Cerebral Roman war sim Songs of Steel Hispania gets game changing update

A song once asked what war was good for, and apart from things like fighting off aggressors, the thing it's best for is providing a background for strategy gaming. Songs of Steel Hispania uses one particular war for its basis, namely the conflict on the Iberian Peninsula between 153 BC and 133 BC. If you aren't familiar with that series of wars then don't worry; Songs of Steel Hispania will get you up to speed with its combination of historical turn-based strategy and consequence-filled narrative decisions. What's more, with its first big patch, it just got a whole lot better to play.

Songs of Steel: Hispania v1.1 is here!

Hello soldiers! We have listened to the user feedback and have a compendium of quality of life, balance changes, and fixes ready!

  • Reduced experience necessary for units to become Elite with less battles. This is for the game not to be as strict with your core army, and allow for more experimentation with different units.
  • Some of the less popular units have been tweaked slightly to become a bit more viable, without altering their general intent in the game.

  • Support for AZERTY keyboards was added (see the in-game options).
  • Can now check a unit's experience points in Camp/Town and pre-battle screens, without the need to open the unit's level-up window.
  • Made clearer to see when a unit is required before starting a battle.
  • You can now click through the interface decorations on the battle deployment screen (they no longer block your cursor).

  • Fixed Bulwark was not triggering when intended.
  • Fixed A Song of Steel sometimes not triggering after finishing both campaigns.
  • Reduced requirements for Lethal With the Sword, as it was not being reachable through normal gameplay due to the character involved in it not being able to participate in enough battles for it to trigger.

  • Fixed several typos in tutorials and events.
  • Fixed several typos in achievements (mostly in Spanish).
  • Fixed a display error on the "Inventory" button in the pre-battle screen.
  • Fixed Phalanx's Shield Wall skill not working when attacking.
  • Fixed a blocker in the Lutia battle for the Roman campaign which could happen if the first Combat Group was completely filled up with units (Capitulum 10).
  • Added studio logos at game startup

Thank you for your suggestions and help in this journey so far!

Best wishes from the Songs of Steel: Hispania Team, and have a great rest of your week!

Update v1.0.14 now available!

This is our first update to the game since launch. Thank you all for your patience and for your suggestions so far!

Changelog:

Bug fixes
- Fixed an exploit/glitch for infinite resources. This glitch could potentially brick your save file if used when playing the Numantian side.
- Fixed Numantian save files which got bricked due to the infinite resources exploit/glitch.
- Fixed a rare issue that could prevent you from deploying units into battle.
- Fixed Horned Saddle level restriction (was a faulty setting from an earlier balance patch).
- Fixed Ambience volume not being affected by the Master volume setting.
- Fixed the "Impetus" achievement not triggering properly (Syphax).
- Fixed the "Legionary Camp" displaying "Praetorium" as its title.

Quality-of-life improvements
- New Gameplay setting: Invert Camera Zoom (can toggle on or off)
- New Gameplay setting: Invert Camera Panning (can toggle on or off)
- Since a few players have told us that how to pass turn in the early game wasn't clear enough, the "Pass Turn" button now shows the "Pass Turn" text during the first few battles in the game. The tutorial is now a little bit clearer about it, too.
- Since a few players have had trouble deploying units during the "Soldiers in the Snow" battle, we've made it clearer when you are required to use a specific unit type in a specific Battle Group. Previously, the unit would only be greyed-out; now, additionally, it flashes every few seconds when the deployment conditions are not met.

Balance
- Reduced damage requirements for the "Assassin" achievement to trigger.

Misc

- Achievements now trigger if you've completed the corresponding Capitulum in the demo. If you are continuing a saved game from the demo, and would like to have these, all you have to do is complete any later Roman Capitulum in the game.
- Current version now displays on title screen.

Best wishes from the team, have a great rest of your week!
