Steam Deck:
Performance
We test the game a lot on the Steam Deck and while it is not always hitting 60FPS with the "Steam Deck" preset in the graphics settings, it should stay way above 40FPS, often above 55FPS.

However we know that some people reported some serious performance issues, going down to 24FPS and lower. We tried to reproduce that and the only way we could manage was setting the Steam Deck resolution to something like 1440p or more. The game unfortunately doesn't handle that well right now and might display a lower resolution while rendering at 2550x1440. One thing you should try if you are affected is manually selecting a resolution, e.g. the native Steam Deck resolution of 1280 × 800, which should work well.
Input
The game is best played with a controller, so it works well out of the box with the Gamepad preset.
Roadmap
We are working on optimizing the game further and will release updates over the next weeks. Right now we are trying to come up with a roadmap we can commit to, but right after release there is so much going on, that we need to get an overview of the reported issues and focus on the most urgent ones (mostly leaderboards and multiplayer related right now).

Please let us know how the game works for you on Steam Deck and if you have any issues! We are very committed to make the game run really well on the device we all love.

Cheers,
